Just something I find helpful is to change the subject line as I have done above.? This thread in particular has wandered quite far from when I first commented on it.

Re: Poll Problem

Duane,

?

I remembered from my YG days making polls, if I changed anything with a poll it would all change, so I was careful to not touch the poll once I made it. The only change I made was to my personal profile, but that shouldn’t have anything to do with the poll. I noticed my poll only showed 10 respondents per page, but I didn’t mess with trying to change that after the poll was made.

Did you by any chance change the "Items Per Page" setting on your account?? The default is 20, but by changing it to 50 or higher you can see a lot more on one page.

Re: Counting emails was Re: [GMF] In Process? AND vailidty of policy change

Ilene --?

I haven't been here all that long compared to some folks, but this is the first time I've ever heard of a group being transferred that had NONE of the messages come over.

I suggest going back to the transfer page and checking:

-- Whether your source and target group names are correct, and
-- Ensuring that you didn't inadvertently make the selection that the message archive should not be transferred.

It's entirely possible that the transfer agent made a mistake, but I don't want to leave this issue hanging while other group owners are expecting better performance for their own transfers.

Bruce

Re: Photo resizing, new thought

The only way I'm aware of is to download them, resize them, delete the original, and upload again.? The photo will then belong to the person that resized it though.

Photo resizing, new thought

Mike Conder

?When we transferred our group, the owners didn't want to pay for the 10 GB so we transferred the old Yahoo photos at 1024x1024 (or whatever the correct size is) but new email posts and photos can be larger. ?It will take a while for the photos to get close to the 1 GB limit. ?But if it does happen soon, is there a way to resize photos that are posted directly to our .io group after the fact?

Thank you Shal, Perfect!

Selecting that option took care of it.

Much appreciated.

Poll Problem

开云体育

I made a poll on May 25th that built up to two pages of respondents, but today I see there is only one page of respondents. I’ve logged out and back in again and cleared cache, but the poll looks the same. Any ideas of what happened to the missing page?

Re: Making Subgroups

Marie,

If I make a subgroup in one of my groups, will all of the people in my
group and the subgroup, receive email from both groups?
Everyone who is a member of both the primary and the subgroup will receive messages from both the primary and the subgroup. Subject to their subscription settings (which are separate - they can be digest in one and individual in the other).

Note that no one can be a member of the subgroup without also being a member of the primary group - that's the meaning of subgroup here: each subgroup is a subset of the primary membership.

Note also that when you create the subgroup no one will be automatically made a member of it - you'll have to add primary group members to the subgroup, and/or allow them to join on their own.

Re: A deep dive into the message footers

A follow-up...

I wrote:

message footers.
In the course of writing that I encountered a number of "quirks" about the footers. I made note of these, intending to post them to beta. Please have a look at them, and at the page, and help make my quirk/bug list better and more complete before it goes to beta:

o Formatted Digest View/Reply Online link opens a Reply composition box. The View/Reply in individual messages just navigates to the message.

I'm not sure if that leads to an excess of abandoned drafts - maybe the system doesn't store the draft if the user doesn't type into the Reply composition box.

o Formatted Digest View/Reply link is followed by a count of the messages in that topic. Which seems out of place; in an individual message it is followed by the message number.

o Formatted Digest footer has the word "group" included in the linkified text, along with the group's posting address. It seems like the link should only include the address, as elsewhere.

o Formatted Digest header has the group's posting address link to the group's Messages section, in Messages view, whereas the footer has it link to the group home page. I think they should both be the group home page.

o Formatted Digest has no ToS link.

o Formatted individual footers have no automatic separators surrounding the group-specific addition. Compare to the plain-text footers. I think perhaps a short horizontal rule is in order. Say <hr style="width:10%">. Or maybe just an indent, to save vertical space

A deep dive into the message footers

Earlier, I wrote:

> CHANGE: Condensed HTML message footers.

That reminds me I have a Wiki page I need to finish...
So I let that reminder push me to flesh out the descriptions of the message footers. It was quite a while ago that someone was asking about them and I set about to answer. Apologies for the delay.
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Footers

Those with an interest in the topic please have a look at it and correct any typos, errors, and omissions; or other problems you find with it.

I've linked to this from the Quick-Start section of the Wiki home page, on the theory that it will help our group members use the features in the messages they receive.

Making Subgroups

Marie Alline

I have a question about making subgroups. If I make a subgroup in one of my groups, will all of the people in my group and the subgroup, receive email from both groups?

Thanks for any help or advice for this.

Re: Need advice on which moderator permissions to set. . . #moderation

Paul,

Now my question: One of our moderators says he cannot see the Direct
Add button under the Admin button when expanded. All he says he can
see are the following four: Pending / Members / Subgroups /
Activity
...
All his MODERATOR PERMISSIONS ARE checked EXCEPT these five:
Manage Subgroups
Add or Modify Integrations
Modify Group Settings
Billing
Set Moderator Privileges
I can't reproduce this in my group. In my group the Invite Members permission correctly controls these two (Invite and Direct Add).

If you're certain that you've checked Invite Members for this mod, and saved that (blue Save button at the very bottom), make certain that the mod has refreshed their page at groups.io. I don't think logging out and back in again is needed, just F5 or Ctrl+F5 refresh should do it.

If the problem still persists you may need to contact [email protected] to resolve it.

Re: How to Transfer a Yahoo Group, but Reduce the Photos Section #howtoguide

Edited

Patty,

Second question: I think I have a very small handful of of Yahoo
Groups list members who went over and signed up for our inactive,
placeholder Groups.IO mirror group. Will that pose an issue when we
transfer from Yahoo Groups to Groups.IO?
If they joined the Groups.io group with a different email address than is listed in the Y!group those won't be recognized as the same person; which will result in them having two Groups.io subscriptions - which may cause them some confusion. That used to be a bigger problem, but now I think they can resolve this after the fact by merging those two Groups.io accounts.

Otherwise the only downside is that any address already present in the Groups.io Members list will be skipped when copying in Memberships from the Y!Groups. So those particular members will not have their subscription info (date joined, email delivery, posting privilege) copied over from the Y!Group. They've probably already adjusted their delivery setting the way they want, but you may want to double-check their posting privilege if any of them are troublemakers.

And, what about members who have signed up for Groups.IO that are NOT
Yahoo Groups members? I assume their memberships will remain as is.
Correct.

If you have time, you could grab a few of the photos to see which of the available settings would work best for your group.? On ours, 312x312 is fine since we really don't need much detail.? As a torture test, I uploaded a 10MB photo and it was reduced to 172KB.? Most end up around 50-100KB.? If it's an art group, you may not want to reduce them though.

Yes, I received the notice and I thought it said that messages had been moved.? But I am not going to dwell on it as messages for this group isn't important as it is a quick siggy tagging group and all are outdated anyway.

It was just something I brought up to consider if I decided to move my other groups.

At the completion of the transfer you would have been sent a notice
telling you what transferred and what didn't. Have you received that?
And if so what did it say about messages?

Thanks Shal and Dano.? I suspect I may do a combination of suggestions - resize and possibly delete the very oldest.? Need to keep room for new photos.? My largest group's Photos section alone is 2 GB's.?
