Have you made the link for posting in Groups.IO for your list(s) available to your members and explained the reasons for this change to them? You may also ask members to send posts to your email personally, they may be having trouble posting and you can then forward these to the new list.

Members are less likely to understand or care about the differences between list providers as they do not have to deal with their benefits or drawbacks which may make their view of this change different than yours.

I got my copy back before my email client was even done sending and receiving. The ones sent to my
yahoo groups are taking over an hour to get there and some not at all. I had to resend. Very
frustrating! My members are really dragging their feet, but they are not the ones trying to get
email to people. I am! And I don't understand why they would want to stay there! It's absolutely
terrible there! I guess some people just don't like change.

Re: Are all group members automatically added to updates group? #addmembers

Michael,

Are all group members automatically added to updates group?
During a transfer from a Y!Group, yes.

"CHANGE: With yahoo group transfers, add a note saying members have been
added to the updates group."

I know one can just unsubscribe, but can this default setting be
disabled?
Not that I know of.

I thought I saw a checkbox somewhere, but I am unable to
locate it now. Did I imagine it?
It is on the Sign Up form if you create a new account via the Groups.io web site. I think that may have also been somewhere when a person accepts an invitation.

Re: Subscribers with more than one email address.

Sharon,

On YahooGroups, if people subscribe from 2+ email addresses, yahoo
will group them under one account. When you subscribe to a list, you
choose the address to subscribe from.
If you jump through the correct set of hoops to add those addresses to the same Yahoo account.

You could also jump through a different set to add each to its own Yahoo Account. The latter is the natural result if they are two or more Yahoo Mail addresses.

Since Groups.io only has an email address, a name, and preferences ¡ª
no other account information ¡ª aren¡¯t the two email addresses treated
as independent subscriptions?
Correct. Each subscribed email address is the ID for its own account.

There's some hope that Groups.io will someday allow multiple subscription addresses to be managed under a single account.

There is an advanced setting for your account that allows for an Email Alias, but that address is not subscribed to any groups, and won't receive any group's messages - it is strictly a send-only alternative to posting from your account address.

Re: can I make a group "email only"?

Nancy,

We're using a group only to send notices out to our volunteers via
email, and there's no need for anyone (other than moderators) to see
all the postings. Is there some setting that would accomplish that?
There isn't a setting that restricts the Messages section any tighter than members-only. I think the idea generally is that it is up to the member whether they prefer to receive messages by email or read the group on the web.

Is there really some reason they /shouldn't/ be able to do that, or were you merely saying that it is unnecessary?

Re: Cannot create subgroup #subgroups

Tammi,

After I setup the group, I went to create subgroup. When I hit add, a
subgroup is not created. I've refreshed. Logged out and back in.
Does there need to be more members than just me on the main group
before setting up subs?
No, but if it is a brand-new group the parent group may need to be approved first. Some functions are disabled until the group is approved, and it may be that subgroup creation is one of them.

That's just a grasping-at-straws guess.

Re: I am ALONE HELP! [after transfer from YahooGroups]

dash,

I have one group that was moved some time ago and was ok.... now I
lost 2 genealogy groups and a group I had for many years. I am so
upset.
I understand that when you're in a panic it may be difficult to slow down and work things through carefully. But to help you figure this out we really need more information from you.

Re: What is a Subject Tag?

Nancy,

I just want to know ... what is a subject tag?
Just a bit of text you can add to the Subject line of every outbound email message from your group. They don't show up (generally) in your group's Messages section.

I've been assuming it is [my group¡¯s name] but don¡¯t know the purpose.
The idea is to give the email user some visual indication of which group this message came from, and also to allow them to make simple email filters based on the group tag in the subject. If you imagine your email inbox full of messages from various groups and individuals you can see where this may be handy.

They don't have to be the group name in full, that's why they're editable. I shortened the tag for this group to [GMF] because the full name [GroupManagersForum] takes up a lot of room in a list view of one's Inbox. The [square brackets] around the tag are technically optional, but they are very traditional and serve to separate the tag visually from the actual message topic.

Are all group members automatically added to updates group? #addmembers

I've just had a large group transferred and most of it looks really good. I added myself as a test member and found that the new account was already subscribed to 2 groups. The other group was "updates" with 527,000 members and single message delivery.

The last thing in the world I want is for all the group members I'm soon going to be adding to be getting single messages (even just once a week) for a very technical group that they didn't explicitly join.

I know one can just unsubscribe, but can this default setting be disabled? I thought I saw a checkbox somewhere, but I am unable to locate it now. Did I imagine it?

Re: Another Snag

Pam

Thanks! I'm trying to be patient, I swear, lol. Just soooo close to being done with Yahoo forever? :D

I guess my main question is - am I gumming anything up by continuing to try to do the transfer. As in, is clicking that "Go ahead with Transfer" over and over causing a problem in the queue? I really, really don't want to do that for myself or for any others. Or do you suppose it's not going through at all and it's like I haven't clicked it?

Thanks again for so much marvelous help and advice!

Pam? :)

I sent the invite, it's been accepted, and I've made the transfer address a moderator in my groups. When I go to the transfer page to click to give it the go ahead I get this message:

Before we can being the transfer, you must make the [email protected] user a moderator of your group. If you already have done so, please click the 'Give Go Ahead To Transfer' button again, as Yahoo can be flaky.
I suspect this message means that the transfer agent has not yet received email confirmation from Yahoo stating that its membership application has been accepted. You might be able to see that it has in the group itself, but if Yahoo is having their usual server problems...

I click again, and get the same message. When I check these two groups in .io I'm trying to transfer, it says "No Integrations". I don't want to click this a hundred times and muck up the works, lol. But should I keep trying until I don't get that message anymore? I'm assuming that since it says "No Integrations" that it's not going through.
The "integrations" line on your home page is for RSS feeds, linking with Facebook, etc (see Admin->Integrations). It has no bearing on the transfer process.

Thoughts? I tried this last night and again this morning. I know, I know, patience is a virtue, lol. I just want to be sure I'm not adding the same request a hundred times when it went through and I didn't know it.
I suggest waiting a couple of days. Given dash's recent report and yours, I suspect something may be up with Y!G again and it may take at least that long for things to sort themselves out.

Good luck,
Bruce

Re: can I make a group "email only"?

More explanation needed to understand? what you want. You don't want members to see the message archive on the website? You want a one way notification system to which members cannot reply?

Re: A whole week?

Marie,

So how do they access their account in my group?
Their subscription to your group is separate from their account; they may have subscriptions to other groups within their account.

To access their account info they'd have to log in to the site, then click on their name in the extreme upper right, and select Account from the drop-menu.

How do they connect to their membership in the directory?
Their address and their account are already connected to your group, the transfer agent set that up.

If you're asking how they visit your group's web pages they can follow any of the links to your group that were sent in the various emails they've received, or go to the groups.io home page and click on your group from the list of their subscriptions.

Re: Using BCC to Moderators

Gerald,

Would Email Delivery set to "No email" prevent the BCC getting
through?
Not unless there's some real confusion in the code.

Distribution of +owner email to the group's owners and mods is governed by its own setting in each admin's Subscription page. That shouldn't be affected by the delivery selection for group messages.

Re: Using BCC to Moderators

Marie,

Are you doing a BCC directly from the group or from your own email
program?
This started with an observation about the BCC: Moderators option when rejecting a pending message, using the web site.

Whenever I BCC someone at the groups, like send an email to my main
group and BCC several other groups, I get mailer daemon notices and my
mail may or may not get to the ones I sent with BCC.
As I recall Y!Groups doesn't allow BCC sending to a group's -owner address, but I think the posting address would be ok. You might be encountering a problem with Y!Groups which is unrelated to BCC, or maybe there's something new afoot over there.

This is the first I have heard anyone mention this, so I wonder if
it might be the same or similar issue?
Nope, not in the least. Other than "BCC" being used.

Re: Timing of calendar notices

If you are referring to the "Send Notice To Group When Event Happens" setting, yes, that goes out at the time the event happens.
To have reminders sent out prior to the event, you can add them to the event when you create it (or edit later).? Each event has its own reminders.

Re: Creating a Subgroup Changes the Email Address of the Main Group? #subgroups #changing

The old address will continue to work, don't worry.? However, I wish it had been made obvious by groups.io that this email change happens when you create a subgroup.? It should be a notification in bold-face for all people when they create their group.? Even though I knew the old address would continue to work, I delayed creating the subgroup because I was worried about my members being confused- I had just gone through weeks of prepping them for the new address, and didn't want to suddenly say, "Oh, btw guys, here is the newer, even realer email address".? I was also worried spam issues would have to be dealt with all over again.? In the end, I made the subgroup and didn't even say anything to the group.? That was almost a month ago and everything has gone smoothly, as far as I can tell.? Most people still use the original address when sending group emails.

Subscribers with more than one email address.

On YahooGroups, if people subscribe from 2+ email addresses, yahoo will group them under one account. When you subscribe to a list, you choose the address to subscribe from.

Since Groups.io only has an email address, a name, and preferences ¡ª no other account information ¡ª aren¡¯t the two email addresses treated as independent subscriptions?

photos in emails being resized to 640x640 even though 1024x1024 is selected #bug

Under my groups settings, "Photos", "Max Size In Email" is set to "Resized to a max of 1024x1024".? However, when I send photos they are resized to 640px max.? This is not happening to other group members, their photos are being resized to 1024px.? I am sure the resizing is not happening in my end, as I forwarded the exact email that I sent to the group to a private account, and there the photos were not resized.? I am a group owner, in case that matters.? This has happened to me twice. The photo size has been set to 1024px for ~2 months, and has not been reset.? None of the other photo size options (database, wiki) are set to 640px.? Is this a bug, or something silly on my part?? Apologies if it's something silly.
