Re: Purpose of removal for marking email as Spam

I'm been a senior for quite awhile now (Where did the time go), and my first personal computer operated on Windows NT 3.1. Personal computers have been around quite awhile, but Smartphones have not. Forums like Groups.io have been around a long time too, and I think there are more seniors familiar with the digital age than you think. I used to love walking around CompUSA.

Re: Questions about Digest Options

Hi Tamra,

I've not been following this and my reply doesn't address the topic. From your reply "but I read my groups online" I take it that you have only one email address as owner of the group. I've got 3 in my large group and 2 in my small groups as well as multiple owners. I've got memberships under Yahoo, gmail and aol and at least 2 of them set as owner. That way if any one of them gets deleted or becomes corrupted, I still can log in as an owner. It also gives me the ability to test different settings so I can see what members are seeing.

For you own security, create an owner for yourself under a Yahoo email address.

Take care,

Re: Tracking engagement

I agree about the privacy issue, but a simple file counter with no identity revealed would be nice.

Digests being sent to Junk folder by yahoo.au #yahoo

I have a member of my group who reports that digests are always sent to her Junk mail box and is there anything that she can do about it.

I have told her to move them to her In box in the hope that <yahoo.au> will learn.
I suppose that contacting <yahoo.au> about this is a non-starter?
I also suggested that she get a different email address.

Is there anything else I can suggest to her please?

Thanks

My groups are mostly set for Plain Text, so this would add a lot to the footer.? Not so much in HTML since it should show up as a single word - Help.? I think the owner/mod putting a link in the Group Guidelines or Monthly Reminder would be better since group owners are more aware of their group needs.? I put a sticky in each of my groups, as well as the link in the Guidelines.? Guidelines are sent as Special Notice and No Email is disabled, so everyone should see it monthly either online or in email.? Now getting them to actually read it...

That sounds like a good idea to me as well, and no, I don't think it clutters it any more, it would be just another line or link in the footer ensemble.

Link to Help in email footers? #footer

I was thinking that it might be useful to have a link to the Help landing page in the email footers.
Many users never visit their group homepage.
Some people may use Help if alerted to it and it was easy to access.

Downside - clutter in the footer?

Before I suggest this, any feedback? Any suggestions?
I know owners (or members) can put it in their own email footer for Groups.io. I have done so.
But I would think it useful to market the Help a bit more.

No; but downgrading to the Free version then going back to Premium (monthly or yearly) will increase the price to $220, so if you have the $110 rate, let it be!!

As a starting point, you can check the Groups.io Help.?
It is the top banner (blue) on the site.

I have put it in the footer of my group messages as well.
And then ask here to get extra advice like Christos'.

Undelivered message

Hi. I¡¯m a relatively new moderator, so when something just went amiss with my own personal account, it has me worried that it could be happening to other members too.

I had subscribed to digests from the group I manage and was receiving them until this week. Then I stopped receiving them. They were not in my Junk folder. When I looked this up in the Email Delivery History tab, it told me that the most recent successful delivery was

Message
Digest #24
Delivered
Oct 12
Response
2.0.0 09CD9EKN007293 Message accepted for delivery

And then the most recent unsuccessful delivery:

Message
Digest #25
Attempted
Oct 19
Response
: dial tcp4 52.0.124.244:25: i/o timeout

I am guessing the problem is with my email provider, The Well.?

Weirdly, I am still receiving digests from the other that I belong to, including Group Managers Forum.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

Re: Questions about Digest Options

Thank you, Christos, for your response!? I have forwarded the information to my member and hopefully she can look at her spam / junk email and will find the digests.

Each member has their own experience with their computer, their internet provider and their email provider... too many variables...
my apologies for making something more difficult then necessary -but I read my groups online, so I don't have much experience with digests.

Re: Purpose of removal for marking email as Spam

Hi Steve

If you give them the information on what will happen and how to get back on the group on a regular basis I think it will forewarn them and make them understand what happens and how to get over the problem should it occur

I would say there are far more seniors in most groups than youngsters and I think you underestimate what most seniors can understand ;-)

Re: Pre-payment

Sounds like a great idea! Off I went to "Billing". But apart from Switch to Monthly Payment, View/Change Plan and Change Payment Method, there's nothing to suggest what I should do to prepay. Am I overlooking something?

Another question, does a change of credit card count as a change that will increase our yearly payment from 110 to 220? I used my private credit card but should really switch to the organizations credit card - but not if it doubles our payment.?

yeah sure, but *if a group-owner can't be contacted within a certain
period of time* aka when all admins are gone

And as Duane pointed out, you already can.
No, the owner can, and maybe some moderators can. You as ordinary members cannot.

It is incumbent upon every Owner to consider how his group would continue to
function in his absence, and whether he wants it to continue at all.
Of course, but even if there are moderators, there is a possibility that they become unavailable at the same time as the owner

Re: Questions about Digest Options

Tamra,

>>> ... however, the digests have not returned.
?
When one marks a group email as spam (accidentally or not), the spam filter is trained to route those messages to the spam/junk folder from now on. ?More than likely if she goes to her spam/junk folder she'll find the digests in there. ?It's not enough to click on the resubscribe email link, or manually go to the group page and resubscribe; one needs to also go to their spam/junk folder and drag all the group emails back to the inbox (or mark them as not junk), to untrain the spam folder from putting them there from now on.

Questions about Digest Options

My apologies if this is duplicative request, I searched 'digests' and don't have the patience to search and read 723 topics.

I have a member who was receiving the digest and accidentally hit spam.? This unsubscribed her.? She rejoined and is currently in FULL Digest.
I un-moderated her as I know the member, she has successfully posted a message; however, the digests have not returned.

Referencing the recent posts about "BOUNCING".? I found that function under ADMIN and Members and pull down list... she is not on the Bouncing list.

The member has an AOL email address.

Any suggestions?

I have a backup running of the group, but my digests are being delivered.

Thanks -

Tamra - puzzled co-owner

Duane, can you clarify?
As Bruce and I pointed out, you can appoint a moderator with all privileges.? They can't promote themselves to owner (which would allow them to remove an existing owner) and they can't delete the group (which only an owner can do.)? I don't think there are any other limits, but it might be worthwhile for someone to set up a second account on their group (or a test group) this way to do some strenuous testing.? Note that they wouldn't need to actually do anything unless the owner was unavailable.? It would be a good backup for owners that don't want co-owners.? I prefer to have co-owners so everything is covered.
