Or is it the sort of Draft that can be found by clicking on the Pending tab; seems more likely IMHO.

If that is the case, what is your group moderation setting (Settings > Spam Control > Message Moderation) and what is the Posting Privilege assigned to the individual member (moderator) in question?

People are asking me to remove them from my group....but they are not members!

I¡¯m having an odd problem. Every morning for the past six days I get an email addressed to me as group owner, saying something like this: ¡°REMOVE me from your group! I don¡¯t know why you are sending me these emails!¡± I look in the membership list, but their email address isn¡¯t there. So I write back to each one ¨C it¡¯s always someone with an AOL.com email address ¨C and explain that their email address is not signed up to get our messages, and ask them to forward to me any messages they¡¯ve received from my group, so I can see the email address of the actual subscriber.

?

Only one of the six responded by forwarding a message, which showed a different AOL.com email address as the intended recipient. I looked up that email address in our membership records. There appeared to be nothing out of the ordinary in that member¡¯s subscription. No bounces, and the last message sent out to the group was shown to have been received without problem. So ?I wrote to that member and asked whether they were receiving the group¡¯s messages normally (they¡¯re subscribed to single messages) and let them know that a non-member had received at least one of their emails. I¡¯d like to find out whether the non-member received a duplicate or whether the actual subscriber is missing any emails. That list member has not written back.

?

Meanwhile, of the other five people who wrote to me to ask me to remove them from the group, three have not responded at all, and two got back to me to say they would forward a message from the group to me ¨C but so far they haven¡¯t done it.

?

Does anyone have any clue what¡¯s going on? Is this a glitch in the Groups.io system, or is it an AOL anomaly ¨C or some combination of both?

?

And is anyone else experiencing this problem?

?

I should add, my group has over 15,232 members, and it¡¯s time-consuming to have to deal with this problem. I would like to get to the bottom of it, so I'm not dealing with this every morning.

Re: Automated welcome message to subscribers of a new subgroup?

Yes, it does. And you can edit it to say whatever you want it to. For more about member notices you can look at this part of the GIO Owners Manual:?/helpcenter/ownersmanual/1/managing-member-notices?

Re: Automated welcome message to subscribers of a new subgroup?

Hi Pete;

I go to "admin > settings > member notices" as you instructed and what I see is, under the name "Welcome Message" and to the right a blue button that says Active.

Does that mean that the message is going out when someone new signs up, if not how do I make that happen?

Yo tengo problemas para a?adir a m¨¢s miembros a mi grupo. I am the owner of a group and I have a member that is a moderator that cannot seem to Post messages. The post goes to Draft.
Does anyone know how to correct this?

Re: Posting an Owner message to the group

Duane,

Using /search?p=SubsCount,,,20,2,10000,0? Anything that keeps it from going over 10k works fine.

Thinking more about this and just realized it, by using the value in that wrong place (specifically) you inadvertently found a bug; the "display" code uses the absolute total number of groups (~32K) as the value for calculating how many result pages with link info to display, but the "fetch data" code returns less because it checks for group visibility; there are 9980 visible groups, the rest are not visible, hence when attempting to go past that number, you'll get no results, regardless of how many rows per page one might select.? That's why when I tried to go to page two after the first 10K displayed didn't work and also returned nothing.

This works:
/search?p=ThreadsCount,,,20,2,9980,0

This doesn't:
/search?p=ThreadsCount,,,20,2,9981,0
(or at least it didn't at the time I wrote this, the 9980 visible group total may increment a few by the time this posts, or later, so it may now work, but increasing it by some amount will cause it again)

So technically, just by using the default 20 rows per page, one will reach the time when no results are presented anymore even if the pagination shows a ton of pages to go.? If the "display" code switches to using the visible groups total for pagination calculation it would fix this.

Cheers,
Christos

In theory, either should work.? The way I did it shows 20 per page, but starts at 10000.? Your way shows 10000 per page, starting at 0.

That's not a true count of the number of groups since it's only those made visible in the directory.? From a little sleuthing, I know there were over 77k groups as of September 15.

I must only subscribe to the busy groups.? I'm a member of 6 with over 1k members, of which half are over 2k.? That still leaves the 12 with far fewer though. ;>)

You have the wrong parameter set to 10000; it should read SubsCount,,,10000,2,0,0? (instead of modifying parameter 4, "How many rows to display per page.", you modified parameter 6 "Where to start displaying from within the list.")?

Just tried the above and it works, eventually.? But what doesn't work is going to the next page in that URL configuration, or, like in your case, telling it to start directly at a high number; something is not working right when the number gets that large, but you're right, I wouldn't have a need either for this hack in the group search area, but in the member admin area it works great. Using a reasonable value in relation to the group size that returns 2 maybe 3 result pages makes certain member admin tasks a lot faster and easier; I use the full value only when I have to display the full member list at once, which is not often really.

Interesting BTW, almost 32K groups on GIO, but only 2-3K of them are over 1K members.

Cheers,
Christos

Lee -- Each person with an account in groups.io can optionally choose to set a user name in their account profile at?/account?page=profile&member_info_id=0?.? Unlike Display Name, this is a system-wide identifier for that person, and must be unique.

All user profiles are "owned" by the user, and there's nothing you as a group Owner can do to address this missing information.?

Is it a problem?? How do I fix it?? It shows that line for all members, including me, the owner.
User name provides an alternate identifier if this person's subscription has no Display Name. It serves no other purpose, and no?problems will arise if it remains unpopulated.

Automated welcome message to subscribers of a new subgroup?

Hi! I've just created a new subgroup, and I'm wondering if any of you send automated welcome messages to new subscribers of subgroups. If so, how would I set up an automated welcome message?

Thank you!

It depends on their email provider, but each person will need to make a change.? On their account preferences page, /account?page=prefs, at the bottom they can try selecting "I always want copies of my own emails", then click the Update Preferences button below.? That may not be the problem, but it shouldn't hurt to turn it on.
