Re: Members list added variable columns display problem

Duane is correct.? I erroneously assumed the column width setting was for characters, not pixels.? It would help if the option could be labeled "Display Width (Pixels)" rather than just "Display Width."? Even better would be to make the value refer to characters, which I think would be more useful to most nontechnical moderators or owners.

The width setting throws off a lot of people.? It's in pixels, not characters as many would presume.

Re: Members list added variable columns display problem

Andy,

Thanks!?? Changing the display width back to the default 0 solved the extra member data display problem.? I retained two separate variables, one for house number and one for street, for sorting purposes and because we don't need city, state, or zip code.?

I strongly suspect that you are also specifying columns widths for these new columns. This is problematic as different devices have different widths. Just leave the width as 0 (the default) and it will look better.? Note if you add a field of type address, you can specify the house number and street name under one column on the member list display.? It will also contain a link to a map, which I'm guessing should be Google Maps as per database address fields but it doesn't work so I'll raise a bug for that.?? Adding extra member data is a new feature and does not seem to be full developed yet so I would not be surprised if there were one or two more gremlins under the covers.

Re: Allowing members to see each others email addresses

Set up a database where people can add their email addresses if they want to and send out a email to group saying done that, then it's up to them if want to or not

Members list added variable columns display problem

I've added variables/columns for house number and street name to the members list for the premium group I moderate for my neighborhood.? The new variables/columns appear to the right of "Delivery" and "Applied"? on the screen but show on top of each other and take up multiple lines as shown in the screen capture below:

Am I doing something wrong?? Is there a way to fix this or any way to change the display of? other columns to narrow the space allocated for the "Display Name" and "Email Address" columns, which are much wider than necessary, so the new columns could be displayed correctly on the screen??

Thanks for any advice about this.

? Bob

Re: Allowing members to see each others email addresses

Few of our members access the website, or even know it exists, so we handle most things via email.? At one extreme we would send out a contact list with everyone¡¯s email addresses, at the other extreme we would have a middleman to connect people (getting permission from both ends).? Any thoughts on this?

You could send out an email saying you are going to do a poll. Then set up a poll to ask people whether they want their emails shared or not. You could include options in the poll. I think the idea of having a middle content would be very labor intensive.

Re: Allowing members to see each others email addresses

I created a database and asked everyone to enter their contact info.? Very useful.

Christos detailed how to set this data initially.? The Extra Member Data fields are new and the whole set up is not fully developed just yet. There are ongoing discussions about how this feature would be used in subgroups so as yet, the extra data is only available in a main group. Personally, I would like to see fields and values defined in the main group propagate to subgroups in the same way that member colours do. The /updatemember endpoint in the API has been updated to expose the new fields but I suspect, could be subject to change as this feature is developed further.

Andy

Re: Extra Member Data

You can only add info if you have a paid group, free groups only display that data (if there already, to account for downgrades).

If you do have a paid group, you need to first define what the extra data fields are, go to Admin->Settings->Default Sub Settings and make sure to hit Save on the bottom of the page.? You can then edit that data per member.

Cheers,
Christos

Since this is Premium and Enterprise feature only, I can't test it, but here are instructions from Help:

If the group is private and/or by invitation only, I don't see a big problem making the members list available.? If it were me, I'd create a poll to ask the members which they prefer.? It probably wouldn't be truly representative if folks aren't willing to log in to vote, but it might give you an idea.? Actually, just sending a message to everyone to ask their opinion might be better since they could reply without logging in.? They should remember that their email address is visible to anyone that gets one of their posts, so not really a big deal.

Allowing members to see each others email addresses

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I am a co-owner of a small group (75 people) of high school classmates.? We are discussing what our policy should be for making email addresses visible to the group.? I cannot find anything in the terms that address this issue, but I see that groups.io is very careful with this information and by design it is hard to make it visible.? Few of our members access the website, or even know it exists, so we handle most things via email.? At one extreme we would send out a contact list with everyone¡¯s email addresses, at the other extreme we would have a middleman to connect people (getting permission from both ends).? Re: Can't upload large file

Once the upload button is clicked, a rotating circle appears up on the tab on the browser's tab bar for the open page on which I'm specifying the upload.? It continues rotating until, about 15-30 minutes later, I get the blank .../editfiles page, just as Duane reported he was experiencing, too.

Anyway, glad it worked for you.? Even if it's a goofy network connectivity/throttling issue, there would still seem to be opportunity to enhance the programming of the upload feature to provide the user better monitoring of what's going on, such as Google Drive does.

Yes, go to /helpcenter/ownersmanual then on the left click on "Inviting people to join a group".? (you can bookmark the manual link or get to it when online by clicking on the Help link at the right of the top blue bar)

TO get there, click on Admin -> Invite.
