I would recommend letting the transfer agent take care of the members list for you (as it normally does). It will copy all of the addresses from your Yahoo Group into your Groups.io group, excluding those on bouncing status. Most of your dead-wood addresses will likely be cleared out simply by the fact that bouncing addresses don't get copied. After the transfer some more may end up on Bouncing status at Groups.io because they were dead after all, but not listed as such by Yahoo. So you don't need to invite the members, and they don't need to accept or join anything. As soon as the transfer completes they'll be sent a welcome notice from Groups.io (with opt-out option) and, if you set one up before the transfer, a custom Welcome notice that you create. At that point they are "email-only" members - meaning that they receive group messages and can post by email. If they want to access group Photos, Files or other members-only web content then they'll need to log in to Groups.io - but that's a simple process. They go to the web site and click the link to Log In or Sign Up, the instructions should guide them from there. > If they don't get the invite and aren't using their email address any > longer for any reason, is this just a no-op for me? If you choose to invite some people then yes, bad addresses and ignored invites are pretty much a no-op for you. I think you'll be told by the invite page if the address is actually bad (rejected by the receiving service), and the ignored addresses may hang around on the Invite page for your convenience in sending a re-try later. I haven't used invite very much myself so I've forgotten some of the details. Shal |

Re: Transfering members
We only had about 200 users and moved them all. Based on someone or some app marking the welcome message as spam, we lost some users. The ones who want to be in group came back right away after I sent out message to both groups telling them we moved and would not be sending any more emails or posts to yahoo group.

The one tool missing from Yahoo and would be nice here is a active rating of users based on posts, logins or something done on the group. Would be nice to be able to send out bulk email to users who got to zero and tell them to post or click on this link to stay active. Dain On 1/7/2018 10:02 AM, Janet Smith wrote:

Nancy,
My original Yahoo groups were Camp and another (which in io terms is aYou could make a primary "Camp" group at Groups.io and transfer both Camp and Camp2 into it. It won't matter that some of the same addresses are in both. For the "another" group, you could make an independent group at Groups.io, just as you had at Yahoo, or you could make "another" be a subgroup of Camp. One factor in your decision should be whether the members of "another" are also members of Camp (or ought to be). That's because at Groups.io, every member of a subgroup must also be a member of the primary group. If you transfer the "another" group at Yahoo into a subgroup of Camp at Groups.io, all the email addresses will be copied into both "Camp" and "another" at Groups.io. Again, excluding any that are already there. After the fiasco of the new group trials & errors I have 370, I¡¯mThe good news is that the Groups.io transfer agent copies all the email addresses from your Yahoo Group(s) straight into your Groups.io group. You don't need to invite the members, and they don't need to accept or join anything in order to receive group messages and post by email. To access Files, Photos or other web features they will need to log in to Groups.io, but that's pretty easy - nothing like all the rigamarole they had to go through with Yahoo. The only members you are likely to lose in the process are those whose email address had bouncing status in Yahoo Groups - those don't get copied. And then, even some which weren't marked as bouncing at Yahoo may turn out to be obsolete addresses and will end up bouncing at Groups.io. But you shouldn't lose any "good" email addresses. Shal |
Transfering members
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI have transferred a small Yahoo group over here for testing purposes and we're pretty happy, so I'm setting up a test group for a large Yahoo group.? I would like some input on the user transfer part of things.? ? We have some 1400+ members on the rolls, but I know that several have passed on and families haven't removed their email addresses.? And I have many in my community who are not computer literate, so many will simply rejoin if they change email addresses, so they are on the rolls multiple times.? And we have members who joined years ago never to be heard from again.? So I am thinking this is a good time to clear the slate and had been thinking of requiring that people rejoin on their own or email me and request to be invited.? Either of these options is more work for me, so I am wondering what the downside is to simply inviting all 1400+ to move with us.? ? If they don't get the invite and aren't using their email address any longer for any reason, is this just a no-op for me?? I won't ever see them on the new group.? Their invites will simply go into cyberspace somewhere?? Or if they get the invite and opt not to opt-in, that, too, is a no-op from my perspective?? ? Was wondering what others' experiences have been along these lines.? ? Thanks. ? Janet Smith ? ? |

Yes, just "Export." It basically means "save as." It will just create a pdf file (or text file, if that's what you want).? J On Sun, Jan 7, 2018 at 6:34 AM, Nancy in Renton <sday13@...> wrote: Thanks for your help, I¡¯m off to read more about Export and the Pages app possibilities. |

It is easy. At the top of your Pages document there is a ... menu (dots). Click and choose Export. Choose PDF. Save it somewhere on your iPad and then upload to files as usual.?

My original Yahoo groups were Camp and another (which in io terms is a subgroup) but in Yahoo was a complete other group. I opened a new Yahoo group called Camp2 and started asking original Camp members to join.
Camp2 has never been able to be completely functional. I, personally, can¡¯t add my own photos, start a file, start a poll. As owner that¡¯s not good. Some can, some - about 6 have tried and can¡¯t. ?I can¡¯t change cover or banner photos. Our original owner died, I tried keeping the 1728 members together. After the fiasco of the new group trials & errors I have 370, I¡¯m afraid I¡¯ll lose them all with ¡°another new group¡±. I joined io to get out of trouble. |

Hi all,
This change log for the last three weeks: Feel free to reply to this topic if you'd like to comment on the changes. Or better yet, if you expect a lot of discussion start a new topic (or rejoin an existing one) about a specific change. * Upgraded and rebooted all instances with new kernel patched toThat security bug has been much in the news this week. It isn't often that a security flaw is found that affects web services big and small as well as personal computing devices. My Win 10 machines, home and work, have taken the patch for it. * Removed List-Post headers from emails because of Thunderbird. This is the one I focused on three weeks ago. Since apparently only the Thunderbird email interface did anything with this header, and what it did I think was the wrong thing, I'm just as happy it is gone. However that does leave Thunderbird users without a one-click way to reply off-list in groups that have the Reply-To set for group replies. Instead a copy/paste of the sender's address is required - plus manual fix-up if the sender is from one of the DMARC'd email services, such as Yahoo mail. Comments about these others are also welcome: * SECURITY: Fixed issue where an attacker could create an account Please call out any you find significant. Shal |

I personally think plain-text files are a PITA. Word as well as Pages (I think? I'm almost sure - haven't used it in awhile) will allow you, when saving a file, to "save as" various formats, including pdf. I see no reason not to use a pdf file most or all of the time, simply because they're very readable.?

Nancy,
We were three Yahoo groups, when I have my main group moved can I alsoYes. At step 2 in the transfer process you would simply name the same Groups.io group as the target for the transfer. Or, instead of merging them into a single primary Groups.io group, you can create subgroups to your primary group, and transfer some of your Yahoo groups into subgroups of your primary Groups.io group. What if it¡¯s the same people in all groups, will that mess up the newNo problem. Any email address that's already a member of the Groups.io group will simply be skipped when processing the transfer of an additional Yahoo Group. Can I move everyone from original Yahoo AND new Yahoo AND the subI've kind of lost track of all the Yahoo Groups you're speaking of, but I don't think there's any technical limit to how many you can transfer into the same Groups.io group. There are no Subgroups in Yahoo Groups, so all of them are on an equal footing in terms of being copied into a Groups.io group. What if a handful of us were already in the io group (testing)? As above, that's not a problem. The already subscribed email addresses won't be transferred again - no duplication or other problems will arise. Shal |

Nancy,
I¡¯m on iPad, what app (or something) do I need to have that any memberThe most compatible file format is plain text. In Windows the standard editor for plain text is called Notepad. I'm not sure on an iPad, but possibly your Pages app can either Save As or Export in plain text format. If formatting (bold or italics, font choices, etc.) is important for the legibility of your files then I second J's suggestion of using PDF format. PDF (Portable Document Format) was originated by Adobe, but they've made the specification public and now many apps can export to it. Perhaps your Pages app can do that. In Windows 10 there's also a standard printer driver that will allow any app to print to a PDF file. Again, I don't use iPad, but there's almost certainly a way for you to produce PDF files on iPad also. Shal |

We were three Yahoo groups, when I have my main group moved can I also add (combine) the second (like a sub group) into one io group? ?What if it¡¯s the same people in all groups, will that mess up the new group having a lot of the same members.
Actually I¡¯ve already had members from the original Yahoo group join a new Yahoo group. It isn¡¯t working out. So I¡¯m making an io group that has photos & Files that work for everyone.
