Re: Invitations to subgroups
Bruce,
I¡¯m curious if there is a way to tailor invitations to sub-groups soYou can only invite people to the primary group. Once someone is a member of the primary group, each subgroup's setting applies as to whether a member of the primary group can see the subgroup, and whether members of the primary group can join the subgroup without restriction. it appears that the only way to allow membership to a subset ofUsing the checkboxes does not restrict a primary group member from attempting to join any subgroup, only restricting the subgroup's membership does that. As best I can tell, other then requiring approval to join andSort-of. Requiring approval to join is the only way to keep primary group members from joining a given subgroup. There is no way I know of to invite a person, primary group member or not, directly to a subgroup. Membership in one subgroup does not imply any special access to or ability to join another subgroup. Re: Hiding the number of members on home page
John,
Is it possible, either by itself or hiding Group Information - atNot that I know of. You could drop that in the groups.io suggestion box: Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |
Re: #suggestion - Add address field to profile

Chris V
What would be even better is the ability to add your own extra fields and if these could be available to users when they join a group.
Our group are all members of a national (UK) association and we have to check their membership number and address. So if we could add membership number and postcode(zip) as extra fields . Users could then supply these when they request to join. At the moment we have to send them an automatic email to ask them for this information. Chris |
Re: Question about chat capabilities of groups.io
Michael,
Are these chats publically viewable? No, that is not even an available option. Subscribers can read and participate in chats, they can start new chats if that's allowed by the group's Chats setting, in the Features section of the group's Settings page. How long is the wait?
Prasad Agrahar
I have initiated the Easy Yahoo Group Transfer and have been waiting for a few days. When I check for the status of the transfer I see a message "We've received the invite to your group and will accept it soon. There is no need to send another invite".??I have been waiting for many days now. Any idea how long is the backlog???

Re: Is there some setting to disable the QUOTE FUNCTION when making a reply? . . .
#suggestion
Paul,
So... Is there a setting on Groups.io which disables the quoteAs Duane and Bruce mentioned, this is usually an issue with members who reply by email. There isn't a relevant setting fro the group, but here's what Groups.io does generally: o In replies forwarded to members receiving individual messages, nothing. The quoted matter is passed through. o In replies forwarded to members receiving digests the trailing quoted matter is removed. In some cases quoted matter may not be recognized if the replying member's email interface uses an unconventional marking for quoted material; if you have a frequent case where this happens you can ask support to look into it. In rare cases a top-quote can cause the entire reply to disappear. o In replies shown in the group's messages section the trailing quoted matter is hidden under an ellipsis button [...] that can be clicked to show it. As with the Digest case the detection isn't always perfect. Having an option like that would save our moderators a lot of timeIf your primary motive for rejecting the piggybacking was the effect it has on Y!group digests (extensive bottom quotes making them nearly unreadable) then you may be able to relax the requirement in Groups.io. Members who receive individual messages in email are usually more tolerant of extensive bottom-quotes. In this group I'm still pretty much a stickler for removing excess quotes, especially more than the first message in a reply. But I can't necessarily defend that moderation style on practical grounds. Just a feeling that everyone benefits from keeping things concise and relevant. Re: Just Joined [Yahoo Group transfer]
Kim,
I have requested twice for the Groups.io to join my Yahoo Group toThat depends on what other steps you've taken. If you haven't followed the steps in the instructions then nothing happens merely as a result of inviting the transfer agent to your Y!group. /yahootransfer See the many other threads on the subject in this group's Messages section, and especially see our web page for additional tips: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Transfer-from-Yahoo-Groups As of about a week and a half ago there was a two-week backlog of groups to transfer. I haven't heard any more up-to-date status, so I don't know if that backlog is growing or shrinking. Re: user cannot create a photo album but owner can
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýJerome,I've re-checked it all and everything 'appears' to be correct: ? My user is logged in and the album is set for group access and updated. You didn't mention checking the group setting, so I'm not sure if you included that in "re-checked it all": Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |
Bertrand,
The current group is linked to a database which refers to the yahooAs Bruce implied, you're in a tough spot here because there will only be piecewise correlation between the numbering from the Y!Group and in the Groups.io group. If you're a moderator you can use "View Source" in the More menu to see the header of the message. Groups.io added one at the top to identify the corresponding Yahoo Group message number: X-Yahoo-Msgnum: With enough tedious effort you could use that info to find and record the endpoints of each segment that has the same offset (the offset should be monotonically increasing. It may not be too arduous if members and mods seldom deleted any messages in the Yahoo Group. Of course updating your database would be another effort. Hmm, I wonder if the transfer agent could be improved to include that table of segments in the transfer results notice. That might be a reasonable request to make in the beta group: With the right kind of programming skills one might be able to create a script to go read them all and produce a correspondence table, or a list of the segments (as above). Or, the fact that data is available leads to a different request you could make on beta@ - a means to search and/or sort by Y!Group number. Re: Replace Moderator
¿ªÔÆÌåÓý¡°Files and photos can be moved manually by the members who had added them. They can also be moved by you but will get listed under your profile.¡± ? I did the same thing as you, and the ownership of the files changed to me also, since I was the one that uploaded them to our new groups.io group. So that the original creators of the files got their credit for the files I uploaded, I added their name to the description of each file that I could find an owner of. An example would be ¡°Ahoy For Projects by David & Carol Sibley¡±. ? Photos was a different story, since our members can make their own Photo Albums. For the most part albums made by past members that were not current members of the new site, were either assigned to the owner of the group (Me), or had no ownership at all, but as the group owner I could still control the album. There were a few albums, where the owners of the albums transferred to the new group, but lost ownership of their albums in the new group. In those cases the album owners had to download all they wanted out of their album, then make a new album to upload their things into, after I deleted their old album. It was done that way, so the naming convention of the albums stayed in alphabetical order. I still have members that have albums they never took ownership of to date (They¡¯ve been alerted to this situation a couple of times), so I imagine when they finally get around to wanting to do something with their albums they¡¯ll be notifying me of their problem. ?
