This is probably something that should be discussed on the Beta group.? The Beta group is where suggestions to be added to Groups.io is discussed.? That way through the Beta group, Mark would see this discussion.? The Group Managers Forum is unmoderated and Mark would not see this here. ? Has there been any discussion about allowing Owners, Moderators to have FTP interaction with Files and/or Photos??
I see there have been requests for bulk download and other operations such as moving files. The current UI for uploads sucks when the number of files is large because the UI generates a thumbnail for each file and you cannot start the upload process until it is finished. Both of those issues could become non-issues if there were FTP access to those areas. It's of primary interest to group founders and organisers while subscribers would have little or no direct interest. While the best solution is to support the needs in the Groups.io user interface, this may be a case where the cost of development is way more than that of the workaround and is of direct benefit to few. Of course, one would think the subscribers will benefit from a better organised group site if the organisers have better tools. |
Re: How do I contact a member of my group?
Marina,
I wanted to contact off list a member of my group. As a moderator or owner of the group you can send a message to the member through the Members list. o? Find the member(s) in the list o? Click the checkbox on the (each) member's row o? In the Actions menu, select Send Message I have tried to find him in the Members List, putting his name in the Search box, but the search strangely gave no result, although he is obviously a member of the group. That is strange. All I can think of is that you typo'd the name, or accidentally included a space character or something else before or after the name in the search box.* Search in the Members list does partial matches, so you might try typing part of the name to make it easier. Shal* That's probably a bug report: search should ignore leading/trailing spaces I think. -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |

Re: Migration questions
Duane, Bingo! It is the URL of the HOME page. We have gotten some subscription requests we could not figure out. Thank you for solving my little mystery! Asked for donations and got $5, $10 and $20 donations (via PayPal) to cover the cost, and that's a group of about 50 people.? Initially $50 p.a. and then boosted to $100 p.a. and soon to shut down (hence my search for a new platform to which I can transfer content and restore some semblance what we have). I solicited donations through PayPal and very quickly received enough for a couple of years. But it means going back to the members periodically and now PayPal has to report its distributions to the tax man. These donations in and expensed out to the service provider are counted as taxable income (in my country, anyway).?? |

Re: Calendar notices ¨Ca further question . . .
You could edit the #cal-notice hashtag and have it send as special.? If it hasn't been used, it might not exist, but you could create it.

Re: Calendar notices ¨Ca further question . . .
So Shal,
Is there any way (or setting) to use to send a Calendar Notice like a Special Notice similar to what was available with Y!Groups (when sending a message or making a reply)? Those messages went to all members I understand whether they are No Email or not. TIA Paul M. Owner/Moderator CostaRicaLiving == |
Re: Migration questions
Duane, Ref:getting to home page by accident Even if I enter URL I do not get to the home page. I copied URL at my site, then logged out, then entered URL in browser and got to "Enter Password" page. Still don't understand how someone could get to my home page. Ullmang On Mar 13, 2018 10:51 AM, "Duane" <txpigeon@...> wrote: On Tue, Mar 13, 2018 at 07:45 am, Ullman Garrett wrote: |
Re: How do I contact a member of my group?
J_Catlady
This was just discussed in another thread. PM is not yet a feature in groups.io.
You can go to your members list and click on either "Display name" at the top to sort the list by name, or on "email" to sort the list by email address, and find their email address that way. Or you can go to one of their posts and create a private reply by clicking on "reply" and then on "private" at the bottom right. Or you can try to find an email from them in your inbox. -- J |
How do I contact a member of my group?
I wanted to contact off list a member of my group. I thought that I could do this by clicking on his name/link under one of his posts, but I was redirected to his profile page, where I found no address, the only link being All Posts by This Member.
I have tried to find him in the Members List, putting his name in the Search box, but the search strangely gave no result, although he is obviously a member of the group. My group is set to Do not mask e-mail addresses in Archives. How can I contact a member off list? Marina |

Re: Migration questions
Shall, You said: You can avoid listing the group in the Groups.io directory, and you can make your group's Messages available to members only. Also Wiki, Calendar and Guidelines; each has their own setting. But you can't make the home page itself invisible to non-members as one could in Yahoo Groups If visibility is set to "not listed in directory, private archives" I can't find a group. How could I get to home page with that setting?? Ullmang On Mar 13, 2018 3:45 AM, "Shal Farley" <shals2nd@...> wrote: Mike, |
Re: accessing attachments
Paul,
Does this mean that the only group members that can view attachmentsNo, group members can access them through the messages they were attached to. And in the special case of images, there's an Emailed Photos album for them. Re: Migration questions
Mike,
Can a group be private and unseen by the community generally,Somewhat. But there is no equivalent to what Yahoo Groups classic called a "closed" group. You can avoid listing the group in the Groups.io directory, and you can make your group's Messages available to members only. Also Wiki, Calendar and Guidelines; each has their own setting. But you can't make the home page itself invisible to non-members as one could in Yahoo Groups. thus only available by invitation.Nor can you prevent people from using the "Request Membership" button or the +subscribe email command. However, if your group has "Restricted Membership" checked you can ignore or reject all such applications. Re: Moving photos from one album to another
Carl,
Let me add one more vote to having this high on the Todo List. MovingAs Duane said earlier in this topic, It is on the official To-Do list: But to "cast a vote" for it you'd have to chime in on the beta group, there are no Groups.io personnel monitoring GMF. You could add a reply to this topic: "Move photos between albums" Shal GMF Moderator -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |
