Re: temp upgrade for direct-add for legacy group
Thanks.? Just want to make sure that since we were created in 2019. we'd be allowed to have more than 100 members as a free basic group.? Don't want to be charged if we upgrade for one month to do direct-add, and then downgrade to basic -- that the group could continue as free after that when we'd have more than 100 members/

temp upgrade for direct-add for legacy group
I'll start with my question first, then explain the specifics of our unique situation:
?
Question and summary:
We have an existing free group at groups.io that we started in 2019, which includes subgroups and currently has 45 members.? ?I plan to pay $20.00 per month (for one or two months) to temporarily upgrade to do a direct-add of 180 members -- and then, keeping the members we added, revert to our existing free basic group we started in 2019 with subgroups.
I believe this would be allowed -- since we are a legacy basic group. Right?
?
(Note: We are a small community club that meets occasionally. We send out between 5 and 30 emails per year, just to notify our members of special events or changes to our meeting etc. Sometimes it's only two messages in a year.? We mainly use the group for file storage of the meeting minutes of our club. Currently using 26 MB total storage.)
?
Details:
?
Started our group on groups.io in 2019.? Our intention was to replace our existing yahoogroup with it.? This was more than a year before we knew that yahoogroups would be shutting down, so we did not anticipate any deadline to transfer -- we simply decided to transfer due to yahoogroups having poor service and too much advertising.
?
I gradually began to manually transfer each file, one at a time to our new group on groups.io.
I also set up a few subgroups on our new group at our groups.io.
This was all back in 2019 when owning a group in groups.io was free at the basic level, and subgroups were free, and the number of members for a basic group was unlimited.
?
In late 2019, it was stated that the cost to transfer everything (files/messages/members) from yahoo to groups.io would be to pay $110.00 (later changed to $220.00) to purchase a one-year upgraded membership in groups.io.??
I had already manually moved the files, and we decided not to keep the message archive.? All we wanted to do was move our yahoogroup members to our replacement group at groups.io.
?
I downloaded our yahoogroup member list and saved it to my device. We learned that we could pay $20.00 for one month to upgrade our free version of groups.io to have the ability to "direct add" members.? ?We were told that the temp upgrade would revert back to our already-existing membership if we stopped paying the $20.00 per month.? And it was stated that it was common for several owners of groups.io groups to do this once or twice per year for the purpose of doing "direct-adding".
?
The understanding was that *every* feature we already had (including subgroups and unlimited members) as part of our "basic" membership would remain grandfathered in -- because we set up our group in 2019.
?
In December 2019 we decided to pay the $20.00 to direct-add the members and got a receipt for "changed the group plan to premium, monthly billing, automatic downgrade".?However, I was about to direct-add the members from our yahoogroup -- when I became very ill.? We put on hold adding our yahoo members to the groups.io until my health recovered.
?
It's been a very long recovery (almost 2 years), but I am finally healthy.? Now I am ready to "direct-add" my old yahoogroup members to our group groups.io
?
My plan is to pay $20.00 for a one-month upgrade, do my direct-adding, and then downgrade.
?
I have been reading your wiki, to follow the procedures. I am confused by some things on the wiki -- that seem to indicate that if I upgrade temporarily and then downgrade, that I would lose some features we already had?? Is that true? Or is that only for groups started after Feb. 8, 2020?
?
My understanding is that everything we had in our basic membership when our group was founded in 2019 would already be grandfathered in.? That should include subgroups, and it should exempt us from the 100-member limit.? Right?? We shouldn't be penalized for a temporary upgrade for one month to do direct-adding. |

Cal-notice not showing up today
Anyone has experienced a problem with calendar notices?
In my moderators' group we receive a daily cal-notice stating who's in charge of the main group on that day. However, today's (22 October) notice did not show up either in the group or in our mailboxes. I have checked the calendar: the time zone is correct and the event is set to "Send Notice To Group When Event Happens". Any idea about what might have gone wrong? Thanks in advance, Marina |

Thank you for the tips! I checked the activity history and it says "accepted invitation, via web." I'm the only one who sends invitations. Curiouser and curiouserYou should be able to see who sent the invitation. In Activity, look in Moderator Activity. And in Admin, Invite, check Sent Invitations. You can get the date. If you have any other moderators, perhaps full privileges were given to someone. And of course, owners have that too. Frances ? -- Help available from Groups.io help and GMF wiki. ? |

BTW, I assume you have "spam control" as restricted membership.

privacy set to "restricted membership" but just got an email that someone joined the group
Britt Vickstrom
Hi there all,
I tried to search through posts to see if this has been answered, but I can't seem to find this? I moderate a private group, and I double checked that the privacy is set to "restricted membership" so anyone who wants to join should require permission, but just a few hours ago, I got an email that a new person had joined the group. The person is part of a related org, and I was going to invite them in a week, but I don't know how they joined on their own. I emailed them to (politely) ask. Thank you in advance for help, Britt |
Re: Continuous incorrect removals for supposed SPAM
Comcast is the number one most likely email provider to mark messages from groups.io as spam onl our site. It happens almost every day to someone in our group with a Comcast email. I can offer a solution that has worked for me. Monitor your spam folder for several days and when you find anything from groups.io there, mark it as "not spam". Comcast has that option. This apparently did train my Comcast spam filter. I have not been removed for marking a message as spam in over 2 years.
Whether the cause of marking messages as spam is the filter or the user, this is something that only the user can fix. The final option is to change email providers. Ullmang |
Re: Continuous incorrect removals for supposed SPAM
I have Comcast as my email provider.? Unfortunately, Comcast frequently marks messages from groups.io as Spam.? I check my spam folder frequently, and move those messages to my inbox.? So far, Comcast hasn't 'learned' (after many years now).? If the message is from the groups.io, not an individual member replying to a groups.io message, then save the address in contacts, and that helps.? Most of mine that are marked spam now come from individual members replies, not the messages directly from the groups.io messages.??
