Re: Your Groups.io Account Is Bouncing

All the same groups that were listed on the Bounce messages({first one and second one) are on that link to "My Groups".
Some of them are totally inactive.

Sarah,

Is there some way I can unbounce everyone?
You should no longer need to.

Gmail reports it has fixed its problem, and Mark went through and unbounced all the Gmail addresses.

Clearing the bouncing status at groups.io will not help if GMail still isn't accepting messages. If anyone posts another message to a group you're subscribed to, groups.io will get the same error back from GMail, and voila -- you're bouncing all over again.

Again, the same. In between I did not use any of those accounts for anything.
Your GMail account was not accepting group messages. Whether you did or didn't do something with your groups.io account has no effect on that.

This GMail problem was finally fixed about an hour ago ().

Groups is screwed up or getting hacked.

Hello,

Recently, emails sent to you have bounced back to us. This can be for many reasons, including:

- We have an incorrect email address for you.
- Your account was or is full.
- Other temporary delivery issues.

To view the error messages we receive from your email server, click here.

We have suspended email delivery to you. This means you will no longer receive messages from the groups you are subscribed to, including:

You must take action to restore your account. To unbounce your account, go to the following link:

Re: Bouncing

Donna,

Why did I get a bounce message that listed a long list of groups I was
bouncing on (including my own)?
What Ken said: Bouncing status applies to your email address across all of your group subscriptions.

The issue is first that only half of them are groups I belong to. The
rest are groups I no longer belong to or have NEVER belonged to ...
That shouldn't be the case. Could these be groups where you've set No Mail, but are still a member (and have forgotten)?

and secondly I've been receiving messages from the groups I belong to
all day without noticing any interruption.
That I can't answer. I missed a bunch of today's traffic in GMF because my Gmail address was continuously bouncing them. Each unbounce I did was promptly followed by bouncing the next message.

Is it possible you're using two or more email addresses for group subscriptions, and not all of them are Gmail? The footer of each message will tell you the address it was sent to (next to the Unsubscribe link).

But THAT was the problem. Half the groups it listed me as belonging to are NOT groups I belong to or ever have.? I checked the error message my server sent and the bounce was triggered by a single message from a group I DO belong to which stated it had tried to reach an address that didn't exist. There was no threshold of multtiple bounces that was exceeded.
?
Fortunately, it appears to have been part of the general issue with Google that happened today. Messages received by GMail from the groups were bounced back as "no such address".

Donna,

When GIO detects a bounce, it stops sending to that address for all the
groups that the address is signed up for. The trigger condition may be all
from one group or it may be a series of messages from a number of groups
that put you over the threshold. It turns you off in all groups at once.
Just like 'unbouncing' puts you on for all of your groups at once. If you
happen to be in a number of very active groups, you have a higher chance of
tripping the bounce threshold.

Ahhh ...so THAT explains the weird bounce message I just got about an hour ago. The strangest part of it was? it listed multiple groups I'm not even a member of.?List members/ owners?come from all over the world. In the small number of lists I belong to, one is based in France and another in Brazil with members scattered across the globe.. The majority of my members seem to be in Canada. The problem was pretty much worldwide but seems to be resolving itself slowly but surely.

Re: IP for groups.io for SPF record?

David,

Do I have to add "ip4:66.175.222.108"?
Someone mentioned that I need to add ip4:66.175.222.12 too. Is that
correct?
Yes, those two are Groups.io's outbound mail servers, hosted at Linode.

When I send an email to groups.io, I get a DKIM fail and SPF fail. I
would like to work on SPF for now as I am just learning about this.
I don't really know anything about configuring one's own mail server properly, but including Groups.io's outbound mail servers as allowed senders in your SPF policy is likely to be effective, if a bit crude. Assuming that what you're aiming for is a DMARC pass from the receiving email service.

"Crude" in the sense that *any* message coming from those two servers can be authenticated as coming from you - not that I'd expect any fellow group members to spoof your From domain, except perhaps as a stunt.

Your DKIM signature of course is hopeless, as Groups.io modifies both the message Subject field and body (appended footer) on the way through. But at least Groups.io strips yours and applies its own DKIM signature, for whatever that's worth to the receiver. For DMARC purposes it is a fail because groups.io doesn't align with your domain in the header From field.

Groups.io also provides an Authentication-Results header to report on its own evaluation of your incoming DKIM and SPF results, and backs that up with an ARC signature so that any receiving email service can take Groups.io's word for your authentication, if they choose to trust Groups.io as an ARC sealer.
