Photo Album Sorting

We just moved two groups from Yahoo into one group at .? The move went very well.? Part of the move included 120+ photo albums.? On the Yahoo platform it was possible to sort the albums by "Most Recent".? I do not see a sorting option for the albums at .? Is there one? ? ?Note: before asking this question I Googled, I looked in the Wiki for this group and for groups,io, I joined the beta group, and I have read the list at Trello.? I don't see anything.

Thanks in advance.

Jim,

I do not see a sorting option for the albums at groups.io Is there
one?
Apparently not. I'm a little surprised there isn't any "sort" related items in the Photos to-do list at Trello.

There is a sort button within an album to sort the photos, but as you say, none for the list of albums. This seems like an obvious candidate as a request in beta@.

I think all lists should have sort and filter/search capability, based on whatever data is available about the list items. Ideally this would be something the site could do in a uniform and intuitive fashion. Now we have:

Sort, search box, and filters
Activity logs

column header links (with reversal arrows) plus search box
Admin:Members, Admin:Subgroup memberships, Files

column header links (with reversal arrows) plus search button pop-up
Messages/Topics

column header links (with reversal arrows) without search
Sent Invitations, Drafts, Chats(?), Database

Sort button with drop-list of orderings
Photos (within albums)

Alphabetic (fixed order)
Integrations, Hashtags, Member Directory, Photo albums,
Wiki (pages drop-list)

Date (fixed order)
Calendar (list view), Subgroups (date of latest post)

Arbitrary groupings
Settings

I wouldn't want consistency to go too far and overwhelm clarity or usability, but this feels to me like a bit too much ad-hoc and not enough of that consistency that Mark likes. ;-)

I too agree that being able to sort Albums would be wonderful and is right up at the top of my wish list along with being able to moderate photos. However (and I was even using this on Yahoo, since my people seemed incapable or unwilling to make any effort to help themselves, it had gotten so bad) - and, I too moved a group that had a lot of photo albums (though we did a lot of cleaning house before we packed up and moved :>P ) -

I preface the? current album names with two leading zeros and the year. For example:? 00 2017 Album Name

Then, come year-end/new year, I strip off the zeros, so we can use that in the new year. It really didn't take that long to maintain (the group is over 700 members and photos are a key part of interaction for us). This kept the current year stuff at the top, and then when it changes over there is still a alpha-numeric sort (which is how Groups.io lists them). It's not the best but it works, and is better than nothing.

The sort function (as of now) is at the individual level. ?That's nice - but what we would prefer is to have the ability to rearrange the photos within an album and have that be permanent (until modified again) and available as a tool to the album owner and moderators. Right now, the only "rearrange" option available in Groups.io is to display a certain photo as the cover photo for the album. ?To get photos to rearrange into the order we want them, we have to devise some elaborate titling scheme. ?It would be much simpler to have a click and drag option similar to what you have in Flicker albums and what we had available in Yahoo Groups.

Jim,

the to-do list? Thanks
The request is made by posting on beta@ addressed to Mark; preferably as its own topic with appropriate hashtags. I'd suggest #photos #suggestion

The Trello list is maintained by Mark, only he can add or edit items there.

Jean...
I am seeing the sort options within an album as being by name, posted, or taken.

We've been using the date numbering system for photo folders for many years.

Works really well. With so many activities and members who participate in our embroidery challenges, it's handy to have them put photos of their projects into a collective folder for each project named with year.month.date - project name. All these project folders automatically sort by date with the oldest first. Adding 00 to the front of any folder brings it to the top of the list. We do this for all current projects. And it's really handy to have project folders that are named with a date. If you are looking through the messages and find a project that interests you, just look for the photo folder from around that time period for samples of the project.

Members can also create folders titled with their names and these automatically sort after the dated project folders and are ordered alphabetically. Thus, there is no need for us to have sorting features unless it would be to add one for most recent activity. Our members have never had any problems with this system and are quite capable and willing to share their photos with the group.?

Scrolling through the photos is so quick here in Groups io - love it!?

It was just brought to my attention by one of my members that she can¡¯t SAVE her sort. So she sorts then numbers 1, 2, 3 to order her pictures and when she comes back later they have gone back and out of order.

i see this request I¡¯m using to answer is a year old. Any update... progress on sorting and moderating?
