Unfortunately is right. This has driven me crazy for years.

Set display default to MESSAGES #Discussion

Is there a way to set the display to default to MESSAGES instead of TOPICS?

Re: google drive integration/resizing fotos doesn?t work

I did an experiment this morning (in the US) on uploading photos to be resized.? I have the group set to limit them to 312x312.? The photo I uploaded was 10560x6832, 3.37MB.? A quick check of the storage used after upload showed no change, so it was definitely reduced.? On the photo overview listing of albums, right clicking showed the photo to be 720x466 resized to 307x240 and 42.7KB.? Clicking on the photo to open it in the view window shows the same information, but shows a size below it of 12.01KB.? Clicking the Download button opens the photo as stored and info shows 312x202 and 12.01 KB.

Any photos uploaded before the limit was set will still be at their original size/storage.? I hope this helps.

Re: sudden yahoo bounce

It's happening to a lot of people with Yahoo email addresses.?

/g/GroupManagersForum/message/6120

Follow up messages sent outside of GIO may or may not get through, either.

Gotta love Yahoo!

Bruce

Re: google drive integration

Okay, it is possible to set it up so others can edit folder content. See attached screenshot.

Once you have that set up, click on the "copy link" button and paste that somewhere in your group.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Re: google drive integration

Victoria - To let people access your Google drive, you have to create a folder and share it.?

Once you set up a link address from the sharing dialogue you can put that in your GIO group as we've discussed previously. From that point forward anything you drag into the folder should be visible to group members via clicking on the link.

I know of no way to make the folder public so others can upload to it. Perhaps someone with more experience can help you with that part.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Re: Number of Groups.io Members

Latest: visible groups - 5207, Poster ID - 1,904,761.? Should we start a pool on when it will hit 2,000,000? ;>)

sudden yahoo bounce

Debra Claffey

What is this about? This is not a new member, and has not had trouble before.

Hello,

Recently, emails sent to you have bounced back to us. This can be for many reasons, including:

- We have an incorrect email address for you.
- Your account was or is full.
- Other temporary delivery issues.

We have suspended email delivery to you. This means you will no longer receive messages from the groups you are subscribed to.

You must take action to restore your account, or we will unsubscribe you from all of the groups you are a member of.

To unbounce your account, go to the following link:

/unbounce?email=[redacted]@yahoo.com&cookie=[redacted]

Thank you,

google drive integration/resizing fotos doesn?t work

Shal, thanks for the information.

The idea was to use google drive as a photo storage place easily recognizable for members on the home page and accessable for everyone without great technical knowledge. I understood now that this isn?t possible, so I just put this idea to sleep:-).

My other problem stays unsolved: Originally I wanted to use the photo section as storage place for fotos, but the resizing function doesn?t really work. And even though Duane already explained to me that the displayed size isn?t the real size, fotos still show up much bigger than they are supposed to be. And the storage counter shows MB numbers that seem to be out of context. So I havent?t figured that out yet. As long as this insecurity exists, I cannot offer this foto service to my members fearing storage space might quickly be exceded. Does anyone here have any experience with this foto resizing function?

Victoria

Re: How do I contact a member of my group?

Thank you everybody. Sorry for asking a dumb question.
I didn't notice the small Private button at the bottom of the message.
One more information to put in my Wiki instructions for members.

In my group I have 474 members in red bouncing status. All have Yahoo accounts. I am not sure which is the best way to deal with this.
I am thinking of sending a notice/alert in the group (in case bouncing members at least read posts online) and then simply delete all bouncing accounts.
Any better suggestions?

Re: Yahoo transfer/Invitations/Subscribe by email conflicts? #howtoguide #membership

Dougsinc,

I've sent the invitation to [email protected] but haven't received
the confirmation, yet.
It may take a while for you to reach the head of the queue, but when the transfer agent is ready to be promoted you should receive (at your Groups.io log-in address) a notification with the instructions to proceed.

would it cause a problem if I also sent invitations to my members? And
also told them they could subscribe by email?
One disadvantage, that J mentioned, is that then you may have conversations in two places, and those that haven't yet joined the new group may feel left out.

Another disadvantage is that any address already in the Groups.io group will be skipped when the transfer agent is copying the Y!Group's Manage Members list. Which means that their Email Delivery, Posting Privileges, and Join Date will not be copied. The first two you could copy by hand, but some might be nostalgic for their original join date.

Re: A few questions about transferring a group

Jill,

The group owner cannot access the group and hasn't been able to for a
long time. ... Can we move to Groups IO in this situation i.e. the two
moderators are active the but the group owner is locked out?
It depends on what privileges the moderators have. The first step is that the transfer agent has to become a member of the group. If the group's membership is restricted then you need a moderator with the ability to "Invite and add members" or "Approve pending members".

What may be more troublesome is whether anyone can promote the transfer agent to moderator. A moderator can do that if he/she has the privilege to "Add, remove, and change moderator privileges"

To see if you have the privilege, go to the Manage Members page, Moderators tab, and click on the other moderator's row, anywhere except at the checkbox. If that opens up an Edit Member dialog showing the Moderator Privileges then you have the privilege to change them. And also to change the Role field between Member and Moderator. If nothing happens, you do not.

If the transfer agent cannot be promoted to moderator then it cannot retrieve the members' email addresses from the Manage Members list. I don't know if the copy operation is possible in that case.

Re: A few questions about transferring a group

p.s. Either moderator can invite the transfer agent to the group and start the transfer process. It doesn't need to be the owner. Once you get over to , you can set up whoever you want to be moderators and owners.

Sure. The new group can have any name. ?And as long as you can contact the person, you can invite them to the new group or they can just join it. If they¡¯re still a member of the yahoo group, they¡¯ll be transferred anyway, even if they can¡¯t currently access the yahoo group.?

I transferred a Yahoo UK group just by putting the Yahoo name in the field request and ignored the party after the "@" symbol.? Worked perfectly.

Re: Yahoo transfer/Invitations/Subscribe by email conflicts? #howtoguide #membership

J_Catlady

It wouldn't cause any problem in terms of the transfer agent. They will simply be noted as already belonging to the group, and won't be touched. But I think it's preferable to have everybody transferred en masse, simply because the ones who transfer early will start posting in the new group. and the rest won't see the posts until later if they are the type who use email to read group messages. It just seems messy.

Underscores are OK in Yahoo group names.

Spaces and slashes would not be OK.
