Direct Add before Easy Transfer
#transfer
#addmembers
Since it appears that Y! death throes have the Easy Transfer queue taking additional time, would there be any downside if I were to jump-start our new community group by using Direct Add?? I want to be sure that the additional content from the failing Ygroup is eventually carried forward.? It looks like I can re-format the Ygroup member export list easily enough to the email / message delivery format that Direct Add looks for.? However, I'm happy to wait if doing this would complicate the rest of the Easy Transfer process in any way.?

John,
... would there be any downside if I were to jump-start our new community group by using Direct Add? The only real downside is that
when the transfer is eventually done the email addresses already present in your group (those you added) won't get copied. Meaning that their original Y!Group join date, delivery settings, and Posting Privileges won't get copied. ShalThey might, or might not, be annoyed to have to go set themselves to Digest again (or whatever); you might, or might not, be annoyed at having to put them back on moderation again (or whatever). You'll have to judge that for your own group. -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |

If I'm reading the Direct Add directions right, Y!Group 'delivery' setting can be added with Direct Add by having one of the three designations ( digest, summary, or nomail ) at the end of the line after email address.? Since Y! exports that information with the member list export, that shouldn't be a problem, though I'll have to edit the text in the export to one of the three designations expected here; and blank out 'individual emails', since that seems to be the default.? My main concern is that other content - mainly files, photos and old messages - be available here after the conversion. I'm not sure many people consider 'join date' significant, and few have non-default 'posting privileges', which it looks like I can manually set.? ? |

Duane,
If people join here before a transfer, I don't think the files and photos will be connected to them once those are done.? That's not a problem. Unless they joined under a different email address than they had in the Y!group. ? If the owner isn't 'found', they get attributed to the group owner. That's what happens when the email address associated with that content isn't present in the Groups.io group at the time that content transferred over. Subscribing ahead of the transfer isn't a problem. Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |
