Re: Home Page Photo Dimensions

As noted on the Cover Photo page: "Upload a file containing the cover photo. It will be scaled to fit within 900 x 300 pixels."

Re: Notice of Pricing Change

If your listserve is anything like the ones in my nearby neighborhoods, there is just email anyway,
not saved stuff that anyone wants to see again, so you can stay with Yahoogroups.

Plus, Mark has now eliminated the 500-member limit.

Re: Acceptance time frame for [email protected] account #transfer

I had created a new groups.io group in March in anticipation of the continued downward spiral of Yahoo!Groups since the sellout.

When we received the banner notice last week, I immediately went to Premium and started the process. ?All was finished within about 4 hours, except for the Photos section. ?Not a huge amount of files there, just a little tedious to transfer manually. ?(¡°Sed¡± is your UNIX/Linux friend! :-)

I have been involved with Amateur Radio groups here for most of the year and find this to be a much better home than Yahoo!Groups at its best.

I appreciate all that the owners have done!

So for all of those who decry the new fee, it is about $0.60 per day...

Re: When to make Welcome message active

Hi Frances.... and all interested.

I'm not sure this is particularly relevant, and all of you appear to already know this,?but FWIW:
A long time ago I had an offline exchange with Mark in which it became clear that sending out a welcome message and even advising the old yahoogroup members that you've added them to a? migrated groups.io group is optional.

If, for example, one wanted to take the event of the migration as a way to lose some troublesome members, if a mass "welcome to groups.io" does not go out, the moderator would have the option of removing the unwanted members ... leave them behind at the yahoogroup.
OTHOH, if your policy is "no troll left behind" a mass "welcome" is appropriate. ;-)

Re: Notice of Pricing Change

Jan Smith

Hi Bruce.? I have been stressing over this whole thing.? Even though I have a lot of members on my Yahoo Group, I am not actively giving them that much, but they still want to be connected to me.? I do not want to do the "Transfer" as I have an extremely large amount of photos, and don't want to transfer over the Files since a lot of them have Lessons, that group members have created for the group.? I don't feel it is right to transfer these, but if I can join MANUALLY I can upload my lessons if need be, later.? So, now that I've stressed over the 500 limit for free, I see that isn't so now.? ?Thank you for that.?

There are detailed instructions on how to transfer the Yahoo Groups, but I just want to create a group and have my group members join.?
Can somebody do some detailed instructions on how to do this (you can call it for Dummies for groups.io).?? ?We have a deadline, thanks to Yahoo, and even though Yahoo says we can communicate by email, I'm not sure how to do that as they will be taking away for us to create the conversations/messages.? Members don't have access to each other's email.??

Now with all that said, I know everyone is working very hard to accommodate the many Yahoo groups.??

Please get back to me on this, and thank you in advance.

When you write your welcome message letting members know about your transferring them to groups.io and you paste it into the box in the admin section of your new group and you make it ¡°active¡± does it go out immediately or does the site send it out after it realizes the transfer is complete.
An Active Welcome message get sent to each member when they join, or are transferred, which may or may not be before the transfer is completed.
If your Welcome message is not active then the default Welcome messages will be sent.

We are writing one but unsure when to make it ¡°active.¡± We don¡¯t want members coming over and roaming around a forum that we aren¡¯t finished setting up the way we like it.
Set Admin > Settings > Spam Control to:
"Moderated", or "New Users Moderated" with at least 1 "Messages from new subscribers require approval."
and give no Moderators "Approve Pending Messages" permission,
and no Owner approves any messages
the no messages will be posted.

Also go to Admin > Settings > Privacy
and make selections there.

Is there any other message groups.io emails to members after a transfer?
You would be wise to have:
-Prevented posting at YahooGroups

-Sent a Special Notice message to Members (through YahooGroups) saying that no one can Post as the Transfer has been initiated

-Then give Groups.io the go ahead

-After Groups.io tells you the transfer is complete:
Send a Special Notice message to Members (through Groups.io and YahooGroups) saying that Transfer has taken place and give the new web and posting addresses.

Connie, I tested it and couldn't see any way to do it. There is no image or attachment icon on the toolbar. You can put in a URL link. Also there is a Special Character tool.
I tried and succeeded in making this one.

Re: Group Upgrade Payment Debacle (was [email protected] e-mail address?)

Thank you for the reply Duane, I am hesitant to share the rest of this story but did not hear from anyone at Groups.io yet nor know if they received my inquires so here goes. I'll try to make this as brief as possible.

On Monday 10/21 fearing the multiple 'deadlines' speeding out of our control I decided to take the plunge and began upgrading my three existing Groups.io groups from "Free to 'Premium' at the then effective 1 year for $110 Premium rate.

As I was working through the groups in no particular order the I found the payments on Groups.io were slow to process and was dumped back to the enter credit card info screen several times.

After entering the same billing info several times for each group I finally received a successful completion for the first group and eventually a successful payment completion for my second group of the three at $110 per group for a year of premium service..

When I attempted to upgrade my third group the payment would not process. I called my bank and they said all was fine with my card and the bank agent said she saw the successful payments to Groups.io for groups one and two that had processed.

After talking to the bank I continued to try and ;'upgrade' the 3rd group multiple times over the next 8 hours using both the original and a second confirmed fully functional credit card yet my upgrade transaction for the third group would still would not process. I even switched browsers, devices and ISP's.

I continued this right up until the 0900 PDT 'deadline' at which time the yearly premium upgrade price for my third group doubled from $110 to $220.

I stopped at this point after having been up all night trying to give Groups.io my money.

I wrote [email protected] several times along the way providing invoice numbers and group names but haven't heard anything about my third group which remains in 'free' status with an offer to upgrade to yearly premium for $220. My first two IO groups are 'Premium' and ready to begin migration, .

Migrating the first two groups from Yahoo to groups.io makes no sense for me without the third due to overlapping members who cannot be members of all three groups.

I've already received bot info from IO about migrating one of the three groups but am hesitant to start not knowing the future status of my third group.

I do not want to deal with the complexity of managing and transferring the groups as sub-groups and opted to pay $110 each for all three groups as stand alone entities with the storage etc that would afford but now feel like I just wasted $220 for the first two groups in the process.

I can't afford to pay another $220 for the 3rd group on top of $220 already paid for the first two due to what my bank suggests was a Groups.io payment processing glitch out of both their and my control. The payment method used for groups one and two remains on file at IO for group 3 but no updates.

Thank you for reading and offering any suggestions.

Re: Suggestion for the Members Page #members #search

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I'm sorry, but it's not very intuitive.? Like most everyone else that has a search they have a small "x" in the search box that clears the search and resets the list back to no selection.

Try this, on the members page select something then without doing anything else try and select something else.? Your first selection will pop back up in the selection box.

Re: Acceptance time frame for [email protected] account #transfer

I purchased a Premium Plan, requested a transfer from Yahoo Groups, and invited [email protected] about 9:00am ET this morning.

I received an email from groups.io to make [email protected]?a YG moderator at 6:44pm this evening. I did so and gave the transfer go ahead.

So, almost 10 hours from invite to transfer go ahead.

Locked Latest info on pricing structure #announcement #pricing

Hi

A repost of an article that was sent out earlier this evening. People still haven't seen it.

Hi All,
?
Sometimes I reflect on my youth, and harken back to that simpler time, that quieter time. You know, seven days ago.
?
I appreciate all the feedback, and I mean ALL of it. My intention with the pricing change is solely to set up the business for long term success and to help offset the very large increase in my costs over just this past week.
?
I realize it was a mistake to talk about future changes to the pricing structure without actually, you know, knowing what those changes might (or might not) be. As part of that, it was a mistake to change the definition of a free group right now. I've rolled back that change; new free groups do not have limits on the number of subscribers and subgroups. Hopefully this will address Harm Selling's concern, among others. Also, this means that any groups that wish to move over but cannot afford the transfer fee can still take advantage of a free group's invite feature.
?
I apologize for any confusion this may have caused.
?
Thanks,
Mark
