Shal,

If someone is on a number of very busy lists, this would seem to make
bouncing more likely due to the amount of traffic going to one account. At
least I think that's the issue for many of us Spectrum/Charter users. But
the message logged shows an explanation that clearly say the issue is
Groups.io is sending or connecting too many times and needs to throttle
back. It would serve as a clue that would impact many members as I guess the
threshold is for all of Groups.io mail servers talking to the
Spectrum/Charter mail servers. I hope the solution they are working on is
taking that into account.

Setting a number of members to bouncing is only a temporary and poor fix as
that reduces the continuing traffic from GIO to Spectrum/Charter.

Hi,

Based on a message sent by a moderator of a group I manage: members must take the initiative to unbounce themselves. When they receive bounce probes, they will get a link to unbounce their address, and that must be communicated when sending a message to affected members directly. It could pose an issue if folks do not use the web interface, but that¡¯s not yet tested.

The digest this morning is paced with email service providers TRIPPING.

Just out of a strange coincidence today makes the END of Yahoo Groups for good.?

With that stated, in the past 3-days I've blanketed our old 4 groups over there with messages to join up here at GIO.

I've been very surprised to see a significant jump in membership once again.

When all this TRIPPING gets sorted out, I'm hoping for a few late comers to join GIO as well.

Hi all? - i have had a request that that when a member hits reply it replies directly to the individual sender of the group email not to the group as a whole. As an example - sent to group, i'm selling shoes, and the replies go to the whole group as opposed to just the shoe seller. How can I change the default settings so that my responding emailer hits reply and it goes to just the original poster and not the group.?

It was not the gmail problem from yesterday as the list of my accounts
bouncing went back to messages from the time of the transfer in.
There definitely was an event yesterday afternoon, 2 to 4 pm Pacific (22:00 to 24:00 UTC) which put a couple hundred GMF members who use Gmail, myself included, into Bouncing status. Gmail was reporting that those addresses did not exist.

Mark reported in beta that the issue was not only site-wide, but was affecting many other email services as well.


I haven't posted messages to some of those in months niow and yet they
were on the bounced list.
You posting isn't the trigger. The trigger for the Bouncing status is whether Groups.io (any group) tried to send a message /to/ you.

It stands to reason that the more active a group was during that period, the more likely that group would be the one cited as causing your email address to go to Bouncing status.

Both ntlworld.com and blueyonder.co.uk are owned by Virgin Media.? You may have to contact them to see what's going on.? It appears that they may not allow outside email, but only they know for sure.

The folks that want to be members can use the +subscribe address to apply.? You could also upgrade to Premium for a month to Direct Add them to the group.

Hi,

Is there a known problem affecting invitations to some email providers (ntlworld.comn and blueyonder.co,uk)?

I am new to io and also to being the secretary of our group (Clyde & Argyll Fungus Group). My first task was to transfer the mailing list from yahoo before today. Most of the invitations were delivered, but there has been a repeated failure to deliver to members of our group with these two email providers. The error message says?'Failed - 421 4.2.0 MXIN611 From header check failed ;id='. (then id information).

How can I add these members, who have sent me personal emails to confirm they wish to be on our list?

I got that same message and noticed all the bounces were ones with ? Yesterday morning, there was widespread outage affecting Google's Youtube, gmail and other services. Noticed those whose email addresses are not gmail (comcast, aol, etc) were not affected.

There have been requests on the beta group for similar functions, but nothing has been implemented.? If you uncheck the "Allow Nonmembers to Post" setting, these messages won't go into the pending queue.? You'd need to decide which is more important.

Would it be possible to add message subject line regular-expression filters to kill obvious spam, rather than put it into the moderation queue?

Over the past few months, I have been deleting a dozen message a day which have subject lines like "MWC Barcelona 2020-21 Attendees list."

Yahoo is much lower than the past but at some point messages will be in
transit from somewhere that doesn't exist ...
Those will be delivered normally, I think. I doubt Yahoo would break any SMTP transactions in process, but even if they did all it means is that the message "in transit" won't be received. As if never sent.

Those will bounce back to sender. But in Yahoo Groups' case (as here) all the senders should be humans attempting to post messages. The rate that has been happening of late seems rather low, and while the people sending might do a few "try again" just to be sure, I think they'll quickly figure out that it doesn't work.

Same here, just got up (UK), surprised to see that I didn¡®t get any io group mail since more or less my midnight and found out that I was bouncing with my gmail account.
