Creating text files without uploading

The first thing on my wish list is to be able to write txt files for the files portion of groups.io.? One of my members was going to add links to various websites for future reference and the only way they could be added is if you upload them from a file.? It would be so much easier to just create a text document and go.? I¡¯m not going to compare my wish to yahoo, yahoo is what drove me here and I don¡¯t want to repeat the same mistake twice.

Sure, but that would not be enough to match even what Yahoo provides now. Every member should be able to see all posts by other members. Already, members are complaining that they can't find this, as they could in Yahoo. This is now #1 on my wishlist. I see it as a gaping and obvious hole in the system. Hopefully Mark will do something about it soon.

You are not alone. :-) But Groups.io needs to provide at least all of the beneficial features that Yahoo did.

Judy,

One of my members was going to add links to various websites for
future reference and the only way they could be added is if you
upload them from a file. It would be so much easier to just create a
text document and go.
The Wiki feature gives you that ease. But I see Mark already suggested that (beta@#6961).

One writes a page using the same editing tool (with formatting buttons) as is used for creating a message (New Topic or Reply). The main difference is that the Wiki pages don't come with any folders or other hierarchy. The default is just a list of the existing pages, but you can create a home page for the Wiki that organizes the other pages any way that you see fit. See GMF's Wiki for an example of a handmade Wiki home page.

The first thing on my wish list is to be able to write txt files for
the files portion of groups.io.
Hmm... The Trello page has an empty list under "Files". Perhaps you should ask again in your thread, or this earlier one:

Many of us use the Wiki for this purpose. If you don't need the specific content to be in the Files section, just use a Wiki page instead.?

My group is a bunch of old ladies (50 and older). They're not going to use a wiki to find files. To them, files should be in the files, not in the wiki. I'm not trying to be difficult, I just know my ladies.

Just tell them 'wiki' means 'file' in the groups.io 'dialect.' It's exactly the same thing.
