On the Settings page for the group, scroll down to the Spam Control area.? You'll see that the "Announcement Group" box is checked.? Uncheck that and choose one of the other options, then scroll to the bottom and click Update Group.

If the attachments are of value, and you don't mind some extra work, you may be able to get them back if you have copies of them.? It won't be as smooth, but at least they'll be there.? Upload the attachments into the Files section, then go to each message that had an attachment and edit it to include a link to the proper file.

Thanks.? I deleted the old yahoogroups address from my Contacts, and typed our address into my email.? I sent a test message and did find a notation under Activity:

ActivityCreated?
Member?Karen <kpeteros@...>?attempted to send message "test" to an announcement group via email
I don't k now what "an announcement group" means.? Any recommendations to help me get messages through?

Thanks for any help you can offer!

Could you tell us the name of your group and the e-mail address that you
were trying to send a message to?

If you go to your group in the browser and go Admin > Activity, do you
see anything that indicates that your test message was received?

Re: Still possible to get Yahoo Transfer of Message Archive? #yahoo #transfer

Thank you, this has all been done, promptly and correctly by the friendly service at groups.io.support.

I am very grateful.

The only omission is that message attachments cannot be restored, as everyone knows.

I recommend the import service. Our members are very grateful, almost lost their 20 year database of messages at Yahoo.

Case closed.

"Easy Transfer" is no longer available, in that it was a "service" that included fully everything: migrating messages, users, files, photos, etc.

However, following on what Duane directed you to look at, groups.io does provide a service to import ONLY the messages in a nicely formatted, searchable, threaded result.? If you can request (before they end it) the "get my data" request with Yahoo, you will get a zip file that contains all the messages from the legacy group in an "MBOX" format.? You can provide that (through FTP, dropbox, whatever) to groups.io support, and they can import the messages.?

NOTE:? This is only available to groups with Premium (and higher) paid support. You would send a request to [email protected]?to begin the process.? If you intend doing this DO NOT DELAY in making the "get my data" request from Yahoo!??

If you'd like to see what the results can look like, go here:??
That is a subgroup of our main group created to hold the legacy archive of Yahoo messages, since we had some delay in getting access to the Yahoo group owner, and thus the groups.io main group had a fair amount of topic traffic before we could get the import done.? So we put it into a subgroup to prevent combining it all.? Theoretically I suppose you could import it into your existing group, but I don't know how it would appear.? I know the DATES get loaded properly from the legacy messages, but the MESSAGE NUMBERS can only increment... so you could end up with higher message numbers on older messages.? Not sure how much negative effect that might cause, if any.

Re: #Ban, desperate, PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

Can you just send her an email and tell her she's not welcome in your group, you will continue to remove her and ban her, it's a waste of everyone's time so just stop. The pending approval suggestion is good so you can just reject her right away.? That way you know it's her before you let her in.? The last option would be to put all new members on moderate, and when she shows herself, ban her before her post can hit the group.

I don't think it's worth getting upset over, it's aggravating for sure, but not a reason to avoid your group.? Eventually, she'll catch on and go drive someone else crazy.

Re: Geographic blocking may sometimes stop groups.io emails as spam. #email #spam

I did a deep dive on the origins of the .io TLD.
Very interesting what happened.
Even though the British had a big role in things way back,
it is basically not used by "only" one country...
(Or JUST those Islands.)
The filtering method used is bogus...

Yes, io is a top-level domain for the "British Indian Ocean Territory," which may at one time have included Hong Kong. If a receiving provider uses very crude geographic filtering (tld instead of IP address), it could be a problem, and the subscriber needs to find a provider that doesn't.

Personally, I consider groups.io to be a global community...no one is a "foreigner." In that context the filtering of messages on such a basis seems rather absurd.

Re: Geographic blocking may sometimes stop groups.io emails as spam. #email #spam

Bruce,

Mimecast is not a "crude" provider of anti-spam/virus filtering. It's one of the industry best.

Regardless of your perspective of the mission of groups.io, you have to respect the needs of every organization to implement protections against malicious email.? Fully 4 out of 5 of all emails on the internet are garbage - any organization NOT implementing protections against that is what I'd characterize as "absurd".

My message was posted as a bit of a "PSA" to help moderators who may be seeing bounced emails due to anti-spam filtering such as this (particularly when they're interacting with people who are using their professional/business email when the group membership is relevant to their professional responsibilities), so as to help them understand that in many cases it will require a collaborative effect, involving the recipient's IT support, to resolve undeliverables.? It's easy to blame groups.io when something doesn't deliver... as someone who has performed systems administration for email systems for decades, I can say that it's FAR more often that email delivery problems are the result of issues on the recipient's side, than it is a result of issues on the sender's side.

I really enjoy the fact that the groups.io platform exposes the errors encountered when bounces occur... it gives me the information needed to take it to the next step.

Bryan

Jackie --?You could download them using the Export Group Data function and then re-upload them en masse to the desired destination. However, this will lose photo "ownership," upload date/timestamp, etc (it will be reassigned to whoever does the upload, when it was done, etc). The only way to move them while retaining this metadata is to do so one at a time.?

By combining monthly albums into one you are already compromising album ownership, so perhaps such considerations are unimportant. If not, go for it.

Re: What are the issues we may face with Direct Adding members? #direct

To clarify, do you mean by bulk transfer, a CSV file of subscribers to send an invite to?

Or using the paid for option which I cannot comment on as I haven't used it

If the former, yes it does

Its a very good system

If anyone is already subscribed, it does not send to them

After sending at the top of the invites page is a summary of how many were sent and how many weren't and the reason

At any point after the sending you can select "sent invitations"

Which tells you who were sent invites and when, and their status

Status could be Sent, Accepted , Failed

You can select any not Accepted and repeat the invite, or for failed you can remove them

An excellent system IMHO

Ah I see you have the answer on bulk transfer

Yes, both Invite and Direct Add will skip over any addresses that are already in the Member List.

Have these people CC you at your home address next time so you can check for proper addressing. If they haven't updated their address book, most likely they are still sending messages to @yahoogroups.com instead of @groups.io

Seems there is a problem on the "other end"...

For an "alternate" and other reasons, I keep a Gmail address
waiting in the wings that I can use when things get flaky.
(Or so that/they can store my "archive"s off-site.)

Might be a "workaround"?

If no one can post, other than owner/mod, you may have the group set to Announcement Only.? If it's only some, check a few member records to make sure they're allowed to post.

No.? That's an advisory notice.? If you're online and someone else has claimed a member (or email), you can go ahead and override it by completing your action (approve, reject, etc.)

Tony,

One possible scenario would be that the members are using a different email address than what they were registered for in Yahoo groups.

If so, you can look in Admin / Activity for "Non-member message" activities.?The results would look like this:

Non-member support@... attempted to send message "Your account has been temporary suspended." via email

Re: #Ban, desperate, PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

No, you cannot ban names.

But you can create a "pending subscription" notice in your settings that requires a response in order to be approved. In my group this notice asks for a name and address (we're a residents-only group), and the moderators do not approve a subscription request unless someone responds to that notice.
