Re: Are scammers attempting to join our group?

These bots do not post advertisements immediately -- they wait weeks or even months before they strike. These are long-term thinking spammers. Although there the risk that some of these might be real users trying to join and not being able to overcome some barrier, I think that after you've sent them one or two private messages asking them if they want to join the group (and why) and they don't respond, you can safely delete the requests. John,
My group was moved here from Yahoo 2 years ago.? I get almost the same amount of persons who respond to either a pending member message or after they have not replied to that message, the one I send letting them know if they do not respond in 14 days they will
have to start over.
I do not know if persons do not pay attention or lose interest or what is happening.??

Consider turning on reply moderation for new users (only), admit one, and see what happens. Of course, if your group site contains information that outsiders shouldn't see, that's a problem.

You might actually be able to head off some of these requests by making your message archives public, but it's too late to do that now (the decision is one-way). Generally speaking it seems unlikely that anything is seriously broken. Regards, Bruce |

Thank you Bruce, Our Group is: [email protected]MAGANAK (Tagalog for family) is a private mailing list for discussion of Filipino/Non-Filipino relationships. We are not doing anything to advertise.? I don't believe they can see the archives until they are approved.? I thought these people might be bad actors or possibly just not technically proficient.? Only one of these had an email address that had been having difficulties receiving email that I had found searching the forum such as RR was having trouble for awhile and I remember a couple of others that I had never heard of were marking as spam for some reason.? But I think that had been straightened out.? For now I suppose I can only assume these were bad actors and maybe some percentage of technical proficiency.? The process does work and we have so many more options here than we had before the move. John

Re: Reply to Sender
#featurerequest
Jim, When we use the "Reply to Sender" feature at the bottom of the emails that we receive, the original email is not included automatically so we have to restate the reason we are doing the reply. That's true. Because those are mailto: links that open a new outbound message in your email interface. Unfortunately most email interfaces don't support the inclusion of a body quote in such a link so Groups.io does not attempt to do so. To get what you want your other option is to use the View/Reply Online link and use the Quote Whole Post button while composing your reply online. It would be nice if we could click on Reply to Sender and have the original email included in the reply.? That way, in many cases, we could simply say, "In response to your email below the answer is........". Thank you, Jim |
