Privacy security on groups.io platform
Tony Ngai
Dear all senior Group managers :
?
As I mentioned , I am a new comer ( [email protected]) n doing beta trial at this moment , hope all donot mind I asking about current privacy protection of platform as well as liability to us in role of chief administrator as well as respective “owner” of the group ! This is in referring to the incident of “face book” event though I am nothing close in size or scale to “face book” but liability remains , so to speak !
?
Pls share !
Many tks?

Hi Tony, I'm not sure what you mean by "Privacy" in the groups. Anything on the internet is subject to hacking. I don't think that it is any greater than having a member who harvests emails or group information. I'm not sure if this is the place to ask about this since we are a group of Group Owners and not the creator or owner of Groups.io. Perhaps Shal or one of the more knowledgeable members will have some input. Good Luck with your Group, Paul, Ohio, USA

If you go to / there is a statement that there is no tracking or ads. I'm not sure if this is the place to ask about this since we are a group of Group Owners and not the creator or owner of Groups.io. about current privacy protection of groups.ioWhat specifically, do you mean by "privacy protection"? As list-owner, you can restrict the membership list to owners and moderators. OTOH, email addresses within message bodies are not redactable. platform as well as liability to us in role of chief administrator as well as respective “owner” of the groupSpecific liability depends primarily upon where the group owner has their jurisdictional domain. In the US, for all practical purposes, anything goes, because despite having more laws that allegedly protect privacy than any other country on the planet, enforcement is, at best, nominal. In the Philippines, despite having the strictest privacy protection laws currently in force, enforcement is based on "not a friend of the state" status. In Europe, after 25 May 2018, the GDPR will go into effect. This will be the strictest, consistently enforced privacy law in the world. In both PRC, and Russia, enforcement of privacy legislation is based upon "not a friend of the state" status. Secondarily, liability depends upon rules, ethics, and codes of conduct within the field of endeavor. These are enforced by individual organizations, not governments. Tertiarily, liability depends upon codes of conduct and rules of ethics of the individual/organization that is the owner of the group. These would be enforced by the specific organization/individual. This is in referring to the incident of “face book” eventFacebook has always played fast and loose with what it does with the data it compiles on people. The only thing that is new, is that _Cambridge Analytics_ got caught violating ethical guidelines for experiments on human subjects. jonathon |
