Re: Storage in my group

If you haven't already, go to Admin > Upgrade (Billing on a Premium group) and click on the link for [View Attachments].? I had some mysterious (to me) space usage in a non-attachment group and it turned out to be Calendar invitations.? I deleted those by editing the posts where they appeared and the space freed up.

Thanks for all the input. I'll just go ahead and delete the discussions.
The duration feature seems intriguing.

Curious. How did Mark gain Moderator privileges in the Y!G without an owner's intervention??

Does calendar go to Special Notices?

debbie

Until now, I had the guidelines going to the group on the first of every month. I set a calendar notice of the guidelines to go to the group once a week. I then unchecked, in the member notices, the box for sending the guidelines on the 1st. At the same time the box for sending to Special Notices disappeared. So, do the Special Notices people get the calendar notices?

The issue of many people not reading our guidelines (which includes all our subscription change possibilities) is very bad. They all seem to think that it does not apply to them and that they do not need to save a copy. (Subject line says Read and Save!) I want it to be in their faces, but not more than once a week to annoy the people too much that do actually use the guidelines.

Anyone with any experience with this issue with ideas?

Debbie

Re: Groups.io site updates #changelog

Marina,

I haven't been able to find the "All Posts by This Member".
Where is it?
o In the list of pages on the left click "Directory"
o Find the member of interest (if listed), click on his/her entry
o Click on the "All Posts By This Member" link
(in the block of info beside his/her image)

Or,

In the More menu under one of the person's messages.

Re: Who moderated?

Don,

My group has 4 moderators. Is there an easy way by looking at a
message to determine who approved / moderated the message?
As Duane and J have said, not from the message itself.

Some time ago I mentioned in beta that I thought it would be a good feature, but that was buried in another topic.

I don't know if you had in mind something similar, or something exposed (only to moderators?) through the web presentation of the Messages.

Re: Numbering Messages on Transfer

Sharon,

Transferred messages stay in order by date but appear to be
renumbered.
...
This isn¡¯t a problem for us but I am preparing to transfer a number of
lists for one organization and need to be able to explain the logic of
this.
The messages are assigned the next available number as they are copied over. There is generally no correspondence between the message numbers in the Yahoo Group and in the Groups.io group.

So, messages that were posted in the Groups.io group before or during the transfer, and messages that were deleted from the Yahoo Group both serve to prevent the copied messages from retaining their Yahoo Group numbering.

Re: Suspicious "set display name via email" events

J_Catlady

Can you go into each of the display-name people's activity hisotry and see if they "set display name via email" or "set display name via web"? I'm assuming they're "via email." Then check and see if they have a log entry of sending an email right before the set-display-name entry.

Re: Suspicious "set display name via email" events

Well, in any case the "set display name" people are different from the "bouncing via system" people, and have no bounce history at all, and all are "no-email" and "special notice only" delivery.

I wouldn't make too much of the chronology of the log entries. I would bet money that it's the bouncing that did it.

Re: Suspicious "set display name via email" events

They all appear to be "no-email", and "special notice" subscribers so would have received nothing via email from the group. And none have sent emails to group or owners.

some trigger to coincident first-time posting
Any emails sent by these members, if they are the first emails sent by them, will cause the display name to be set. So if you've had at least that many members post during those 10 minutes, OR send +owner emails, OR respond via email to just about anything coming from your group, it will cause that. It will die down eventually because the display name is only set the first time an email comes in. (Thankfully, Mark changed this from before, when it used to reset each time anybody sent an email.)

Re: Suspicious "set display name via email" events

Shal,

The group transferred several months ago so don't know that the transfer agent is still active. Also, the email addresses in question don't appear to have posted in our group since the transfer.

There was another incident like this reported recently.
Speculation included continued activity by the transfer agent (which is reported as "via email") or some trigger to coincident first-time posting.

Stan,
... I think you are replying to the message I sent where I said the reason the drop down list was confusing was because of a bug. If so, this means my message was approved by the moderators and I still am not getting some of my email copies of what I send on a timely basis like I should.
You can always check here to see if a message posted:
/g/GroupManagersForum/message/5657

I contacted my internet provider about this over 7 days ago and still haven't heard from them.
For what it is worth, your Email Delivery History corroborates your observation that attempts to deliver messages to you continue to be sometimes unsuccessful:

You can check this too when you are concerned about message delivery.

I'm not precisely certain what EOF (usually "End of File") means in this context, but I'm guessing it indicates some kind of protocol failure in the delivery. That might be useful information for your internet provider, if they pursue the issue.

Re: Suspicious "set display name via email" events

Hmmm, there were 11 "bouncing via system" events a little while *after* the "set display name by email" events-- 11 bounces total, but different from the "set display name" addresses.

And several of the "display name" addresses whose email delivery history I checked showed "no recent bounces".
