Re: Narrow formatting in Digests?

Um. If I wanted a narrow window, I'd have a narrow window. Why would I want whitespace on either side? You read your way, I read mine. That's the point of resizable windows, eh? Text should reflow.

It's not "normal" to force narrow columns.

Phil,

I read in Thunderbird, and your example looks normal to me as well.

I think the confusion here is that what you're calling "silly narrow
columns" is in fact exactly what the rest of us are calling normal.

That's based on your screenshot of the top of a digest: it looks normal.
The only thing unusual is the large window size you are displaying it
in. Yes, the scroll bar is out at the edge of the window, as it should be.

I've never used a WebTV, but sizer tells me that a minimum appropriate
window width for reading a digest is 820 pixels. Wider than that leaves
grey boarders of increasing width to either side.

To me, this seems like a normal, comfortable, reading width. Going wider
would make it more difficult for the eye to scan the lines,
significantly slowing (my) reading comprehension speed.
