@Bruce

I'm dumb about the intricacies re email handling. How would alerting users about phishing result in more spam?

All other databases are downloadable except this one.
I cant copy and paste the msg so I hope this makes sense -- on the title (Name) of the file it says Sending.download
In the 'kind' column it say Safari download

All of our other databases download with no problems at all.
Why would this one be different???

I'm using an Apple Mac desktop running macOS Monterey version 12.7.5

Hoping someone has a solution for me

Thanks Duane. I thought as much. So, we'll just let 'em waste their time
posting
stuff that'll never show up in the group messages. If there is any downside to
all
those non-member posts is that they clutter up the Adtivity list. Arrgh!

Otherwise it just seems like a huge waste of time on those spammers' parts . . .

Not necessary a waste of time on a spammer's part. Some (many) spammers make their money by selling lists of so-called "verified" email addresses. So they will have already made their money before their "customers" have even sent out their first email blast.

Unfortunately she has the same problem opening g.io via the internet :(
Can you see her attempt to log in in Activity?
What does her account show??
See /helpcenter/ownersmanual/1/reviewing-the-group-s-activity-log?single=true
Is she still a member??

These seem to hit in batches, once or twice a month.? I wouldn't be concerned.? Especially if your group is restricted so that not just anyone can join.? Even an unlisted group can get hit.

Thanks for the heads up.? Checked just now and we are getting several? non-member spam postings.? These postings began appearing in early May of this year.

What to do about this spam infestation?? My guess is nothing.? It's invisible to the members.

Re: Problem with screen/messages losing/missing data #askmembers

Thank you Frances.

I will suggest that she tries accessing G.io via the internet rather than the app and see if that works for her.

I will also pass on your comments and report to the beta group link you shared as well.

Re: Beware Phishing attempts - anyone getting these? #spam #owner

The GMF +owner address gets a phishing email about once a week (got another one today). There's not much that can be done about it, and they are best ignored.

I appreciate everyone's good intentions, but at some point forwarding spam just means we all get more spam.

Bruce

No-one else in my group has reported anything similar so I'm presuming it's a problem with her account not her devices so to speak.
Your member is using the app on an iPhone SE. I looked in the Apple App Store and I don't see a recent major update listed. There have been minor bug or security updates.?

Since your user prefers the app, why don't you or your user consider posting a question on the Apps subgroup of Beta??

However, perhaps someone here can help. I have the app but don't use it. I do use the web version on my iPhone on occasion though.

Problem with screen/messages losing/missing data #askmembers

Hi Everyone,

One of my group members is having the following problem since the Upgrade of groups.io. Does this happen or has this happened to anyone else??

"Morning Pam I¡¯ve uninstalled groups.io, done a hard reset on my phone & then reinstalled the app but still have the same problem. As I scroll down the page it seems to jump, the screen goes white & I¡¯m sent back to the top of the page & data is missing. It misses chunks or comes in part way through a conversation.
It¡¯s an iPhone SE.
What I don¡¯t understand is that it¡¯s exactly the same on the PC which accesses Groups through the web??

No-one else in my group has reported anything similar so I'm presuming it's a problem with her account not her devices so to speak.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks in advance,
Pam

Re: Groups Guidlines entry button?

Thanks so much Francis. This is very helpful.
Yes, a guidelines notice would mean a more readable home page.
Joe

PS: The page in the link you sent has instructions a bit different than what I found at /helpcenter/ownersmanual/1/managing-member-notices/group-guidelines-notice

Re: Groups Guidlines entry button?

It seems from my visit to your homepage you have all the guidelines in your group description!
A guideline notice would be very useful to have a more user-friendly homepage.?
Here's how:
See /helpcenter/gettingstarted/1/step-5-create-a-group-guidelines-notice

If you want would-be members to be able to read your guidelines, be sure to leave this unticked:
Private Guidelines are only viewable by members.

First you have to create a Notice of type Group Guidelines, then it will automatically be added to the left menu.

Is there a help file or guidelines on Groups.io for smartphone users?
Don -- Not officially. It could be that someone here in GMF has crafted one, though, and can share it with you (and others).

As a group owner I do not use a smartphone, but many of my members do. I would like to direct these members to information dealing with the use of smartphone on Groups.io.
Except for the menu system, it's really not that different.

If you want to see what a phone user sees, click the "Restore Down" icon at top right (so you're no longer in full-screen mode) and narrow the browser window until the left-side menu disappears. A few heavily-used menu items now float at the bottom (not sure why "chat" is one of them). You can still access the remainder by tapping on the Menu "hamburger"...at that point the full menu will fly in from the left.?

In theory, the actual phone app is supposed to behave the same as this narrow browser window, but I wouldn't be too surprised if there were some exceptions.

Hope this helps,
Bruce
