Despite what it says in the Help, people are not unsubbed from their groups for bouncing emails. Instead, they are put in Bounced status and groups.io stops trying to contact them.

Yep, me too. All mail providers that use Synacor for authentication purposes ended up blocking groups.io's IP address for 24 hours. It should be resolved now.
