Re: A website that uses the domain name of our group

I would exercise caution here.? Creating a similar-looking name is a favorite way for malware organizations to capture unsuspecting victims.? They stand up a website that looks like the real thing, but with content that's laced with "bad stuff".? By creating a similar-named site, you're potentially encouraging the bad guys to do the same.? More likely, you'll be preventing folks who are aware of this attack from visiting your site out of fear that it's not real.

My opinion, the best approach would be to create the website with a proper, easily distinguished name, and include links on that page back to your Groups account.? On Groups, include links to the website in a pinned post or similar.? Cross link the two with actual links, not through the site names.? The name of the Groups account can certainly be part of the website name, if it's available, but leave the groups.io part out.

Re: A website that uses the domain name of our group

Were you thinking you would keep Groups.io as your discussion forum? With a link to your Group on your new website? Some others do that.
?
You could certainly make them both very similar - for example:
website URL: ?www. broccoli. com
Groups.io group name: ?broccoli. groups. io ?
?
(spaces put in to avoid a hyperlink to nothing at this point!)
?
You need to see what domain names are available.?

No. A domain name must map to a single IP address; otherwise a nameserver lookup will return ambiguous results.
?
(We're not looking to Groups.io to host the pages, since I believe that to be beyond the scope of the services provided, just have the domain be consistent with our group's.)
Enterprise groups might be able to do something along these lines, but groups.io would be hosting your site.

Can you clarify please?
You belong to Nordhavn Dreamers.
?
You want to add American Tug Owners.?
You say "CB in my subscription - I was allowed access by the moderator"
?
If you joined American Tug Owners ([email protected]) and were approved as a member, your subscription list should automatically update if you used the same email address for Nordhavn and American Tug.
Log into groups.io. You can use the footer from an email from a group. If you don't have a password, you can use Email Me A Link To Log In.
?
EDIT: ?There is a dropdown menu that says Your Groups. You should see all the groups that you are registered for that email address.
Within a group, you can click on the Groups.io icon and that lists your groups.
?
Please let us know if that works for you. If it doesn't, any details about what happens or a screenshot would be helpful.

Corrected the place to look for Your Groups.

They do not. In fact, I'm pretty sure that groups.io isn't storing this information at all.

2) How do I know which post is unread
?
3) How do I mark it as read.
On the web, your browser will show a difference in color of visited vs unvisited hyperlinks. If you were to clear your browser history, I'd bet all the messages will now appear "unread."
?
I cannot speak to how the app behaves, but I suspect they're different only because you've clicked on different things in the two devices.

Hope this helps,

Re: Now: Groups.io Anniversary - Monday, September 23, 2024 #cal-notice

For me a major benefit to Groups.io compared to other groups that my particular group has been with over the years is the fact that Groups.io and Mark listens to us regarding various issues and when Mark thinks something needs fixing or enhanced it is done.

?

Prior groups did not do that.

?

Thus, while I moved several groups when Yahoo was closing down I would have been with Groups.io much sooner if I had known about Groups.io and Mark listened to us.

?

I hope Groups.io does not go like several of my prior groups in that they merged with another group with the other group taking over the one I was with at the time.

?

Finally got to Yahoo which just closed it down.

Re: Reply all goes to the entire group!!!!

Bob,

Our group, any member is allowed to post without moderation. We have parameters set so replies to messages go only to the sender. However, if somebody clicks reply all, the message is broadcast back to the group. This is creating useless emails. How can I block this?

I posted a suggestion to the beta group (where the Groups.io developer participates) for a new group moderation setting, Moderating Replies, which would help with your situation, namely it would allow anyone to post a new message and start new topics (as happens now) but any replies to them won't post, they'll instead go to your pending messages bucket where you can then delete them at your leisure with a few clicks by using the Check All checkbox, or just don't bother, pending messages automatically get deleted if not approved within 14 days. (/helpcenter/ownersmanual/1/managing-group-topics-and-messages/handling-pending-messages)

You can add you voice or support for the setting if you want, join it the group if not a member, the suggestion is here:

Cheers,
Christos

You can't really.? Until people stop using Reply All when they mean, or should be using, Reply, it's mostly a lost cause.? Best you can do is make sure the group is set to Reply To Sender and maybe click the Remove Other Reply Options.

Is there any way to remove their photo and keep the email?

Are you referring to images that are not (real) attachments but embedded images inside the message? (and just happen to be by their name?)
If yes, you click on that image to select it and press the Delete key or rightclick-Delete, but also check it in the messages attachments area as it shows there as well.

Group settings do not in any way affect how "Reply all" behaves in your mail client. If the group address happens to be on the From: or CC: line - such that Outlook includes it among the addressees of the reply - groups.io will receive it and forward it, and everyone the group will receive the message. If not, it won't.
?
As for a simple "reply," that should go to the address in the Reply-to field of the message header, according to internet email standards. Unfortunately, many mail clients fail to conform to the standard, and send it to the From: address instead. You can set a default with the reply-to setting (/helpcenter/ownersmanual/1/customizing-group-settings/message-policy-settings), and those clients that conform to the standard will work properly. Those that don't, won't.
?
As Frances said, the only way to ensure a reply goes to where it's intended is to use the message footer links.

Bruce
