Re: Can't create a group, but e-mail says it doesn't exist
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýSo, I created a group with a certain name (same as on Yahoo), but now I am thinking I want that group to be a subgroup of another group.? Can I still use the name as the name of the subgroup?? I see where you said even if a group is deleted the name is reserved indefinitely - would that mean I can't switch it?? Let me know, thanks! Barb B ?

Good guess. The North American Summits on the Air group, ¡°nasota¡± at Yahoo! (), is the one we are considering moving to . is an informational site for the same thing.

Ken,
If you create a group, and then ... You rename the group, Is theNo, I'm pretty sure it isn't reserved at all after a rename. Or can you rename your group back to the original name at a laterYes, assuming no one else has taken the name by then. Shal |
Re: Question About Transferring a Large Yahoo Groups List
#transfer
Patty,
So, thinking that maybe we could create a Flicker account for the oldYes, 1 TB of free storage, 10x the Yahoo Group limit. That might be a rather daunting task, though - moving ALL those photosAlso yes! However, if you get them organized into folders on your computer (via PG Offline, for example) Flickr does have bulk uploaders that can take a folder of photos at a time. You can also bulk upload them by way of Adobe Lightroom, but then you might be tempted to take on the even more daunting task of examining and perhaps adjusting them. Shal |

If you create a group, and then due to complaints about similarity to a group on facebook, google, or YG You rename the group, Is the original group name reserved indefinitely as well? Or can you rename your group back to the original name at a later date? I created a group.io list (3G) as a place for a popular YG list (3G) to relocate. The (3G) list owner has decided to go down with the ship and let the (3G) list die with YG. I renamed my groups.io (3Gone) list to distance itself from the old YG (3G)list. Now it sounds like if the old YG (3G)list decides to save itself it can not create a new groups.io list with the (3G)name I had originally used. KEN "It has always seemed strange to me," said Doc. Barb, that is a very good question.? I don't know, but I suspect folks do peruse through them, because we're a crafting group, so photos are kind of key in getting inspiration for your own sewing, quilting, machine embroidery projects.? So, thinking that maybe we could create a Flicker account for the old photos.? Just have to see if that is also free, based on the huge number of photos we have.? That might be a rather daunting task, though - moving ALL those photos to a Flicker page.? Have to look into that this weekend when I have some time.?

wunder,
We can¡¯t create the group, but when I send mail to [it], I get thisThat suggests to me that someone already created a group by that name, then deleted it. The name of a deleted group remains reserved indefinitely. You could write to [email protected] to see if Mark will unlock the name for you. Shal |

Re: Thinking about moving my groups from Yahoo over here, but have some questions
Bruce,
(1) Are there any "gotchas" like this ends up being a paid service? It only becomes paid if you deliberately upgrade your group. (2) If there are paid levels, what do I get for free?See the Pricing link at the bottom of every Groups.io page. While you're at it, you may wish to peruse Help and maybe some of the others. /static/pricing (3) Can I merge two Yahoo groups into one groupio group?Yes. Just run the transfer procedure (link at the page footer) once for each Y!Group, specifying the same Groups.io group as the target. An alternative would be to make one group be a subgroup of the other. That would only make sense if the membership of one of them includes all (or substantially all) of the members of the other. There have been some discussions about doing this in the last week or so, search for subgroup in our Messages archive. See also our wiki, which has some articles about subgroups. /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/home Shal |

Group members profiles
maggie cooper
My group has been running now since December 31st, and so far everyone is happy, but, there's always a but, why if they login are the members and myself prompted to re-write their profile bio. Unless they specifically want to amend their profile bio, I can't understand the necessity of this step.?
