Photo Download Bug

I seem to be experiencing a bug.

When I search Photos and find the photo that I want, then press the DOWNLOAD button at the bottom of the photo, either nothing happens, or a different photo appears to be downloaded.

I do not have this issue when not using the search option.

Is nothing really happening, or is your browser just rendering the photo again in full-screen?

When you click the Download button, the file is supposed to be sent to your computer as a binary stream. What happens with that stream depends on your browser settings/add-ons. Most browsers will simply render the photo again...to actually download it, you may have to right-click on it.*

...or a different photo appears to be downloaded.
There is a known bug in the sorting algorithm for the Emailed Photos folder. If you sort by anything other than Posted date, the thumbnails will be sorted correctly but the underlying links are not.?

Also, if you are deleting photos, be sure to refresh the thumbnail page between deletions. Things can get out of sync if your browser is caching the thumbnails.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

*There was a time when groups.io forced an actual download...but doing so caused other problems, and the change was subsequently reverted.

Bruce,

Thanks for your response. The browser is Chrome.
  • Bruce wrote: "Is nothing really happening, or is your browser just rendering the photo again in full-screen?"
  • Most of the time, the browser appears to render the photo again.
  • When I right click it, I get no option to save, or save as...funny thing is that on other sites in similar situations, I do get an option to SAVE in similar situations.
  • I tried IE and I get the option to "save target as"
  • I'll check for Chrome setting issues, but it is strange that I download a lot of things in Chrome and never have this issue on any other website.

Bruce,

I have the same issue in IE. When I wrote above, I didn't realize that "save target as" is saving the HTML page, not the photo.?

This bug only happens after I have used the search option to find the photo I want to download.

It happens in Chrome and IE

Bruce, Bill,
This also happens with Firefox as well.? It was first noticed for me on a new list where a subscriber was getting duplicate images after a search in Photos.? Neither one would allow saving or copying an image.
This subscriber came from a list where all photos were attachments, not stored in the Photo albums.? He didn't have a problem searching the Emailed Photos and I won't tell him.

AS a follow-on, when you search the photos albums you not only lose the ability to download the image, but later when instead you go to photo albums, select an album, view the images and select one, the download
feature is still non-functional until you close the browser/reboot.? Instead of getting save or copy functions when trying to download, the only option is to open another window, if you try that, download functions are
still only open another window...

Bruce,

I am assuming that you have recorded this "Photo Search then inability to Download Bug" as a bug to be addressed?

As has been stated many times here, this is a user-to-user group, no one from groups.io management monitors it.? For bugs, you report them to [email protected]

Bruce, Is there any word on when this bug will be taken care of?? ?I can understand that they are probably pretty busy right now with the Yahoo migrations and that it might not get fixed for some time.

Nope. I'll probably need to resubmit it in beta, since all bug reports are going there now.
