Culling messages before import

Hi again,

I'm looking at the messages in our Yahoo groups that we'll need to either transfer over here or else lose the archives. Many of them don't need to be saved. If I download them in Mbox format, my understanding is that I can open them with Thunderbird (my usual email client) and delete out the cruft and then re-export.

Can I then upload the resulting Mbox file into my group here at Groups.io rather than do a complete transfer? Or is that something that only [email protected] can do? And is there a fee for that?

Thanks,
Su

Su -- There is no mechanism within the web interface that would permit someone to upload/merge messages into an existing group message archive. Rumor has it that support has done this for others, using a file in Unix mbox format...but there has been no verifiable report of it happening for at least two years.?

Frankly, it seems unlikely that he would allow this kind of "back door" to the transfer process so that people can avoid paying the fee, but you never know. I suggest you contact support directly and report back here on what kind of response you get so we can share it with others.?

Good luck,
Bruce

I have sent them a message and will report back if / when they get back to me.
Thanks,
Su

They got back to me, but unfortunately it's only a form reply due to high volume. Mark is actually directing people here to GMF.

Hello,

Due to the high volume of support requests right now (aka we're a bit overwhelmed!), we're unfortunately unable to provide a specific answer to your question.

Our help is at /static/help and may be able to answer your questions. I also suggest subscribing to the GroupManagersForum and asking the good folks there. They have a lot of experience and should be able to answer any questions you may have.

Cheers,
