Re: Pleasure dealing with Groups.io
Our group that was started as a Yahoo group in 2002 migrated to groups.io in March 2018. It went so smoothly! We use almost every feature, have expanded membership significantly (about 1200 now), and have had very few glitches. I am so very pleased with groups.io.? Just recently when I noted a few things (hashtags, searches, for example) that are not working as usual, I came to this forum to see if others are experiencing the same issues. I see that there has been a major demand for transfers to groups.io that is taxing the system.? I am hopeful - confident - that things will get back to normal. The snafus are not affecting our most important functions.
Thanks for all you do everyone at groups.io. Ro |

Re: Narrow formatting in Digests?
Sandi,
But a lot of factors enter into how things are displayed. The problem is different in an email message. The Groups.io site is responsive, but attempting to build fully responsive code is probably impractical given what various email interfaces are willing to allow in an email body. Fortunately I think what Phil wants wouldn't require responsive coding. It would be enough for the style of the HTML not to set a fixed column width. This has been mentioned in beta previously. Phil could take it up there again, once the surge of Yahoo Group transfers is over. In the mean time, Phil might try the Plain Text digest. It won't have a fixed column width (nor any other formatting). Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |
Re: BT + problem leads to ghost registration
Ken,
I am trying to help someone join my Group, but they have a BT emailAs Chris said, that won't happen if they use their webmail interface rather than an SMTP client. Trying to avoid the email route I asked him to try and subscribe viaThat message says that he needs to use the Log In page, not the Sign Up page. A membership (subscription) in a group is separate from whether the person's email address has been registered at Groups.io. A single address (account) can participate in multiple groups. And even if this person is not yet a member of any other groups, the account may exist as a result of prior attempts at joining a group. and there¡¯s no way he could ever have logged in previously and createdAgain incorrect. You, as a group owner, cannot tell if they have or not - all you know is whether they've joined your group. The account exists independent of any group memberships, and even independent of whether the person ever logs in to use it. Can anyone suggest how to clear this restriction or otherwise explainThe person needs to use the Log In page. On that page select either the "Forgot your password, or don't have one yet?" link or the "Email Link To Log In" button - both do the same thing. Once logged in to Groups.io, the person should be able to Join your group (or Request membership, if your group is restricted). I would agree.
But a lot of factors enter into how things are displayed. I use a host and their "responsive" templates for one my website customers fills my Mac computer screen in my browsers but it does not fill the screen of my client's browser on his PC. Instead it displays white space on either side of "narrow text".? It's sometimes far too labor intensive or difficult to discover what coding or client preference setting is preventing "a narrow window" from filling a specific display. While coders do their best for operating systems and programs/software it can sometimes be traced down to a user's preference setting somewhere. -- Sandi Dickenson Moderator of ASG Volunteers Group |

Re: Invite-to-membership time for Yahoo Group (in order to begin transfer)
I am assuming you correctly sent an invitation from your YahooGroup to the transfer agent email address. Not the other way round.
From the FAQ on moving from Yahoogroups: 11. How do I check the transfer status?
?
Transfers are queued up when you first set it up and processed in that order until you get to Step 5.?
?
At that point they are re-ordered based on when the transfer go-ahead is given and uploaded to groups.io in that order (unless you pay $200 for priority service).
?
When you click on the green "Set Up New Transfer" button at bottom left of the Yahoo groups transfer page (/yahootransfer), a new page will come up where you can enter the source and destination group names.?
?
There is also a series of checkboxes for the various areas of the group to transfer (files, photos, members, messages, etc). Simply uncheck the ones you don't want before clicking the "Start New Transfer Process" button.
?
If you've already started a transfer, return to the Yahoo groups transfer page (/yahootransfer), select the transfer you've already started from the "Existing Transfers" list (pull down the menu and click on its name). On the resulting page you will see the same series of checkboxes. Uncheck the ones you don't want and then click the "Update Transfer" button. Actual transfer status for any ongoing transfer can be found in the status box at the top of the page.
?
New (2019-10-23): more details now available. See
?
New (2019-10-25) If you have started a Yahoo Group transfer, and the status is the message that starts "Make sure you have sent an invite to your group", that means that we have not received your invite yet and that you should send another one. That message will change automatically when we receive the invite and is not subject to the delays in other parts of the process are seeing.

Re: Expedited Transfer Completed Very Quickly!
Martin Best
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi Isidro et al,
?
I understand your problem but be patient. I sent my invitation to Groups.io
on about Saturday, 19th October but didn¡¯t get their membership listed until
maybe the Monday morning, when
I was able to start the transfer process as per the procedure and that then
worked well. I am sure that I sent Groups.io a second invite when I got
impatient.
?
The deadline for adding content to Yahoo groups
is today, Monday, 28th October. I thought that maybe ¡°adding content¡± might
include adding members to the membership list, and therefore today would be the
deadline for instigating transfers to Groups.io. Whether this is the case or
not, many potential movers may assume that it is and Groups.io will probably be
inundated with requests to transfer. This would explain why transfers are taking
much longer now than they did 8 days ago. My advice to others has been: be
patient. I am aware of other Yahoo groups in the queue to transfer.
?
BTW, I sent a few messages to [email protected] but have yet to see any
replies, so I guess that all the staff are working their socks off and GMF is a
great way of getting around that problem. Lets keep up the good work of helping
each other.

Thank you sharing your experience. I have two groups awaiting transfer and I look very often if the status has changed because I feel responsible to all the users that gave me the trust to transfer the group... So I'm a little bit nervous at all. Isidro ? Am 28.10.2019 um 07:05 schrieb Dotty Bell:

I remained in Step 1 (waiting to download from Yahoo) until sometime on Friday, Oct. 25, when I reached Step 2 (download in progress).? By 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26 I was at Step 3 (waiting to upload to Groups.io) with 395 groups in queue ahead of me.? As of 3 p.m. today, Sunday, Oct. 27, there were still 383 ahead of me.? I concluded that at approximately 10 groups per day, it might be 30 - 40 days before my transfer was completed.? (I did consider that Mark is putting more emphasis and resources on downloading content right now, with the timeline for the upload process being less critical.? If the demand for downloading slows with fewer new transfer requests, then perhaps the uploading can move more quickly, and the queue will move more quickly.) |

Check the status of your transfer.? If the invitation has been received, just wait.

Um. If I wanted a narrow window, I'd have a narrow window. Why would I want whitespace on either side? You read your way, I read mine. That's the point of resizable windows, eh? Text should reflow.

It's not "normal" to force narrow columns. -----Original Message-----
From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Shal Farley Sent: Monday, October 28, 2019 2:06 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [GMF] Narrow formatting in Digests? Phil, > Ah, so you mean via Gmail or equivalent¡ªinteresting. I read in Thunderbird, and your example looks normal to me as well. I think the confusion here is that what you're calling "silly narrow columns" is in fact exactly what the rest of us are calling normal. That's based on your screenshot of the top of a digest: it looks normal. The only thing unusual is the large window size you are displaying it in. Yes, the scroll bar is out at the edge of the window, as it should be. I've never used a WebTV, but sizer tells me that a minimum appropriate window width for reading a digest is 820 pixels. Wider than that leaves grey boarders of increasing width to either side. To me, this seems like a normal, comfortable, reading width. Going wider would make it more difficult for the eye to scan the lines, significantly slowing (my) reading comprehension speed.
