Any way to prevent that?Currently, you can only prevent it by having folks not do it.? Most people don't pay that much attention, so it's not usually very effective though.? This has been discussed several times on the beta group (official suggestion box for the site).? There may be some sort of solution in the works, but no announcements yet. ¿ªÔÆÌåÓýDuane, You say members should not do it. Not do what? What are they doing incorrectly? They are just replying to a message where the original message had images. Mick On 19 Jul 2019, at 8:37 PM, Duane <txpigeon@...> wrote:

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýWhen a member replies to a message without stripping out the image first before sending, there will be a duplicate image in the Emailed Photos album. This can happen many times. To keep storage of emailed photos under control, all duplicates images need to be deleted in the album. Important to note is the ¡®first¡¯ images in the album are the ones to keep, and every duplicate after wards are the images to delete. I refresh the browser each time I delete a duplicate image, to make sure I¡¯m not seeing an artifact of the duplicate. If the first image is deleted in Emailed Photos, there will be no image in the web post. Ask me how I know this. ? Don |

How do you remove the image when replying to posted message that has an image? There is no link to do it. Groups.io has no way to determine whether something attached to any incoming message is accidental or intentional (even a duplicate can be intentional).?Thus subscribers must actively remove unwanted attachments from their replies using their email client before sending. Most mail clients have settings that accomplish this, either to automatically strip attachments from replies or to not quote the original message at all. On a desktop, usually you can remove images from replies by simply highlighting them and hitting the Delete key. To provide further guidance we will need to know what client you are using. ? What specific device are you relying on -? a laptop? mobile? etc? Typically an email program will copy the old email to the body of your reply,? Scroll down, look if the pix is there highlight it w/ your mouse or tap to put your cursor to the right or underneath it and hit delete or a backspace to delete it (depending on the device).? Sometimes the app will quote only certain text if you highlight, say, one word or one line, and not the entire old message/pix. When I reply, my device (sometimes?) removes the pix and simply inserts the filename.ext of the image.? Each client, OS, platform, has its own mind as to "deciding" what the user "needs/wants" and we oftentimes have no say in the matter. |
Does it some update about to solve above problem?
I am moderator on?/g/listeATV Emailed photos may have x 2, 3, 4... and for one at least 130 the same picture. Total actual size is 755 = 351 MB I may understand that might be complex to cure... Sometimes when a reply is made to messages containing photos the photos are copied to the "Photos" section for a second time.If you moderate messages with attachments you can edit them out before releasing the message to the group and storing a second copy of the image in emailed photos. This is what we do in our group and we also include a moderator note to say that a reposted image has been removed. Andy |
Andy,
Thank you for your answer (I had made an answer near after yours? but may be not send and PC restarted...= lost) Unfortunatly it is impossible because messages are not moderated but it was a relatively simple thing. (except to have to? do). May be that a system like the merge is possible. In automatic could be possible also by checking name, file type and size. Alain France |

When I see duplicate photos that are simply quoted with no reason to have the dupe, I'll occasionally into the folder and delete them, which saves storage space.? Warning the members to please not quote/resend attachments doesn't seem to help with some of them.? So more drastic measures are necessary. -ken |
Alain,
May be that a system like the merge is possible.Probably not name, as I think that may be altered in replies. Possibly type as well. But certainly size as a quick check and hash to be sure. It has been suggested some time ago, but it hasn't been implemented yet: Those topics are now moderated, but feel free to reply to them with your own support for the concept. Or maybe it is better to start a new #suggestion since those are so old. If you do, you could cite those (and almost certainly other) prior topics about the needless duplication of emailed photos & images.
