The %2520 suggests that this file name was HTML encoded twice, probably by cutting and pasting it from some other web location. Anyone else see a pattern here?

Instead of clicking on the link itself, try clicking on the "Update" icon immediately to its right. In the resulting dialog box, if you rename it to something else (preferably without spaces) and resave it, that could fix the problem. Otherwise Mark ( [email protected] ) will likely have to intercede.

Ron,

When I attempt to open them the show a paragraph of meta-data only? <a href="/login?r=https%3A%2F%2F
miamihighschool.groups.io%2Fg%2Fmain%2Ffiles%2FBiographies%2FChristine%2520[redacted]%2520%2528
[redacted]%2529%25281%2529.txt">Found</a>.

That's not meta-data, that's a link, as one would be written into the code of a web page. The HTML link element:
?
<a href="...">Found</a>

Would be displayed as the word "Found" with link style. In Groups.io that would be blue text with an underscore that pops up when you hover over the text. I don't see a file named Found in your screenshot, but given the other file names that wouldn't be a surprising one. Did you click on Found in your files list?

The link reference part (href parameter) is rather mysterious, especially beginning "/login?r=" - that seems to be directing your browser to visit the login page, and then the following address:

[redacted]%20%28[redacted]%29%281%29.txt

Which is an encoding for:

[redacted] ([redacted])(1).txt

Ignoring my redactions of Christine's last names, that could actually be the address of a file in the Biographies folder of your primary group. What did you click on to get the text you copied? The Biographies folder?

How it came about that this fragment of HTML was displayed to you, and double encoded at that, and prefaced by a login request, rather than the Biographies folder, is a mystery to me.
?

Any assistance will be appreciated.

Faced with this anomaly I would try:

1. Ctrl+F5 (or Ctrl+Shift+R) to get a clean browser page refresh.
2. Logging out and then back in.
3. Using a different browser (e.g. Firefox instead of Edge, or whatever browsers you have).

Failing those, it seems like a problem only [email protected] could fix.

Hi Bruce,

No, that did not help.

  1. I am logged in as an Owner
  2. Files are not in a sub-group
  3. They are listed and show a file size
  4. When I attempt to open them the show a paragraph of meta-data only? <a href="/login?r=https%3A%2F%2Fmiamihighschool.groups.io%2Fg%2Fmain%2Ffiles%2FBiographies%2FChristine%2520Hanrahan%2520%2528Fraser%2529%25281%2529.txt">Found</a>.?

The fact that the file sizes are different indicates that the files were loaded successfully.

Any assistance will be appreciated.

Check the group's home page. In the "Group Information" section there should be a "started on" date. That's the date that matters.

How can I get access to or download the three files?
Are you logged in? Are you still the group Owner?

See?/helpcenter/membersmanual/1/understanding-groups-io-accounts/logging-in-to-your-account?

If the files you're interested in are within an unused subgroup, you will have to pay for a month of Premium to get your subgroups back.

Hope this helps,

Gary

I was recently working on a windows pc copying email addresses off a city website and pasting them into a neighborhood forum post. ?A couple kept blowing up. ?
They were not hotlinks on the website but when I pasted the copied text into windows Notepad to see what I had, they were?
mailto:username@domain type which was not apparent in the copied or originally pasted text. ?
I often use Notepad to strip out unwanted gremlins. ?Could that have been the issue w/ io.g?

BTW, are there any other conditions being tightened up in the near future we need to be aware of?

Re: Failed - force failed

I agree, Hank, but I actually didn't do a pure copy/paste. Using Mail on my Mac, I did a Copy Address from the email she sent me. I had assumed (silly me) that would give me a reliable address to paste into groups.io, and it has every other time I've done it. But not this time. Don't know why.

Hi Chris and Hank

The victim (our President) has checked all bounced mail and says they¡¯re all from the correct email address (president@¡). He¡¯s a long-time Mac user so I¡¯d be surprised if he was accidentally including a space before the address.

I¡¯ve suggested he tries posting directly on the website rather than using mail, and hopefully this may resolve the issue, but if anyone has any other ideas I¡¯d be massively grateful if you could let me know :)

Thanks for getting back to me - I really appreciate it!

All the best

Mike

Not definitively, but others might have an idea.

However, it might be that he is inadvertently posting from a non - member email address (assuming that you do not allow non - members to post) so I suggest a good look at your Activity Log to see if there any clues there.

As little as a space before the address has killed email I've tried to send.? A copy/paste can easily pick up an unwanted space.

Good morning,

I¡¯m pretty sure the answer to this is no, but can anyone confirm that there is no limit in place for the number of times a day one member can post to a groups.io account??

I manage an account for a large Mac User Group (600+) based in Florida and our President posts several links to technical articles trawled from the internet each day. They contain a link to the source plus the whole article, including images. Just recently, many of his posts are not appearing in the account. A couple of days ago he posted six and not one was shared with our members.

Can anyone offer any advice for why this should happen and what I might do to make it stop?

Many thanks,

Mike

Re: Failed - force failed

My apologies to Bruce and to everyone else who replied to my request for help. Unforeseen circumstances have kept me off of groups.io for a couple of weeks and I'm just getting back to it.

Bruce: I don't know for sure that your "wild guess" was correct, but your solution sure was. When I typed in the invitee's email address instead of pasting it, the invitation was sent, she received it and we were back on track. That still doesn't help me understand what "Failed - force failed" means, but as long as the invitation went out, I'm not sure I care enough anymore.

To reply to Willow Raven, there was no number for the error message. "Failed - force failed" was listed in the Status field of the Sent Invitations page, where I normally see "Accepted", "Sent" or "Sent - Expired".

In any case, thanks to everyone who replied and, again, my apologies for the delay in getting back to you.

Re: Is there any way to get notified when a non-member tries to post to a group?

Good day Shal,
As always I appreciate the input.

This was a member who inadvertently sent a response to the group from an unregistered email address.
The subject of the email was one that was in use on the forum. I don't understand what about the message could
have been considered SPAM. The reason I turned on the option for non-members to be able to post
is that I was missing messages from people who would be welcome as members and they did not
know there was a process for joining the group.?

Re: computer hacked/crashed. UP and running now, but no messages shows for last 2 days

Anita,

My 'brain exchange' page doesn't show any postings received on 10/22
or 23.
I don't know what that page is. Are you talking about a web page for a group on Groups.io or something else?

I have seen and moderated some postings on those dates from my iPhone
but they don't show up on my desktop.
If you use an email app on your desktop it should retrieve the missing messages once you have the app installed and set up on your desktop, and configured to access you email service once again.

The fate of older messages depends on whether your app connects to your email account via IMAP or POP and other factors.

Re: Is there any way to get notified when a non-member tries to post to a group?

Andrea,

Is there any way to send an automatic notice to non members whose
messages are not forwarded to moderators for approval?
The non-member message should have been rejected (in the email transaction sense of the word), and the sender would have been notified by their own email system's postmaster (sometimes known as the "mailer daemon") that the message could not be delivered. That's what it says here:

This seems like a significant system limitation as legitimate messages
and potential members are falling through the cracks :-(
Hopefully not most of them - just those judged to be spam by the tighter non-member criteria.

No.? There was a big discussion about this on the beta group and the present situation is the best compromise to protect the site as well as group owners.? If a message is detected as spam, it's immediately deleted.? If it's determined to be legitimate, it goes in pending for action.? As I said earlier, the messages from non-members are subject to tighter scrutiny, so are more apt to be considered spam.
