Not by notification, but in the activity log you can search using the "changed email" action.

Notifications of member email address change

Is there a way to be notified of a member changing their email address within the group? I've gone through everything I can think of to find an answer, but found nothing.

Thanks for your time!

Re: Suggestions for how to pay for your group #donations

We used a simple method, not Donations, to raise money to pay for our existing premium group. ?(We have more than 800 members.) ? I sent out a message asking members to volunteer to offer to pay $10 each to keep the group going for another year. ?When I got enough offers, which came in very quickly, I messaged that I had enough offers and asked those who had offered to then send me the money. ?I had one member who offered to pay it all, but I declined that, believing that member "buy-in" is important. ?It worked very well.

Re: Suggestions for how to pay for your group #donations

I am sure that you and I are not the only people who would like to give money to io groups to help with cost, but for a variety of reasons can not afford to go Premium.

I do hope that Mark will change his opinion on that. The difference between free and premium ist just too big for many groups, even if they fully appreciate that they can not expect a free service.

I agree. It is about time I write that up as a separate #suggestion, as it really is independent of what the new pricing structure turns out to be.

Re: Why is my message not showing up? Group was NOT in Announcement Only.

Janie,

Wait, I just replied to both of you--Chris and Shai, and am not seeing
my replies.
GMF is 100% moderated, and the moderators aren't available 24/7, so there can be delays before a post shows up.

I changed the email response for me as Janie, to owner, and that did
the trick. I don't understand why, as I've posted as myself many times
before.
I don't even understand what you changed. More detail would be helpful.

If you mean that you were posting from a Reply link in the group's Messages page (or from the New Topic page) and you changed the From address of your reply (or topic), then perhaps your previous attempts were held pending or rejected owing to your Posting Privileges.

I checked Activity--no clues.
The group's Activity page logs about everything relating to postings, so that's a surprise. Make sure you're looking at the Activity page in the group's Admin pages, not the Activity History tab in your Membership page.

It just shows that I "Changed the group settings" which is about
unchecking Announcement Group only, then Entered
If, in exchange for unchecking Announcement-Only Group, you turned on "Message Moderation" or checked "New Members Moderated" that would support the idea that your prior attempts may have been held in the Pending message list. Your Role as Owner does not automatically bypass any message moderation settings.

I checked Activity--no clues. It just shows that I "Changed the group settings" which is about unchecking Announcement Group only, then Entered . I even went in, rechecked it, then unchecked it. Nothing. Even looked to see if my Test email was listed, which I posted several times. Nada.?

What might be going on and how do I undo whatever is going on?

I believe you can only change it if you set it as owner as a default
by changing attachment size.
I'm not sure exactly what Frances meant, but you can see and change the member's Attachment setting in that member's page. On the Members list click on that member's row to open his/her page then scroll down to the Advanced Preferences panel and open it. Look for "Max Attachment Size" at the bottom of that panel.

As with the settings in the other panels, the group member might rightfully object to you changing their subscription settings without notice or consent.

Except for the Posting Privileges panel: that one the member cannot see and is explicitly for the group management (owners/mods) to control.

You can also preset it for future members via the Default Subscription Settings panel in the Default Sub Settings tab of your group's Settings page.

One obvious method would be to use the existing Donation mechanism to accept donations from the group members, and use the proceeds to pay for the group's plan charges.
/helpcenter/ownersmanual/1/taking-donations-and-reviewing-payment-activity

There are some limitations:

1) It is available only to Premium groups, so a Basic group can't use it to pay for a Premium upgrade, unless the Owner is willing to front the initial upgrade.

2) It requires that the group owner be willing to sign up with Stripe and use their own bank account to receive the donations. There are many reasons a group owner might not want to do that.

So for many groups the Groups.io Donation mechanism won't be the answer.

Those are initial thoughts. I'm not addressing in this message the questions of motivating members to donate and determining what to do about members who don't, or insufficiently, if the group's membership is over the quantity included with the plan (400 for Premium, 1000 for Enterprise), or if the total donations won't cover the next plan payment.

Re: Suggestions for how to pay for your group #donations

We did a voluntary donation for our hobby based group and collected enough to pay the fees in less then 24 hours.? ?We sent money, if it was available to him via paypal and friends /family.? I'm not the group owner of said group, but considering the amount of data, history and help I have had from the members I will gladly contribute for the group to continue.

Re: Messages via email mode not going through

tommy,

I checked in the group's activity tab and didn't find any record of
the messages being received no matter where I looked.
That should only be possible if the messages were misdirected - sent to an incorrect address. Typo maybe?

The message includes two attachments, that may be the problem.
Were that the problem, that fact should be in the Activity Log, rejected "because of virus", "because of attachment", "was too big", or some other description.

Re: Suggestions for how to pay for your group #donations

I can't help with any ways to reduce cost/members; there are several that come in mind but it would depend on several group- & member-related attributes, which vary a lot, and without knowing any specifics, I'll abstain.

As for a fundraiser or ongoing donation feature, one thing an owner can do is to setup a "operatingfund" gmail account, setup a Paypal "operatingfund" account, link the two, and use it for group donations.? Don't use your own paypal account for this, it's easier to keep things separate, for both tax and usage purposes, otherwise it requires more work to separate the transaction records, etc.? Leave that account there until the need arises.? Then, I first present a concise email to the group membership detailing why donations are asked for, what the features etc are for Option-A (free) vs Option-B (paid) or even maybe Option-C (disband the group), and let the folks decide what they want to do; the Option-B (paid) presented already gives the operating fund address, and you encourage folks to contribute any amount they can, hopefully that can prod more folks to donate.? If after a while the donations are enough for whatever the goal is, fine, if not, I guess you refund the donations and oh well, downgrade the group (or whatever) unless you are willing to front the difference yourself.? You can then keep or get rid the operating fund accounts, up to you.

Yes, it does take a bit of time to manage this as you become the fund custodian; unfortunately from what I've read, the Stripe integration is a PITA, it seems is more oriented to Enterprise groups; I wonder why Paypal hasn't also been added as an option.?

Cheers,
Christos

Re: Suggestions for how to pay for your group #donations

I should have mentioned also: please provide suggestions for ways to reduce the cost of your group. For example, ways to reduce the number of members when your group is above the 400 or 1,000 member limits where additional per-member pricing starts.
