Still trying to adapt to the new group settings.

Hello again,

We would like to send out messages to all members once a week and once a month as we did on the old Yahoo site. I have been through the instructions in the Help area but am still baffled.?

I go to Admin - Settings - Member notices - Add notice. From the dropdown Notice Type menu the only possible notice heading is : Note to Member. But we want to send the notice to all memberS. So I filled out all the relevant headings and the message and added the notice but there is no indication or place to add a date/dates for the messages to be sent out. I'm in a quandary as to what to do.

Please can someone help me again?

Many thanks,

Best wishes,

Barbara

The only notice type that can be automatically sent is Group Guidelines.? For anything else, I use the Calendar and create a repeating event for the necessary interval.? It won't be sent to those on No Email, but does go to the group as a message/posting.

Thank you, Duane. So, I presume I have to do that for every week and every month. I'll have a go but it's a shame it can't be done in a recurring way.

No, not at all..? You can have repeating calendar events and they are very flexible.? All of our regular announcements, weekly , bi-weekly and monthly are set up in the calendar and I haven't had to service them for well over a year.? In fact, some are 2 or more years old.?

For unique events I often set up notifications with intervals that decrease as we get closer to the actual event.

You would only need to set up one event for the weekly item, then have it repeat every week forever.? Another event for the monthly item, then repeat monthly forever.? If need be, you can make changes to an event and have the site make that change for all events.

Thank you again.

I did this and set up the calendar for 1st of each month and every Sunday - different messages - but now both messages came straight after to the group so everyone will be really confused. I presume this is just to tell members about the forthcoming arrangements. I can explain that. For future reference, is there anything I should do to prevent this happening with future messages? Also can I get rid of that 'link' at the bottom of the message : A question mark on a piece of paper with a note - invite.ics? It is unnecessary that anyone would need to add this 'event' to a calendar.?

Barbara,

When creating the event, uncheck Send Invite To Group.

Also, if you didn't, check Send Notice To Group When Event Happens rather than adding any reminders. That way it is posted at the date/time you chose for the event rather than in advance.

Excellent, Shal. Hopefully I have corrected that. Does that mean that the 'invite.ics' won't appear either?

Barbara,

I believe so.

I think the .ics file is attached only to the invitation, if you send one, not to reminders or to the event notice.
