Re: Download members list

If there are others having this issue, this is what I did (I'm using a really old version of Firefox 48.0.2 with an iMac):

1.? Go to Members section on left panel.
2.? On the blue button on top, toggle to choose Members.
3.? Click Download.? A new screen appears with a list of the members in a not-so-friendly format.
4.? Right click on that page and choose Save Page As... and click save.
5.? This saves as a .CSV file and you can open it directly and it'll open via Excel and the columns are already separated out.
6.? You can save it as .xlsx after opening.

I hope this helped.

What's displayed on the screen is actually the csv information, so it just needs to be saved as text.? Once the information is on the screen, I right-click, select Save Page As..., make sure the Type selected is Text Document, and save it with the CSV extension.

Re: Can we disable 'Likes'? #featurerequest

If I read posts on line, I'd have just hit "like" -- what's wrong with giving people the choice between just agreeing with an opinion (and less clutter) or contributing to it (because they actually have a new idea)?

I like the "Like" button (or replying with "+1").
It allows me to show I'm in favor of an idea, without sending another tediously redundant 'me too' post that contributes no new information.

Martin,

I imagine the support group also mentioned to you some recovery codes you can generate and print (or whatever method you wish to save) to recover your account just in case of a situation like this.? I use lastpass password manager and save the codes in the note section.? I highly suggest you use Lastpass and secure that with a Yubikey from Yubico.? I am not associated with that company at all.

Re: Migrated from Yahoo, how to best stop old group posts?

As part of their ongoing plan to chase everyone away, it appears that Yahoo has eliminated the automatic email feature along with the ability to moderate posts.

And nope, you can't set individual members to moderated--posting moderation has gone away also. After all, that would require them to save the posts until sent out. Your only current posting options now are Individual Emails or NoMail. When they say "no user-created content," they mean none at all, period. Not shutting down, just not providing services anymore...

Save a picture from PHOTOS

Trying to write instructions for a Member as to how to save a picture from the Group's PHOTOS section......

To ¡°Save pictures FROM the Group TO your computer.

1-Go to the Group Home page.

/g/SparrevohnSurvivors

2-Click on Photos on the Group Menu¡(on computers it¡¯s down the left side of the screen, on phones you have to manipulate the selections at the bottom of the screen).

3-Scroll to the Album of your interest and Left-click on it.

4-Scroll to the individual Photo of your interest and Left-click on it.

5-Scroll to the bottom of the screen and Left-click on the DOWNLOAD button.

At this point, the screen expands the picture to a larger view and offers no downloading option........works or don't work this way in three groups, (one paid and two free), and in one actually switches to different picture......is something wrong or am I doing it wrong?

Tks,
Chuck

The wiki editor and the online message editor are very similar. Fiddle around with it and I'm sure you'll figure it out.

Thanks for that suggestion Bruce. It maybe will mollify my members missing the image on the messages page.

I haven't used Wiki pages yet and so am not fully clear how it all works. In any event we do change our Masthead Photo every so often, so hopefully changing out the photo on that Wiki page will be simple to do. But if it is easy to change just the photo in that Wiki page it sounds like a go.

Comments.... Suggestions?

Use an image editor to resize/crop it. The narrower it is top-to-bottom, the better...too many pixels in the vertical dimension and the bottom will be cut off.

Re: #featurerequest Request for Cover Image caption #featurerequest

Bruce,?
Following your idea, I already have a sticky wiki with text.? If I just edit the wiki page at
by adding a photo and allow text as a caption that shoukd work to make ny text more interesting and noticeable.? Is tgere a way I can make the photo smaller and use less space at the top of my pages?

Re: #featurerequest Request for Cover Image caption #featurerequest

perhaps instead of having the cover photo as a banner on every page and taking up so much space on our message page, we could have our group icon show at the top of the menu sidebar on every page.? Just the upper left corner, out of tge way of the messages. It would help personalize the group and make our group icon more visible.? ?
I have the sticky wiki page at the top of one of my groups as a banner,. Presently it is only a text statement of our mission statement, but using Bruce's suggestion, I may add the text to a photo and use that as the sticky wiki banner at the top of the pages.

Be aware that a photo or banner at the top of the page takes up space on the message page, so you may be scrolling more and turning pages more because of having it.

I have looked in my spam filter.

I looked at the MX record for jim-ratliff.name, and it looks like you're
using FastMail. Check your Backscatter spam settings [1]. If it's set to
discard, then the moderations messages aren't making it to you. The way that
sends messages needing moderator approval triggers FastMail's
backscatter filter, which is separate from it's spam filter.

If you've been getting a bunch of backscatter spam and don't want to change
the setting from discard, you can use a bit of custom Sieve code (under
Rules in settings) [2] to move the moderation messages before the
backscatter discard rule kicks in.

Put something like this before the "3. Sieve generated for spam protection"
section.

# -- begin Sieve code --

# moderation messages get identified as backscatter by FastMail.
# This runs before the backscatter rule and stops processing, so they end up
# in the right folder.
if allof(
?????address :is ["from"] ["[email protected]"]
???, header :matches :comparator "i;ascii-casemap" ["Subject"] ["Message Approval Needed*"]
??) {
???# Adjust this folder path as needed.
???fileinto "INBOX.Lists.Mod";
???stop;
}

# -- end Sieve code --

The wiki editor will force you to enter some text, but if you simply flank the image with a couple of periods that seems to satisfy the save dialog and doesn't look too objectionable.

Mike,

We copied the image.? Went into MS-PAINT (or image editor), picked a font and entered the text.? Located the text to look nice.? Saved the JPG.? Uploaded the image.? Sure, it's different than the way YG did it, but still gets the job done.

Re: #featurerequest Request for Cover Image caption #featurerequest

To add to Mike's thoughts about captioning the photo on the Home Page (which I believe would be a useful option to have) I would like to report that a number of members on my group when we moved from Y!G to GIO complained about no longer seeing the Masthead Photo on the Message page (which was the case on YGroups).

I've been wondering whether it would be possible or practical to have an option to also show our Home Page (Masthead) photo at the top of the Message page. Would seem to be a reasonably simple thing to do. Don't know how practical is its though from a programming standpont.

It would be interesting to hear other GMF members' thoughts about this.

Just curious . . .
