I GOOFED! Changed email address and my moderator status disappeared
Dina Moskowitz
I recently created a group called DanielPinner. Of course, since I created it, I was automatically the owner and moderator of the group. I set about inviting members to the group and rec'd 7 positive replies from people who joined.
I wanted to change my email address to something else, but that's when my problems started. My "moderator" status seems to have disappeared, and suddenly now I'm just a member! I no longer see the section for moderators on the left side.... So I don't have access anymore to the list of people I invited/messages that bounced/people who accepted my invitation. How do I get the original account I made, back, and as moderator? Thanks for any help you can give me, as I am totally confused! Dina Mod's note: Enhanced the subject line |

Or maybe you're not logged in at all? See?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Group-Content-Is-Missing?and come back with any further questions. Good luck, Bruce |

How do I get the original account I made, back, and as moderator?Dina; firstly what Bruce has stated could well be true. However... when you say you changed your email address, what exactly did you do? Your email address is the bit of information that defines your Account with Groups.io, and it is used for all groups held within that account.? Do you have other memberships of Groups.io with the same (new) address and are they working correctly? When you say you changed your address was it done by editing your Account? Did you set up another member as a co - owner and / or a moderator? If so what can they see on the web UI? I am wondering if the role of owner or moderator is allied to specific email addresses and that if the owner of the email changes that address then the role vanishes with it. It might be that changing your email back again makes things come good but having said that I'd hang fire until others who might know more have had the chance to comment. On a wider point I cannot help but recall other GMF members reporting that they had lost ownership of their groups and your report gives rise to the possibility that an owner changing their email address might sacrifice ownership (or the role of moderator) as a result.? If that turned out to be the case then it would have to be seen as a Bug of rather significant proportions rather than a deliberate feature. Chris |

You are probably logged in using the wrong email addressDina; in the absence of others commenting it is definitely worth putting Bruce's point to the test. Go to the Groups.io web UI, and if you find yourself still logged in, then log out. Now log in again with your original email address. Assuming that this allows you to log in see if your group looks as it ought to now. Then log out again and attempt to log in using your new email address. If the log in works go and see if your group is present but without your having Owner rights. If you have not set up passwords you will have to rely on Groups.io sending you a log - in link by email so you must be able to receive emails on both of your addresses in turn. Please report back with what you find. Chris |
