It strikes me as odd that they would turn to re-installation as a possible cure for this symptom. Unless they found that there were other problems.

That seems even odder. But like I said, I don't use Symantec/Norton so I really don't have any specific advice for it. Were it me I'd take a cue from their tech support and uninstall Norton. Then turn on Windows Defender or some other product appropriate to my OS.

Re: Default Group Settings

w0mu,

Default settings do not allow for people to post, ...

I can't find where you can change the Advanced settings or default
group settings.
o In the left column click Admin if necessary to show the Admin buttons
o In the left column click Settings
o Scroll down to the Spam Control section
o Uncheck Moderated
Note: one of the options in that section must be checked. So...
o Check New Users Moderated
o Under Unmoderate After select 1 (or a number you prefer)
o Scroll to the bottom of the page
o Click the blue "Update Group" button

If you don't want to have to approve new members then I recommend "New Users Moderated". When you check that box an Unmoderate After box opens up. Select a number that seems reasonable to you. If you leave it Not Enabled then you'll still be in the position of needing to manually change members' Posting Privileges.

With this setup the default group message moderation policy is unmoderated, but new members start off with the "Override: new user moderated" posting privilege. After you approve 1 (or the number you chose) of messages from that member that member will be automatically changed to "Default group policy", that is: unmoderated.

... so I have to pick over ride moderation even though we don't
moderate posts.
I recommend that you go back and switch the members you've set to "Override: not moderated" back to "Default group policy". Having changed the group policy (as above) their messages will remain unmoderated.

Re: Wiki Search? #notworking

Ok, I'm back to my original question about searching the wiki - and yes, everything else is back in order. Even though I was not impacted with the bogus errors, I have still logged out, closed and cleared the cache et al, and run system maintenance on the drive. I use Firefox, but also tried in Edge.
The Groups.io Status page shows it as "operational" but -

Crazy as it sounds, Search seems to be stuck on "A". Search a term beginning with "a" and yes, it works. Move to "b" - nada and right on down the alphabet.

Can anyone get this to repeat (I hope)?

Questionnaire at what subscription step?

Hi,

I want our questionnaire to be filled out before the prospective member joins. Which are the best settings for that, and at what step of the subscription procedure would it be convenient to send?

Frances, I don't know what you're talking about because I have not followed this thread. I just saw my quote out of context.

Re: Can't get to my group site

Hi Shal,

Thanks for the info. Some of my Group members are able to access but those using Norton, including yours truly, are still blocked. I just finished a 2 Hour tech session with Norton Support. They uninstalled Chrome and reinstalled, ditto for Norton Security. They could not tell or show me how to white list the groups. Norton won't let you go to the groups at all, Firefox will but every time you change screens, Norton throws up blocks. They are supposed to get back to me, I'm not holding my breath.

Re: Wiki Search? #notworking

Sat 2/24 10am:? We were also encountering an issue whereby every message had to be approved (not the group setting - it's unmoderated posts). Logging out, clearing cache et al and logging back in *looks* to have rectified that.
Wiki Search is still not working. Is anyone else experiencing this (I hope, and you know what I mean)?

I recognize that as a quote from a post of mine, and unfortunately, it was quoted out of context. I was addressing someone who had specifically set their group to NuM. It is not the case that all new members in any group are moderated by default. It depends on the group¡¯s settings.

Hi Steve,

I'm using Norton and it is still blocking access. In Chrome, clicking on the "Continue to Website" doesn't work and in Firefox it continues to the site but everytime you make an entry it takes you back to the block and you have to click continue again. I've been on Norton Support for about 2 hours and they have not been able to explain, fix or white list Groups.io. The Technician just asked if she could get back to me, she is going to raise this to a higher support level.

Many of you have posted to their site to get it fixed, so they are aware that it is not acceptable to block a complete site because of one area. I don't think they understood what this is all about.

Clickable links?

Hi

I *think* this is a change in behaviour. If a moderated group member sends a message without the prefix, it looks clickable in my email when I reply to Groups.io to moderate the message, but it becomes unclickable on the group site. And depending on your email settings, it isn¡¯t clickable in the emailed message too. (I use Apple Mail.)

When I received the group member¡¯s email for approval, I checked all the links from my email, and the links definitely were clickable! (My email program deals with it.)

See attached test. What you see is one that is clickable because I put in the prefix. One that isn¡¯t - just www.google.ca

I think your theory is correct, Duane.? I'm one of those list owners who set up groups but did not move my members over until Yahoo started tanking last month.? I kept holding out for a miracle with YahooGroups but when the features on the website were no longer reliable, I knew it was time to do the transfer.

Re: Can't get to my group site

Neat.? Groups.io does a very good job of keeping it users informed.? Any chance links to this, as well as the Twitter feed, could be added to the groups.io home page?? Perhaps at the footer menu?

Re: Bug in Groups.io?

I had the same experience last night and, based on the AVG comment about "unable to verify the identity of the site" figured it was a certificate issue or something similar and (either bravely or stupidly) entered *groups.io/* as an exception in AVG and had no trouble since then. (Which I suppose means if I am wrong, I'm spreading disease....)

Re: Number of Groups.io Members

Got a new member on one of my groups about 30 minutes ago - 1,646,921.? I think a lot of the groups already existed, for setup, so the group count (now 4760 shown) isn't climbing quickly, just the member count.

Avast was blocking access to my group because of a virus. That was yesterday; today the "virus" seems to be gone. No idea what or why.

Both my group page and the status page are fine for me... I use Kaspersky Internet Security and it is usually pretty touchy, but it is OK with groups.io.
