Re: Duplicate message to message originator #messages

Motti,

... see below my recent test example and how it shows in my inbox, the details on each look a little different, can you tell what it is from this?
?
Yes. The one From your address is your message as sent; the one From your address via is the copy of your message returned to you by Groups.io. The one returned to you will have the group footer on it, and may include any edits that a moderator may have made to the pending message (if you are moderated in that group).
?
Myself I prefer not to see the "as sent" version in my Inbox, I can always go look in the Sent folder if I want to see it. That's one of the reasons I don't like Gmail's Conversation mode.
?
You can, if you prefer, go into your Groups.io account Preferences page and uncheck the I always want copies of my own messages box. I think that will cause Gmail to hide the "as returned" copy from your Inbox and show you only the "as sent".

Re: Adding Members

Joe.

as a group owner/manager can I manually add them to the io group somehow?

For a one-time $10 payment you can Upgrade your group with the Group Transfer plan. That gives you access to Direct Add and other Premium features for one month (30 days, not calendar). On the Upgrade page click on the change plan button to see your choices

In the Basic (free) plan you can Invite them, then they have to accept the invitation.

Re: Polls

Thank you! ?Wonderful!
Makes me feel blind as a bat, LOL.

Re: Duplicate message to message originator #messages

Hi Shal,
Thanks for the answer, this is indeed odd.
To answer some of your questions:

  • This really only happens when I post by sending an email to the group email address (this is the preferred posting method of all of our members), if I create a new topic on groups.io, no problem at all
  • When this happens (posting from email) the topic does NOT appear twice on groups.io messages, only in the email
This is probably related to the email client and not groups.io as you indicated, but just a little annoying for some of our members, I'll try to figure this out, playing with conversation settings and such, see below my recent test example and how it shows in my inbox, the details on each look a little different, can you tell what it is from this?

Re: Adding Members

You can do Direct Add only if you upgrade to a premium plan.? Otherwise, you can send invites and they have to accept them to join.
Thanks
Toby

Re: Member Bouncing

Info on how to investigate bouncing is here ->?/static/help#bouncing
The message has been rejected by the member's mail service.? The member or group mod need to determine the reason for the rejection by viewing the activity logs.??
"Note that bouncing activity information is accessible to individual users as well as group moderators. Any user can view their own bounce history by going into the Subscription page of their groups and clicking on Email Delivery History, or by going into their Account page and clicking on Recent Bounces."
We (GMF) can only help if we know the error message returned by the mail service.
Thanks
Toby

Re: Polls

New Topic -> The button that says "New Poll" right underneath the name of the group.

See?/g/GroupManagersForum/topic/17301634

This thread gives you useful info about creating polls as well as the answer to your question.?

Adding Members

I have an Old E-Mail group that worked great. But the number of people in it has gotten to be quite large, so, I made a Groups.io group for the group to communicate through instead.

75% of the group have joined the IO group but a few stragglers are still only on the E-Mail group.

as a group owner/manager can I manually add them to the io group somehow?

Hi Shal,
The photos were jpgs.?
It displays like this:

The link looks like this:
https://ecir.groups.io/g/CaseHistory/photo/6013/62?p=pcreated,,,50,2,0,0

For what it's worth, she sent them to me to upload and it did the same for me.? All her other images (using the same camera) all work fine.?

Re: Subgroup with limited privacy #subgroups #bug #howto

BB,

In fact, I went back to take a screenshot of the other options and bam
the other subgroups are down to two options as well.

There used to be several.
The Visibility control moves only in one direction: stricter. When you tighten it up you can't loosen it again.

There were SIX total options if I remember.
Five:

o Group listed in parent group, publicly viewable messages
o Group listed in parent group, messages viewable by parent group members
o Group listed in parent group, messages viewable by subgroup members only
o Group not listed in parent group, messages viewable by subgroup members only
o Group not listed in parent group, publicly viewable messages

I feel like I changed some setting in the parent group? WHAT did I do?
I don't think changes to the primary group's Visibility affects the subgroup Visibility settings. At least it doesn't seem to have in my test group. But that change (of the primary to members-only message view) happened quite a while ago. I'd have to create another test group to try it again.

Subgroup with limited privacy #subgroups #bug #howto

hello Groups.io forum,

Tonight I was plugging along starting some new subgroups for my school. When I noticed my newest only has TWO privacy settings, viewable to group (messages and all) or not viewable. In fact, I went back to take a screenshot of the other options and bam the other subgroups are down to two options as well.

There used to be several. viewable subgroup & messages, Viewable subgroup but messages only viewable to subgroups members, Not viewable subgroup, etc. There were SIX total options if I remember. I feel like I changed some setting in the parent group??WHAT did I do?

Re: My account gets bounced about...

Al,

Seems like every week or two, my subscribed address: ...
Gets bounced.
Assuming you mean that your address gets placed on Bouncing status then go to your Account and have a look at the Recent Bounces page. That should tell you what your email service told Groups.io when it rejected ("bounced") messages from Groups.io.

You can also get that information from the Email Delivery History tab of your Subscription page at any Groups.io group.

I just don¡¯t understand why periodically this keeps happening
That would depend on what reason your email service gave. You might have to ask their customer support to explain the error code and message, and how to avoid having it happen again.

My account gets bounced about...

Seems like every week or two, my subscribed address:

Gets bounced. I then respond to the email I receive and all is ok until next time. What is causing this? I understand the whole bouncing concept so don¡¯t need explanations on that. I just don¡¯t understand why periodically this keeps happening

Re: Possible "Missing Activity"

Duane; many thanks for the clarification. When I spotted this anomaly yesterday I didn't see it as being any sort of show - stopper, just a bit of a puzzle. I also suspect that some member actions carried out by email may also not be logged, but at the moment lack definitive evidence either way.

I might make further enquiries to see if any change in what is logged is planned in the foreseeable future, and might ask if resending Pending Membership messages could be flagged on the "pending subscriptions" page, rather than having to go hunting for them.

Re: photos are loading but not displaying properly

LeeAnne,

A member recently posted some photos and they are not displaying
properly:
...
From your screen shots I'd guess that the photos were in a format that Groups.io's image resizing function couldn't handle.

It has been discovered that if you click on the broken photo icon
thingy in top left corner it will open the photo.
That's odd. I've not seen that behavior. Does the photo open in the page as it normally should have (with the info and buttons below) or is the browser opening the photo file as a page? Maybe that doesn't matter since it shouldn't happen in either case.

Any ideas ... what can be done about it?
Maybe have the member convert the images to a standard format and re-upload. That may depend on the origin of the photos (scanner, camera, other) and what software may have been used to process them before uploading.

Or maybe report them to [email protected] to see if whatever happened to them can be fixed.

Is it possible to get a twitter feed as an integration?

I was wondering if anyone has successfully managed to get a twitter feed as an integration?? I know that some sites will take a twitter feed and give it to you as RSS and that this site allows RSS.

Just wondering if anyone has done it and how.

Thanks
