If I remember correctly, accepting the invitation also confirms the account of someone that has never had one.? Probably in there somewhere...

Re: [daily automatic] #messages

It works!!? The link I got earlier from Bruce just talked about setting up the locked groups notice, but did not include the part about having to lock the group itself.? Thanks so much!

Ann

Mod's note from Frances - Just an FYI, there is a hyperlink in the notice help page to locking - "when the group is locked".?Glad it worked!

Ann, did you also lock the group? I think it would happen immediately if the group is locked and the notice is activated.

Is your group actually locked?

Duane, this most useful one is: ?/helpcenter/membersmanual/1/joining-groups/responding-to-a-confirm-your-subscription-message,?
which lists everything except what happens if you are responding to an invitation. I double-checked the process because I thought that leaving out a common way to join Groups.io was odd.

It says:
In certain situations, you will receive a message from Groups.io asking you to reply to complete your subscription. The situations that generate this message are:
?
You do not have a Groups.io account, and you click a Join This Group button on a group¡¯s website.
You have a Groups.io account but you are not logged in to it, and you click a Join This Group button on a group¡¯s website.
You are logged in to a Groups.io account but you do not yet belong to any groups, and you click a Join This Group button on a group¡¯s website.
You send an email request to join a group that is restricted (that is, a group owner or moderator must approve membership requests).
You change the email address in your Groups.io account.
You create a new Groups.io account.
The subject line of the message is ¡°Confirm your Groups.io subscription.¡± You must reply to that message (you do not need to include any additional text) to verify your email address and complete your subscription.

I think that there is another one ?that should be added - You receive an invitation to join a group.

Re: How to know if members have a Groups.io account

I don't think that the member help is clear enough about what happens if someone doesn't have a Groups.io account.

Anyone agree with my thinking? I can send something to Beta, Docs subgroup, but if iHelp is clear to everyone else, then I won't!

The help assumes if you get an invitation, you have a Groups.io account already. It doesn't say what happens if you are new to Groups.io
/helpcenter/membersmanual/1/joining-groups

I actually tested it with a new Gmail account to see exactly what happens with an email address that is new to Groups.io.?

Re: How to know if members have a Groups.io account

If someone doesn't have a Groups.io account, they receive a Welcome to Groups.io email after they reply to the invitation. It says:

Hello,
Thank you for confirming your account. You will now receive messages from the groups you are subscribed to. If any of the groups you subscribed to require approval before joining, you will be notified when that happens.
Visit our help center for more information about how the Groups.io site works.

They also get a welcome to your group email. They will get a Group guidelines email if you have one. Both these messages can be edited (more content added) in Admin, Settings, Member Notices. (So can your invitation.)

You do not have to do anything. It is all automatic.

Frances

If they are on your list then they have an account, that's the way groups.io works. The real question is whether they know how to log in to the web site to access the group there. They may have an account but never have logged in - many people are content to just work by email.

You will need to be more specific about the notification. Can you provide a
screen shot of it or if it's an email notification, the full text of it, please?

If it's a notification about a member changing their displayed name, you'll get
that when a member changes it, usually from a default of the member's email
address to something they want to use as a username. This was a recent change.
You can disable the notifications for that.

While I don't pretend to know the answer can I ask if the errant member was definitively removed or perhaps put on the Banned list.

I ask just in case someone like the person you mentioned retains their Account; it is not beyond the bounds of possibility that a change of the account email address might work its way through to an entry on a banned list.?

Considering that Groups.io is a group email service, it stands to reason (to me anyway) that they may show up in the source code of messages, as several here do.

I joined your group and used View Source from the More menu on a few of
them. The = sign at the end of a line is a continuation character that
instructs the browser to concatenate the lines.
No, that isn't a browser feature at all. "=" at the end of a line is a feature
of quoted-printable encoding, which is normally used only in email. HTML
content in email should be completely decoded before passing it to a web
browser or display engine.

An email-to-web conversion should not include URLs that are broken up in
any way. Special characters in URLs embedded within HTML content are handled
a completely different way, called "URL encoding", based on %xx escapes.

That was my initial thought, but? no authentication.? They also show up on Google Images and FB/Twitter when I syndicate there.

*Something* seems to be between groups.io and my host that is blocking access.

But thanks for your time and input, this clue might very well lead to something; I'll keep trying different solutions.
