Re: Diferent 'status/privileges' based upon how a group is accessed?

Jim,

Are you sure that you only have one groupsio account? That might explain the situation.

I've been taught that when there is something strange going on in a browser to "clear your cache and cookies". However, clearing cookies usually means having to do a bunch of stuff over again, so before doing that,?I would suggest that you try logging out of groupsio. Then try one of the methods and log back in. Now, try the other method and see if you have consistency.

If that didn't work, then I'd try the clearing cache & cookies route.?

Joining in subgroup without waiting for approving parent group #membership #subgroups #suggestion

When user wants to join tio subgroup he is instructed he has to join parent group first. If parent group requires approving that means he has to join parent, wait to be approved, then join subgroup and again wait to be approved.
This leads to people giving up joining groups for too much hassle.
it would be good, it user want so join subgroup he is instructed that it means he will be also join parent group and then do all process in single iteration. After all use cannot avoid joining parent group to, so why wasting his time in double process?

Re: Subgroups & Posting

Sharon,

So if I check non-subscribers can post in the subgroup, I know the main group members can post. Anyone else?

Everyone else. But at least all their posts will be moderated.

I want members of the main group to be able to post to subgroups even if they are not subscribed to receive messages from the subgroup. For example forwarding a message to a team they may not be on. But I don¡¯t want the general public to be able to post.

That feature doesn't exist (yet). See also .

Re: Unsubscribing or Unsubscribed Members after Transfer . . . #membership

Bruce, Duane,

Thanx for your clarifications. That's what I needed to know. As I become more familiar with the workings of Groups.io I'll become less of a pesky questioner.

I'm also on-board with not conacting/inviting the unsubscribed masses; if they want to come back they'll whine at our Mods, fer sure! Otherwise let sleeping dogs lie.

Cheers!

Re: Unsubscribing or Unsubscribed Members after Transfer . . . #membership

I agree with Duane. If the email address isn't valid, it will show up as bouncing, not unsubscribed, as soon as a few messages go out. Look for a B badge in the member's list. And you'll probably get a lot of them, too.

Transferring our group was a good opportunity to purge (or self-purge) people who simply were not participating. You can try to send them new invitations, or contact them individually, if you want. But experience has shown that most of those who leave now should have unsubbed from your Yahoo group a long time ago.

Re: Unsubscribing or Unsubscribed Members after Transfer . . . #membership

It's assumed that if a member got transferred (not bouncing on Y!), it was a valid email address, so no confirmation was needed.? If it's not and causes bouncing, that won't cause them to be unsubscribed, only an indication on their membership.? I'd say if they've unsubscribed, it was their doing.

Not currently.? There was some discussion on the beta group some time back about having an ignore function, but I'm not sure if it's even on the possibilities list, let alone the TODO list.

Unsubscribing or Unsubscribed Members after Transfer . . . #membership

Shal, Bruce,

How can we tell the difference between email alerts about Unsubscribing or Unsubscribed Members which tend to start proliferating right after a Transfer? That is, more specifically, to mean:

1] those who choose to Unsubsubscribe of their own volition VS

2] those who are Unsubacribed because their email is no longer valid.

Is the text of those email notifications for these two different scenarios in any way different? (I cannot see a difference.)

I ask because we have already received a couple hundred emails saying a member has left our group and we cannot tell for which reason.

However those two kinds listed above [1,2] are not to be confused with some of the emails saying the member has likely been unsubscribed due to deleting an IO email marked as spam; those emails have a distinct text.

Any light you can shed on this will be appreciated.

Cheers!

Re: Counting emails was Re: [GMF] In Process? AND vailidty of policy change

Personally we at CostaRicaLiving are more than satisfied that we coughed up the moolah for the annual PREMIUM subscription.

We had well over the 100K messages needing to be transferred ¨Ca hair over 176,000, to be more precise¨C yet the transfer was accomplished 'host paste' if you'll pardon the expresion, and began almost immediately after we made our initial transfer request..

But more than that any of the above, the extra tools & functions available with the Premium upgrade are looking to be going to be huge time-savers for Moderating our group.

So I say, "Hail, Mark & "Thanxaheap!!".

Cheers!

Muting a member

Is there a way for one member to mute another member?

Re: Muting

If you are trying to discourage your group from pursuing a topic, as owner (and moderator?) you can change a topic to ¡°moderate¡± using the arrow on the message on the group site.

You can also have threads expire. See settings.

If you do manage to mute a topic online, that won't make it disappear from the message archive.

Muting only affects email delivery. It's on that basis I believe you will only find a "mute this topic" link in incoming emails. If desired, you can subsequently unmute them using the page Duane mentioned earlier in this thread.

Hope this helps,
