Re: Transferring a yahoo group in stages? #transfer

Jeff,

So if we do all but the last step of the transfer, how do we initiate the e-mail to all the users with the info on how to setup their account on ? Do I just run the transfer process again and simply just choose the last option?

I don't know if that would work. Being a separate transfer it might send only to the zero members copied in that round. Unless the mechanism keeps track of prior transfers between the same group pairs. Unless someone here has actually tried it, you may have to ask [email protected] what would happen.

I would say just post a special notice in either or both groups, and include the info you want. The only thing "special" about the content of the You have been added email is that it contains an opt-out link for those who don't want to be in the Groups.io group.

A difference is who receives it. That notice, and your group's Welcome Member Notice would go out to all of the copied members (but only the copied members) regardless of Email Delivery, something that's not quite true of a Special Notice. Also, a Special Notice goes into the group's Messages archive, whereas neither the You've been added nor the Welcome do.

Re: My own messages don't generate an email to me

Never mind. They showed up an hour and a half later. Since I had never seen that before on Groups.io, I thought maybe it was some feature I hadn't figured out. Grio works so well that when something goes awry, it seems so unusual I panic.?

Re: Simple question - is possible to print the Database Tables?

I'm new to Groups.io and was just starting to look at the database capability. It would be nice to have a "Printable View" of the database. A view that removes the left nav and database controls. It would just print the column names and the data in a nicely formatted manner.

I see there is an Export option. This gives me a CSV format that I could bring into Excel/Google Sheets and use however I'd like. This is good enough for me.

Re: Transferring a yahoo group in stages? #transfer

That makes sense about the membership needing to be there to link to the old messages.? So if we do all but the last step of the transfer, how do we initiate the e-mail to all the users with the info on how to setup their account on groups.io? Do I just run the transfer process again and simply just choose the last option? Sorry. Just trying to make sense of it all.?

Thanks,
Jeff

My own messages don't generate an email to me

So how does that work? I don't care, as a.) I know what I wrote, and b.) the activity log and message pages show the reply to an original post I made were posted. But in using my email client to answer some other mail, it occurred to me that I hadn't seen inbound mail from our group in reference to what I posted. The two replies, one was sent by email and the other was made from the web page, if it makes any difference.

Is there normally a delay in sending out emails when messages are posted? Is there an abnormal delay right now? It's been 45 minutes since the first post and normally I get the email with my own postings on the next refresh of my email client (which I have set to 1 minute updates). I haven't seen a delay before in the month and a half since we created the group on Grio, but it was quite common on Brand Y. Because come to think of it, I haven't seen any messages from anyone else in the group. Of course, it appears no one else has posted since I sent my last two.

Re: Simple question - is possible to print the Database Tables?

What constitutes a "downloadable file" depends on browser settings and available browser add-ons. For example, I have the Acrobat Reader add-on installed in my browser so PDF files are displayed...if I didn't have that, it would download the file instead. It is also possible to right-click on anything that displays in the browser (like a CSV file) and do a "save as."

If there's some way to countermand such browser settings on the server side, I'm not aware of it. Even if possible, I think it would be best if groups.io didn't get into the habit of trying to guess what I *really* want to do with the hyperlinked files that I click on.

Yes, but not quite the way you're thinking.
?
My understanding is that the Membership must be copied first in order to preserve each member's ownership of their messages and other content. Otherwise you (the one initiating the transfer) ends up linked as the contributor for all the content.

That said, you can uncheck the bottom box of the Transfer form so that no "You've been added" message is sent to the copied members. You can also make your group's Welcome member notice inactive so that isn't sent either. I think that will result in your group being copied over with none of your Y!Group members notified.

Then at a time of your choosing you'd be able to announce the changeover.

Transferring a yahoo group in stages? #transfer

We're in the process of transferring our yahoo group over and I was curious if it can be done in stages??
I'd like to move everything but the users over first to make sure it all looks ok, then move the users and send the e-mail as a final step. Can this be done?

Thanks.

Re: Yahoo transfer/Invitations/Subscribe by email conflicts? #howtoguide #membership

Dougsinc,

Update: I just sent 586 invitations and got the response "Once your invites have been approved, they will be sent out. You will receive a notification when this happens." Wondering, what is the criteria and how long it might take...

Mark is watching out for spammers, I don't know if there's a specific criteria.

In the past it has only been a few hours, but with the high level of activity lately I'm not sure.

Dr. Denver Fox,

I want to change my owner's password ...? I can't find a way to do this??
?

When logged in as said owner:
o? In the upper right of any Groups.io page click on your name.
o? From the drop-menu select Account.
o? In the Password field enter a new password.
o? Click the blue Change Password button.

While logged in, click on your name in the upper right corner, then select Account.? On the page that opens, fill in the new password and click Change Password.

Re: Can someone explain to me... unsubscribed for marking a message as spam

The first part is self-explanatory - they (or their email service) marked a message as spam and cleared the spam folder.? The second is because when that happens an email is sent to them from groups.io explaining what happened, including a link to correct it.? There are several threads here recently about this very thing.

Re: Can someone explain to me... unsubscribed for marking a message as spam

The person, or their email spam filter, marked a message as spam. That caused to unsubscribe them, simultaneously sending them a link to resubscribe. Then they resubscribed. There have been, like, hundreds of conversations about this here.

Can someone explain to me what the heck happened to generate [both] those messages????

Thanks!
