Re: size limit ?
Bonnie :-)
开云体育Bruce, please understand I am not trying to push a limit but am wanting to help my members not to cause a bounce.
And another reason is that a member of my group sent a post to our IO group & to our old y'g group. The y'g post had music in it but the same message that came thru the IO group did not have the music so I thought maybe it had possible gotten stripped out. Bonnie

The other key failing of Groups.io's Activity log is that the Search feature here does not do partial matches - e.g. you must search for the entire email address For an email address, you must include everything before the @, or the name plus the @, or the entire thing.? I agree it would be better if it could do an even less extensive partial though. Re: question about the feature "activity"
开云体育Shal, Duane, Chris, Bob, ? I think I will bring this up in Beta. I really miss this feature of seeing all the activities concerning the membership of a person or various persons (and nothing else but their membership). After the transfer this was and still is an extremely important feature for me in yg because I can find out quickly the date when a person joined or left the group and – very important – changed their email address. It makes it a lot easier to identify members. ? I still have the old group, and the activity log there is really helpful. But this of course only concerns members before the transfer, and now a new age has begun. So hopefully Mark can do this for groups.io as well… ? Thanks for answering! Greetings Victoria ? ? |
Re: Accuracy of Yahoo Member List Export?
#addmembers
John,
I'm still curious why the "First Name" and "Last Name" fields shown inThat's interesting. I don't know, maybe the UI is looking those up from some other table based on one of the fields that is there. I had never cleared "bouncing" members from the Y! group, so I didThat was unnecessary work on your part. The transfer agent skips bouncers anyway. If that will create any kind of an issue during the "easy transfer" ofThe only issue I'm aware of is that any content "owned" by them (any subscription email address not in the Groups.io group at the time of the transfer, or copied in with it) will end up attributed to you, the logged in address that initiated the transfer. Direct Adding them before the transfer would "fix" that, but it isn't clear to me that it would be worth the effort. Also, Kudos for making server responses for email non-deliveryKudos go to Groups.io, and specifically to Mark Fletcher. He doesn't read this group. If Groups.io had any other employees (which is bound to be true at some point) I don't know if any of them would read GMF. Probably not until there's someone dedicated to a support role. Re: Display Name Locked - Bug or Feature?
#display-name
Mike,
It may be by design but why not restrict the same to the openI'm not seeing any inconsistency. The member or mod can edit a member's Display Name in the primary group, but not in any subgroups. This appears to be true regardless of whether the subgroups have open or restricted membership. Re: question about the feature "activity"
开云体育Chris,On a related point which of the drop - down list is "Posted Message"? For messages that didn't require moderation there's Accepted message, for those that did there's Moderated message. So you may have to search two actions. Oh, and maybe Edited message and Edited message without sending to the group. And of course there's all of the error cases for messages that weren't accepted. At least for this there's the Message Activity tab to gather all of those. But that leaves out the disposition of a Moderated message - for that you must turn to the Moderator Activity or All Activity tab to find Approved pending message, Deleted pending message, and Rejected pending message. Interesting, there does not appear to be an Edited pending message. Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |

Re: question about the feature "activity"
Victoria,
I also miss the Membership tab. It gathered in one list all the actions that affect a person's membership, without being cluttered with message or feature related actions: In Groups.io you can only do this one member at a time, as Duane described. That one's a common enough use case that I think it merits its own tab. But there are other cases where you want to find all activity related to X, but instead you have to search the handful to dozens of individual actions related to X. For example, try to find out what's happened lately in the wiki (beta ). The other key failing of Groups.io's Activity log is that the Search feature here does not do partial matches - e.g. you must search for the entire email address, not just part of it. Re: question about the feature "activity"
开云体育Just checked mine, that looks true for Member Activities.? For Message Activity, all the archived messages (messages posted previous to the transfer) have a date of the transfer date.? For Moderator Activities, it starts when I created the group in IO. Barb ?

Re: owner getting every message posted
Peter,
I see that messages intended for the owner or moderator come toRegular group messages could also be sent to [email protected] - for the primary group (only) the two forms are synonyms. So I assume that when my account is set to digest I should stillCorrect. Your subscription's Email Delivery setting controls only group postings, not +owner messages or other notifications. Yet the latter is still happening.Be aware that you have a separate subscription page for each subgroup - selecting Digest in the primary group won't affect group postings in subgroups. I don't recall that you mentioned whether or not you are also getting a digest for the primary group. Is there a limit to how large a message can be & still go thru a groups.io group? If you want a message to reach everyone in the group (and that's kinda the point, isn't it?), it has to comply with the requirements of all intermediate mail servers. It's nice that groups.io will forward huge messages, but it does little good if it creates a bounce-fest downstream. For that reason, I have set max attachment size to 5MB in our group settings as a default. Bigger attachments are stored on the server and forwarded as links. See Admin->Settings->Default Sub Settings->Max Attachment Size. This setting applies to the total of all attachments in any given message. It also means that if anybody wants to access such file(s), then they have to log in. I realize that most servers will forward larger messages than this, and limits are going up all the time. Still, I have made it clear to my subscribers that they send messages much bigger than this -- or change this setting in their group delivery preferences -- at their own risk.? Hope this helps, Bruce |

A couple of years ago, Mark said, "We bounce back messages greater than ~94MB. Because of the way that attachments are encoded, max attachment size will be somewhat lower than that."
