Re: "Mask addresses in archive" not masking the munged addresses?

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Duane, what I mean is that the GIO-munged address is allowed to fully-show in the quoted text so it's easy for anyone to get the actual address from it.? I would think GIO would also mask the munged addresses it creates, even in the quoted text.?
There's also an instance in that GMF thread I mentioned where the actual email address of the original poster is shown.? I'll send you the message specifics offlist to see what I mean.

Cheers,
Christos

If I'm understanding what you're asking, the 'via' addresses have never been munged, only 'legitimate' email addresses.? If you look online, you can see that the 'real' addresses at the bottom of your message have been masked here on GMF.? The method that Mark is using isn't very foolproof for actually hiding email addresses, but keeps the casual user from finding them easily.

"Mask addresses in archive" not masking the munged addresses?

Hi folks,

Could someone doublecheck or shed some light into this?

I have a public group with the "Mask email addresses in archive" set to ON.?

I used a non-member address to view that topic in question.

Normal (not-munged) address gets correctly masked if the address is in the reply "header" line, i.e. "On Wed, Jun 1, 2022 at 12:55 PM Christos Psarras <christos@...> wrote:"

But if there's a GIO-munged address in there (or in the quoted text) it seems it gets missed and the full munged address gets displayed, for example <xyz@...>.

I then took the test further and also included the regular gmail address and the munged gmail address in the message body of a reply message.? Neither gets masked this time!?!? See attached for mode details.?

A quick sanity check on a GMF thread (which is also public and I presume Email address masking is also ON) reveals also regular and munged addresses showing in the quoted text, look in the "Monitor Participation" topic and you'll find them.

Is this what's supposed to happen?? It doesn't look right to me if email address masking is ON, both regular and munged addresses should be masked anywhere in the text including quoted text, right?

Cheers,
Christos

Re: Monitor Participation

Frances - I think you are correct that the message was not sent. However I was in the section Admin/settings/members notifications etc etc - not in the section to create and send a new message as a member/owner in the normal manner ......barry

Re: Monitor Participation

Frances - thankyou. You are correct - on the uk bit and its 18.18 hours here and your system shows 12.42 pm ? Specifically the tab I hit last was "update notice".

I had a welcome message already but not a monthly one/ I then created a monthly reminder message/ then I deleted the welcome message and finally I edited the reminder message finishing off with me pressing " update notice"

All in activity log - barry

Check the other owners member records in the section for Owner Email.? Since the person sending the info isn't a member yet, then the owners need to select All Emails to get those replies.

It's possible they're set to not receive moderator emails. You can check their member record - the notification section will look like this:

I have two members set to "owner" membership.? I am wondering why they do not receive the replies I get when a person has applied for membership and they respond to the questionnaire sent to them automatically.

You said "update". Perhaps you meant "add notice"? Or did you already have a Monthly Reminder and you updated it?

It hasn't been sent in Activity?

Just a thought - could it be that it hasn't been sent yet because of time zone? I see you have a UK email address. Groups.io's headquarters are west coast USA.

Re: Monitor Participation

I have been trying to make these special notices to members appear without success. My understanding is that you do not have to set up a hastag symbol for a special message (it creates "#" automatically). I have taken the following route so far -? Admin/settings/member notices/ (notice type) monthly reminder/active -ticked/special notice - ticked/ and then I typed in a simple message and pressed update ! job done I thought, but not so it would appear......

Clearly I am missing some thing along the way because nothing appears (message - wise) to start the ball rolling firstly and then every month after.

What part of the procedure have I missed out .....

Re: Need help separating one group from my account

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I've done this multiple times, and I've had no issues. All of my groups have always transferred with me. He could always make sure he finds a new owner for the group that he wants to drop anyway. But just stay a member of.

It's best to NOT use the merge function if you own any groups.? That's been known to leave the group without an owner, though it's not supposed to happen.? I don't know if this has been 'beefed up' since I last saw the problem.

Hello, if the email address, already has an account, he can simply just merge the two. And the one that he no longer needs will be delete it.

You can't 'separate' groups like that.? I'd have the new person create an account, join the group(s) they'll need, then make them co-owner.? Once you're sure things are working properly, just leave all the groups that no longer interest you.? There are other work-arounds of course, but that should be straight forward.

Once that's done, change your email address for your account to the one you'll be using.? Just make sure it doesn't already have a account.

Need help separating one group from my account

Dennis Storzek

Hi,

I manage two groups and subscribe to eight or ten others. Of the two I manage, one is a personal interest hobby group, and the other pertains to work. When I moved two years ago, I was going to lose my long time e-mail address, and, not having a new provider lined up,? I transferred my personal interest groups to my work e-mail. This had the effect of combining the accounts under that e-mail. I am now retiring, and want to hand the work related group off to someone else, but I can find no obvious way to separate it from my account. What am I missing? I don't want to lose continuity with any of the groups.

Thanks,
Dennis Storzek

Database change notifications to moderators #notifications

This is an exceptional and beneficial feature, especially when a bunch of amateurs may be banging around in your database. Their 'help' is invaluable and save hours of research and entry, but...

I've found a few items within the Users and Owners manuals on this but I can't find anything addressing this specific process. And, having just (within the hour) published/released my first Database within our Forum, just gotten the first Notice of Change by a member. I got a brief email that simply said: "(member [email address]) updated row in Last Alarm Roster".
And I thought...'that's nice.' But, gee, I wonder which column in which (of 128) row(s) he made the change. Nothing in the Manuals suggests columnar details (though that would be nice - like specifying which cell in a spreadsheet), I figured it would at least suggest the Row.

In reading the text of the message, I'm led to believe that the message is/was actually intended to read
"(member [email address]) updated row (fill in the blank) in Last Alarm Roster". But it obviously did not populate with the Row Number.

I had to go into the Db, make 'Visible' the 'Updated' column (by default hidden), then find it hidden off the window to the right - with no scroll bar at the bottom of the screen to suggest that it was over there - and look for today's date/time to locate the Row, then assess the complete Row to identify the apparent anomaly from the original entries.

Did I miss something? Am I looking for something? that is not there? How is this supposed to appear and report?

This may actually be a Bug instead of a ManagerForum post.

Thanks all.

Sandy, if you still need help with this, I would not mind hosting a zoom call with a ride return from vacation, to help your clients out. If this would be of interest to you, please contact me privately. I will make this work just like this, your clients can ask the questions and I will screen share and click on the answers.

I know about the online manuals, but the people I need to educate stumble over the manual's indepth information and terminology. They would be better helped initially by an audio-visual overview. After grasping the major concepts, I could then direct them to links in the manual for specific answers.?
