Sometimes people will have responded to the initial post with errors (or maybe insults?) either making their post meaningless or confusing if the original post they are responding to is no longer

wouldn't want that. The post in question would just be noted as edited. A user could dig back if they wanted, but a typical person reading the thread wouldn't be bothered by all the earlier duplicate
