There is the possibility, of course, that YG! could reverse its decline if Verizon decides to fully fund it. But I personally believe that would just be wishful thinking. Re: Question About Migrating from Yahoo Groups to Groups.IO and Setting Up a New Group's Privacy Choices
#groupowner
Thanks, Shal, for confirming J's answers.? Lawrence, I wanted to make sure I fully understood the definition of "archives", as making that private choice is a "once and done", so I didn't want to make a mistake and choose that, then not be able to reverse my choice if I didn't understand the meaning of "archive".? So, I'll go back through and make sure all the rest of the sections are also viewable only by list subscribers.? Appreciate all the help.? Big step for us.? And Shal, my list members are not the most savvy computer users, so I've opted to keep my list names the same as I move them over to Groups.IO, for fear my Yahoo Groups list members might get confused.? I have enough issues with changing the Yahoo Group name over the years (what a ridiculous kurfflufle, causing a bunch of unnecessary resubscription requests), so anything to K.I.S.S. for my group members, the better for the list mods and owner!?

is there a way to report abuse on the groups.io site
Marvin Hunkin
Hi. Is there a way to report abuse to support at groups.io. some one had hacked a friends e-mail and the group site, using spoofing software to pretend to be the owners of a couple of groups, my friend is an owner or co-owner. And sending filthy messages, and threatening to colose these groups down and to have his internet suspended. Is there a way to do this. Will let my friends know, and a admin on a couple of groups. Thanks. Ps: just this is harassment or cyberbullying, been going for a few weeks, my friend then had to close the previous group, due to all these sperious messages, then he set up another group and having the same issue. Thanks. [ad trimmed by moderator] |
messages from GMF going into spam today
J_Catlady
In case anyone else wants to check their spam, I realized a few minutes ago that the vast majority of GMF messages today have gone into my spam file. I've been finding them only hours later when I go to the site. This is happening with none of my other groups.

Re: Question About Migrating from Yahoo Groups to Groups.IO and Setting Up a New Group's Privacy Choices

Patty,
Questions #1: So, in order to move my Yahoo Groups to Groups.IO, ICorrect. There's no requirement that the Groups.io group have the same name as the Yahoo Group. The identity of the Groups.io group is something you tell the transfer agent in Step 2.2. So, what I want is the group to be visible to folks looking to join,Correct. So, just wanting to make sure I'm understanding the definition ofNo. In this control "archives" refers only to the messages. Other content areas have their own access controls, further down the page. None of those are irreversible, and none are affected by the choice you make for the (messages) archive. As J noted, of the other areas only the Wiki, Calendar, and the Guidelines have the option of being made publicly visible. The other option is to invite the new members to your new Groups.io and then freeze the Verizon/Yahoo Group. I've done this when creating a new Verizon/Yahoo group from the ashes of a failed Verizon/Yahoo group. It takes longer, yet works. In either case, I'm glad I've backed up my groups. Paul, Ohio, USA |

Ok, I have some clarification: in a group with "private archives," all content is private with the possible exception of the Wiki pages and the calendar, which can be made accessible to the public at any point. The Group Guidelines can also be made public. On Tue, Feb 20, 2018 at 5:38 PM, Patty Sliney via Groups.Io <hoosierquilt@...> wrote: Thanks, J.? |

I wasn't going to respond to this, but now you are the second person who said this. Obviously, Mark's personal characteristics and integrity are facts. His hard work on groups.io is a fact. That we owe a lot to Mark is a fact. What I was referring to was that whenever someone has some questions about, for example recently, the continuity of groups.io, some of the long timers who have been involved with the development of this group and have been in contact with Mark immediately, criticize, in effect, the the individuals that are raising the issue by saying how hard Mark has worked and so on. They have effectively turned any honest and objective questions into a criticism of Mark. This ends the discussion and prevents free and open discussions.
