inconsistent email notification

I just migrated about 700 users to a new groups.io site, and the group is setup as an announce only group.? There are several subgroups that people can post ot, but the main group is setup for announce only.? Some users mentioned they were not seeing email notices about new posts, although their subscription settings were set to receive individual messages.? I checked the most recent email activity and see that they did get some notices, but not all.? For one member, I deleted and re-added his membership and that seemed to fix the problem.? I did a spot check and it looks like 200-300 of my users may have the same problem.? Is there something I am missing or do I have to delete those re-add them?? ?On a related note, is it possible to dump a report showing the most recent mail message each user has received?? That would help me locate those that need to be deleted and re-added instead of doing it for everyone.

Re: Mysterious Email Problem

Jim,

As soon as I realized that my periodic re-inviting past members might be construed as Spam, I deleted that list of invited people so I couldn't do that again. I thought when an invite was sent, the person it was sent to could click on a link in the email invite that would tell me they did not want to join. I guess that was my mistake to think that.

I have been in communication with Cox about this, and tomorrow I have a scheduled phone call with a level 2 person to find out what they have been able to do...or not do.

I'll check out the link, and think about your last idea.

Thanks,
Don

The Subject Tag is only applied to outgoing emails. You will not see it in the online message archive.

Subject tag not pre-pending #bug

I'm not sure if I am just missing a switch somewhere, but my Subject tag is not being pre-pended to the subject line on my posts. The Subject Tag box is filled in with the default of [CRFCRC-Board] and I don't see anything else to check or fill in.

Trista -- Toby and Duane are both correct, assuming you haven't disabled it.

To set it up:

-- Go to Admin>Settings>Message Policies. Using the pull-down menu, set the group default "Reply To" setting to whichever you want (group OR sender, for reasons you've encountered I don't recommend both).
-- UNcheck the "Remove Other Reply Options" checkbox immediately below.
-- Consider scrolling down to Message Formatting and clicking "Force HTML Emails." This is required to ensure all the desired mailto links will appear in every message footer.
-- Scroll to the bottom and click "Update Group."

The group default reply setting (whichever one you established) will be automatically applied if:

-- Via email, the subscriber clicks "Reply" in their email client, or
-- Online, the subscriber clicks the "Reply" button below the original message.?

If a subscriber wants to override this and send a private message in a "reply-to-group" group (or vice versa):

-- Via email, click on the corresponding footer link, or
-- Online, click the "greyed-out" button at lower right of the message editor window to toggle to the other option.

Re: Date / Time stamp on posts . . . #date-time-display

The same problem was reported by one of my members, so I have reported the issue to Support. Mark must have made some change that accidently removed this information (Date/Time stamp) from the Topic view of the Messages.

Maybe, if the default setting is Reply To Group.? If the group is set to Reply to Sender, the button will say Group Reply.? Neither button will show if the Remove Other Reply Options is checked in the Message Policies section of Settings.

PERSONAL EMAIL AND WORK EMAIL

Ellen Bourne

A user went into their personal email to respond back to my email.? When they selected the reply to sender my email popped up in to their work email.?
Then they selected reply to sender and it pulls in their work email.
Is there a fix for that?

Re: Reply offering choice of replying to group or to sender

Yes, there is a button marked "Private" at the bottom right of the text entry box for replying privately to the sender.

Re: replying to individuals?

Nick,
What you're seeing is the sender email encoded inside an email address fabricated by groups.io when it sends out the post.? The "@" symbol can't be used in the username part so it is replaced with an "=" symbol.? Groups.io needs to do that in certain cases.? It's discussed further in this thread.
If you receive mail in html format, there are links for Reply to Group / Reply to Sender that provide the correct address.
Otherwise, you'll need to edit the email address to remove the "@groups.io" and change the "=" to "@" to use the address in the From: field.
Toby

Reply offering choice of replying to group or to sender

Is there any way to enable people using the group via the site, as opposed to by email, to choose either to send a particular message to the group or to sender? Looking under settings I couldn't find a way to offer both these options as an either or by default. I tried "group and sender" but the result was that the group got the message and the sender got it twice. Otherwise it's just "group" for all mails or "sender" for all mails. And it doesn't seem possible either to delete the group address and physically type in the sender's address before sending, since @groups.io is a permanent fixture.
Thanks for your help.

Re: two different email addresses link to one account

Why bother with forwarding?? It's easy to configure your mail clients to retrieve email from multiple addresses/services.?

In Gmail, Settings -> Accounts and Import -> Import Mail and Contacts (Import from Yahoo!, Hotmail, AOL, or other webmail or POP3 accounts.)
All your email in one place and choose which account to use when sending.

Better yet, just use one email address and have your cell phone and your PC mail clients both connect to the one address.
Toby

Re: two different email addresses link to one account

Just a tip - if you do create two accounts, you can have different subscriptions for them. Perhaps, one every email, one a daily digest. Otherwise you may be inundated with email! The good news is that you can amalgamate the two accounts if you decide it isn't necessary any more.

Re: two different email addresses link to one account

Ron, as stated by Gerald, the easiest solution with a Gmail account is the ability to access your Gmail from any device anytime. You do not need to leave a computer on anywhere and you do not need to worry about forwarding.

?It sounds like I have two options, one create a second account, and the other is to try to do mail forwarding.? I think I¡¯m going to try Marlin47 way first, and try to forward the groups email.?

Based on the question you initially asked, this will work. Just understand that the email address you are forwarding to will be "receive only;" you will not be able to post messages to the group from there. Similarly, if you create an email alias, you will be able to post from either address but will not receive group emails at the alias.

The only way you can both post and receive group emails from two different email addresses is by setting up two accounts and subscribing them both to the group.
