Re: Using gmail on IO
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI¡¯m asking specifically about reject messages.. do you moderate? Are the reject messages being received ?by members in their inboxes ? We did trial runs and found that they often end up in the spam folder. Rachel On Nov 30, 2017, at 11:35 AM, Bob Bellizzi <cdfexec@...> wrote:

Reading this group list may be the ONLY thing they do on the web or in email. Don¡¯t laugh. Some people are just not in need of the medium and only venture forth if there is something like a group list that they want to join. I¡¯m been managing 20-30 lists for almost 20 years. Literacy is certainly getting better in the generation of smartphone users but there are still several decades of age groups above that who are afraid of computers, literally afraid. They don¡¯t join lists or read email willingly. When we wanted a wiki, I looked at every one I could find. GoogleSites was the only one I could find that was completely WYSIWG. There were others where the user only had to put their curser between the

and type. Just the sight of code and many people wouldn¡¯t touch the keyboard. They are afraid of breaking something and/or don¡¯t want to learn something new. And it looks like algebra. Those who use smartphones and computers think everyone does. Under 25, probably. Over 75 probably not. In between it depends on what you do every day. If you work in an office, then most probably. Otherwise, maybe. So it is necessary if you want an inclusive list, that you be able to do everything a subscriber needs for people who wouldn¡¯t be there if you didn¡¯t. The first step is to send them the instructions and notice if they follow through. I follow up until a person has been asking me to do everything. Then I know they just want a servant. You need to add that user to your Yahoo group - not the new groups.io group.? That user identify is used to extract data from your Yahoo group to create the group in groups.io.

On Yahoogroups I always thought this was a privacy issue - the subscription belongs to the *user* not the moderator and so hence changing your email address and/or recovering? passwords were the users responsibility. But I get what you're saying - unfortunately in practice people are not too bright and can't follow directions.? :-(? Kevin Conod kdconod@... |
Transfer instructions
Hi! I'd like to transfer my yahoo group over here, but I seem to be unable to invite "[email protected]" to my group. I got the following message:

Re: Who can generate/see notes in Members membership entry?
So my moderators of any level can post and see notes in the notes area of even higher level moderators and owners?
And if a moderator posts a note in my notes area I can read or delete it? Finally, is there an alert to all moderators and owners when a note is inserted in someone's notes area? If not, this would be a good thing to alert other moderators of something special about a particular person quickly instead of using groupname+owner @ groups.io -- Bob Bellizzi The Corneal Dystrophy Foundation |
Re: Using gmail on IO
We've been on Groups.io for almost 2 years and haven't had a single issue reported by a user of gmail.
My main owner membership is a gmail one. We've seen numerous yahoo and yahoo based services bounce occasionally but that's not new, for years yahoo, att & verion have messed up their security analysis of email fairly? often and sent stuff to their clients marked as spam.? I think both Att & verizon are yahoo based. Att still uses their own bastardized version of someone else's browser. -- Bob Bellizzi The Corneal Dystrophy Foundation |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýWe are just about to flip the switch and move our two large groups over to IO. When testing the system?for rejects we¡¯re finding that the message?rejects?are?going into our SPAM rather than people¡¯s inbox on gmail. ? Has anyone had this issue?? Obviously telling people to make the group email and moderator email a safe sender and adding it to the group will help, but does anyone have other tricks? ? ? Also¡ªdo you use gmail?¡. If someone says ¡°I sent my nanny post and can¡¯t find it¡±¡ªif we search gmail those messages are NESTED together¡ªand it¡¯s hard to find: ? Thanks for your help and suggestions? Rachel? |

Yes, all moderators can both see and create notes. J On Wed, Nov 29, 2017 at 6:18 PM, Bob Bellizzi <cdfexec@...> wrote: I know it says "Notes are only viewable by group moderators." |
Who can generate/see notes in Members membership entry?
I know it says "Notes are only viewable by group moderators."
but does that mean that all moderators and owners can see the notes, or only moderators and owners with specific privileges can see the notes etc, Can all moderators see notes on Owners pages, other moderators' pages, etc. The undefined permutations are too many to list here but there should be some sort of matrix to cover this. -- Bob Bellizzi The Corneal Dystrophy Foundation |

Re: Confirming no way for a moderator to edit a member's membership
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýAriel, ?First unlike Yahoo at groups.io you have one account per e-mail address. This means that the address where the mails arrive is the address used to sign into the account. This makes it easier for members to manage things. There is no seldom used Yahoo e-mail address that they need to remember in order to log in. If they forget the password its easy to reset it. It also means that it doesn¡¯t make sense for an administrator to change e-mail addresses of subscribed users. All you can do is delete the old one address and send a new invitation to the group, unless you have a paid subscription, in which case you can do a direct add.. ? Secondly the transfer process won¡¯t transfer any bouncing e-mail addresses. I think it sends you a list of those it didn¡¯t transfer, so you need to check in Yahoo membership management who is bouncing. In the UK we have had a lot of bouncing mail on our lists because two mobile networks merged and discontinued many e-mail domains in the process¡ ? Dave Wade ? Re: Confirming no way for a moderator to edit a member's membership
Ariel, you can edit a member's delivery options, but you can't change their email address.
That is fairly easy for a member to do. And a member can add an email alias so that a person can send from a couple of email addresses. You can also add / change a member's display name.? In the member list, there is a field - Notes - viewable only by group moderators.?You can also download the membership list. I would think that many, if not most, members will want to keep the email address they are already using. That's what happened with our travel group. And we also disabled "no email". The least the members can have with my groups is Special Notices Only. I think that Groups.io works like a charm! I belong to several small groups as well as one larger one.? Frances |
Confirming no way for a moderator to edit a member's membership
Ariel Ambruster
Hi folks, As a new moderator in an old Yahoo Group, I mistakenly assumed I could edit people's membership, and many asked me to do so, because they'd forgotten their Yahoo log-ins, or which email they used, or were not very computer savvy. Now I am looking at moving the group to Groups.io, having still not resolved those membership issues. Can someone confirm what seems to be the case: should I transfer all members, I would have no way to edit their membership. I would have to ask those people to go in to Groups.io and change their emails themselves. Or, possibly, for some non-responsive people who thought I already changed their email address, I'd have to identify them from lack of response and invite them via the new preferred email they gave me. Is that correct? It would be so darn easy if we moderators could just edit a little bit here and there in someone's membership.... :) Another membership question: In an ideal world, we'd be able to add a column in our member list (or directory I guess) for additional info. I am assuming that is not possible, so instead I would import an Excel file with static info that would need to be updated/replaced regularly, that would list each member name, email, and that piece of info (their neighborhood). Can folks confirm that that would need to be my workaround (basic membership)? Thanks so much!! Ariel |

One thing I've noticed is that the subject lines are really long and repetitive. The Facebook page 'nickname' is included with the full Facebook name and that makes it kind of long. They look something like this: "[GroupName] Facebook Nickname - FULL FACEBOOK PAGE TITLE - shared XXXXXXXX's post #facebook" ? Is this a Facebook thing or is this something that can be shortened? To add a line to the database just click on the "+Add Row" button at the bottom of the page. To edit an existing record click the checkbox at the left side of the line and then click on "View/Edit Row" at the bottom. See jpg attached.
