Renaming a group seems to not work...

I am the owner of the group winrad-sdr. I wanted to rename it as HDSDR.
I, as administrator, changed to Title of the group to HDSR, and this was accepted.
Then I tried to change the email address of the group to hdsdr (@groups.io) but this was refused, saying that that group does not exist...
And, as a matter of facts, doing a search I am able to find a group with the old name of winrad-sdr, but not one with the name HDSDR.

Am I doing something wrong ? ?Please help, thanks.

Have you looked at /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Renaming-a-Group?? It sounds like there may be a glitch.? If so, you'd need to report it to [email protected]

Wait a few hours for nameserver entries to be updated.

Yes, I followed what is written there... but the changing of the email address seems to not work...

Alberto,

Then I tried to change the email address of the group to hdsdr
(@groups.io) but this was refused, saying that that group does not
exist...
Did you leave out any details in that description?

If you changed the name in the Group Email Address box, just below the Title box, and then scrolled down and clicked the Update Group button that should be all that's required. The only likely error at that point is if the name is already in use by another group (or was in use by a group that has now been deleted).

Is that when you saw the "does not exist" error? Or did you get that error when trying to do something else?

Also, relating to Bruce's comment about waiting for nameserver entries to update, does your group have any subgroups? If so there are two boxes for the Group Email Address, one to the left of the @ (which does not involve any nameserver updates) and one to the right of the @ (which does). From what you said I would infer that your group has no subgroups, is that correct?

Now we are at something... ?in the past I had accidentally created a group with the name ?hdsdr, but then I deleted it. This was a few months ago. I had hoped that after a grace period the name would be reusable again... that group was deleted and it does not exist anymore. Is there at this point any way to assign the address ?[email protected]? to my group ?winrad-sdr ?whose Title has been already changed to HDSDR ?

Or when a name has been used in the past, but the group was deleted, then it is anyway locked forever ? ?

Thanks

Alberto

Alberto,

As far as I know there is no timeout for used names, you have to make a request to [email protected] to have the name unlocked.
