I used to get this; it's caused by a bug in Thunderbird.

First cure, close the windows with ALT-F4. Second, open the task manager,
you will probably see several instances. Delete one of them.

One of these should work (I can't now remember what I did, sorry).

Or see .

No, I'm pretty sure it isn't reserved at all after a rename.

Or can you rename your group back to the original name at a later
date?
Yes, assuming no one else has taken the name by then.

Re: Question About Transferring a Large Yahoo Groups List #transfer

Patty,

So, thinking that maybe we could create a Flicker account for the old
photos. Just have to see if that is also free, based on the huge
number of photos we have.
Yes, 1 TB of free storage, 10x the Yahoo Group limit.

That might be a rather daunting task, though - moving ALL those photos
to a Flicker page.
Also yes!

However, if you get them organized into folders on your computer (via PG Offline, for example) Flickr does have bulk uploaders that can take a folder of photos at a time.

You can also bulk upload them by way of Adobe Lightroom, but then you might be tempted to take on the even more daunting task of examining and perhaps adjusting them.

You rename the group, Is the original group name reserved indefinitely as well?
Or can you rename your group back to the original name at a later date?

I created a group.io list (3G) as a place for a popular YG list (3G) to relocate. The (3G) list owner has decided to go down with the ship and let the (3G) list die with YG. I renamed my groups.io (3Gone) list to distance itself from the old YG (3G)list. Now it sounds like if the old YG (3G)list decides to save itself it can not create a new groups.io list with the (3G)name I had originally used.

Barb, that is a very good question.? Re: Thinking about moving my groups from Yahoo over here, but have some questions

Bruce,

(1) Are there any "gotchas" like this ends up being a paid service?
It only becomes paid if you deliberately upgrade your group.

(2) If there are paid levels, what do I get for free?
See the Pricing link at the bottom of every Groups.io page. While you're at it, you may wish to peruse Help and maybe some of the others.
/static/pricing

(3) Can I merge two Yahoo groups into one groupio group?
Yes. Just run the transfer procedure (link at the page footer) once for each Y!Group, specifying the same Groups.io group as the target.

An alternative would be to make one group be a subgroup of the other. That would only make sense if the membership of one of them includes all (or substantially all) of the members of the other. There have been some discussions about doing this in the last week or so, search for subgroup in our Messages archive. See also our wiki, which has some articles about subgroups.

My group has been running now since December 31st, and so far everyone is happy, but, there's always a but, why if they login are the members and myself prompted to re-write their profile bio. Unless they specifically want to amend their profile bio, I can't understand the necessity of this step.?

Re: Members not seeing their own messages/spoofing

Thanks, Duane. Yes, the fraud message appears to be an Outlook issue.

I will advise people about setting their Preferences. I know there were several that were not gmail, but on the other hand, at least one has now said she can see messages, so maybe it will sort itself out.

(My big problem has been the number of people sending test messages, multiple times when they can¡¯t see their own! But I hope that will stop now.)

It appears to me that that message is sent by MS Office/Mail. Maybe you could check with a few of the folks and see if that's what they have in common.

All messages should be visible online. If some folks aren't getting copies by email of things they send, it could be related to the default setting in gmail. That can be corrected by each individual by selecting the checkbox for "I always want copies of my own messages" on the Preferences page of their Account. There may be other services that also do this, but gmail is the most well known.

Re: Can a group be Renamed?

Thanks for the additional info Shal.

I was interested in this topic myself because I thought I might want to change the name of one of my groups, following a potential change of a product name, but I decided against it for precisely these reasons (though as you point out I was wrong about the site URL).

Changing the Group Email Address also changes its site URL correspondingly. The two are always matched.

That, plus their bookmarks. Plus the corresponding email addresses in old messages and their address book. All good reasons to avoid changing the Group Email Address once the group has more than a few members.
