Bruce took the time to make such a where the developers will see it.? Whether it might be implemented or not is up to Mark.

Re: Filters in databases #database

It took me a while to get back to you, but thank you for the suggestions. Indeed it's already possible to make columns with various options to choose from, like with checkboxes or radio buttons. However, the possibility to actually filter them when you're on the searching end is not there.?

Thanks again to those who responded,?

Hm. Looks like this field type already exists (Single select, multiple choice). That's more than half the battle.

Would anyone be offended if I made the suggestion?

Filters only work on fields that are restricted to a fixed number of constant, unchangeable values. In computer-speak, these are .
?
As an example, in the Member List, a filter works fine on a status badge or the message delivery setting because these are pre-defined. Email address, Display Name and Join Date are not, thus there is no way to filter on those.
?
Having said that:
- It should be possible to create a plain-text column of type enum and provide all the acceptable values at the time of definition.
- Whenever a row is created, a pick-list of those values would be displayed for that field and you'd be forced to choose from that.
- Thus populated, a corresponding filter could be displayed at the top of the database.
?
It would be especially nice to do something similar with Extra Member Data. I don't know how complicated the implementation would be, but that's Mark's problem.
?
If someone were to suggest this in beta, I'd support it.
?

Bruce

You can sort by column, so that should accomplish at least part of what you're looking for.? The only way to know if the developer (Mark) would be open to something is to make a #suggestion on the beta group where he'll see it.

Filters in databases #database

Currently there are no options to filter in databases, one can only search, as far as I know.?
It would be nice if this feature would be added, so you could filter for instance on one of the columns.?
Is this something others would be interested in as well? If so, would the developers be open to that?
I have no experience in how this would normally work so excuse me if this is not an appropriate question.?
Best, Winnie?

Re: adding a comment to a poll response

Thanks, Francis.
I noticed there is a built in way to email folks who answered a particular poll item so that is another workaround I could use.

Re: Deleting old attachments in a free group

Thanks again for the useful help.? Now I get to try to make a good summation for a future owner.? LOL

Re: adding a comment to a poll response

You can't add additional content to a poll. You can of course allow more than one answer.?
?
A workaround - as long as your group is set to reply to group (typical), once the poll has been answered, you can also click on reply to create another post to add more information. ?It will be in a new post, although it is part of the thread.

adding a comment to a poll response

Is there any way I can get a user to include a comment with a poll - in addition to just checking off their choices - give more information
I was thinking of sending the poll in an email and have the comment being included in the reply to the email? in addition to answering the poll but not sure it would work. Has any one tried to do this?
Thanks!

As with the Size column header, if you click on Date it will invert the sort order, thus displaying oldest message first.

And Bruce I understand where the Message Policies are and I had set it to "Storage Limit Reached".
What should I change it to??
My bad. It used to be called "Out of Space," when you inquired about this 4 years ago. The name has been changed since then, for no apparent reason.
?
Anyway, "Storage Limit Reached" is a pull-down menu. Click on it, and select "Delete Old Attachments." Be sure to save your changes.

I would actually like to go in manually and clip out an entire year.?
There is no provision to select a date range. To achieve that, you will have to edit messages one by one.?

It is very handy to attach photos which we use a lot, to the whole group (it is 20 people) rather than me having to send out to all individually.? I don't want them too downsized or they are not easily printable.
You can delete photo attachments directly from the Emailed Photos folder, if you find that more convenient. See the wiki page I sent to you earlier. That said, it?doesn't take many print-quality images to use up 1 GB. It stands to reason that if you're unwilling to resize them you will run out of space more quickly.?

I very much appreciate the help given as I am finding the Owner's manual both a little obtuse and often incorrect in procedure.?
The user interface was updated several months ago and the manuals have fallen behind. I'm told they are being worked on, and I sure hope so.?

Bruce

Thank you Hamish and Bruce.

What should I change it to?? I did not see anything that was more appropriate in the available options. I would actually like to go in manually and clip out an entire year.? Anything worth saving that was listed in our message group has been saved already and put into our history. I very much appreciate the help given as I am finding the Owner's manual both a little obtuse and often incorrect in procedure.? Mostly I just have to add and subtract people infrequently.? Now I will need to be able to train someone else in procedure and I will need to write a careful list of precise directions for them so I may be here a lot for clarifications.? Thanks

Thank you - I will go check that out.

Re: Spam to owners

I have yet to receive a single spam via my lists I own since Rootswewb

Truth be told, it's those subscribers who had been hacked.

It used to be that "banned by system" accounts could still send spam to the +owner address. That was changed 3 days ago.

I think this is unusual as it's hitting just owners. Might be trickier for him to eliminate.

Spam to owners

I spotted a smattering of messages here about the increasing number of spams we're getting as Owners (about six a day).

?

Besides blocking at my e-mail server level, is Groups.io doing anything to stop the spam? Anyone know if Mark's aware of the issue?

Thanks everyone...

Judith -- There is a group setting that will delete attachments without your intervention, oldest first, as your group begins to run out of space. Change the "Storage Limit Reached" entry under Message Policies. /helpcenter/ownersmanual/1/customizing-group-settings/message-policy-settings?
?
Please note that this setting does not take effect in real time. A job runs once a week, so you will likely have to wait a few days.
?
Harnish's instructions will get you to a linked list of those messages that contain attachments (and their sizes). But deleting them manually can only be done by editing each message, one by one. Yes, very tedious. Typically, a few large attachments are responsible for most of the problem. Deleting those should get you under quota fairly quickly.
?
There is a GMF wiki page on this at /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/7120 ?
?
Hope this helps,
Bruce

Re: Deleting old attachments in a free group

Hi Jidi,
?
You can access the attachments by selecting, ADMIN - PREFERENCES - UPGRADE, then you will see under Current Plan Free you will see a link to View Attachments. On selecting this you can then select which you wish to delete.
?
Hope that helps.
