Re: "CHANGE: We are no longer accepting new Yahoo Group transfer requests"?
Alex, Maybe someone can tell me it ain¡¯t so? You have missed the boat, as far as the Easy Yahoo Groups Transfer is concerned. There are still rowboats available, in the form of ($25) to download to your computer a copy of your group's Members, Messages, Files, Photos, and Links. But not Databases or Calendar Entries, those you must get manually if you want them. It also doesn't seem to get the metadata (Description, Comments) about Files and Photos. what happened??? You've been living under a rock? Well, about October 14th Yahoo put a banner up at the top of every Yahoo Group's page announcing the removal of all user content from the web pages, and the conversion of Yahoo Groups into a purely email list service. For the latest news see the and a recent "" email. I suppose I could just create a new identical group of the same ?members at groups.io....and ?manually add all my old members, or have them join. Right?? That's an option. Also see Moving to Groups.io. Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |

Since there were at least ten million groups at Yahoo, of which Mark has said about 3000 moved here recently, that leaves 9,997,000 more who are about to get a pre-Christmas surprise. Alex, as others have said, there are several tools you can use (but only up until Saturday) to retrieve and store your members and messages, in the hope that you can get them onto groups.io at some point. -- Bill |

Re: Members that are Not Confirmed
Still totally confused.
I sent the message you recommended to the few that had the NC note. No one has ever mentioned having to confirm. I verified that their address was valid from another source that is verifiable. No one has ever sent a message to me saying they do not get messages. Confused -- Richard |

Re: Members that are Not Confirmed
For background, see?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Status-Badges-in-the-Members-List
You can go to the member's account in Admin, Members. Click on the member's name or email address. Scroll down and ask Groups.io to send a confirmation email to prompt the person to reply. - Click send confirmation email. Frances -- Moving to Groups.io (without easy transfer)

Members that are Not Confirmed
I'm new at this group owner/moderator business. I recently became the owner of two small groups here on groups.io because no one else wanted the task of transferring them from yahoo, and I didn't want the information to be lost. This was done manually using "free" groups that I created. As the new members requested membership, I manually approved them, but a few are now showing "NC" (not confirmed) on the members list. What, exactly, does that mean and what should I do, if anything, to correct this? At the moment, I am leaving these few members on a moderated status.
Thank you for any advice, Kenny Williams, group owner Heathkit-HW16 AceRC |
Re: Dreaded REPLY TO request for understanding
MTA (mail transfer agent) is the technical name for an email program, for example, Eudora or Thunderbird. Outlook is an MTA but some people would argue that it doesn't meet the definition of a "good MTA" as mentioned by J Erskine, primarily because of its divergence from standards. The web-based services (AOL. Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail/Live/Outlook) also qualify as MTAs.
One piece of the discussion here revolves around the fact that the user who is using his MTA may have up to four options:
Now suppose the user wants to reply to the entire group. He may select his customary option (4), the MTA's Reply All. Since there are no Cc:s in a Yahoo group message, it has exactly the same function as option (3) and replies to the entire group. This time it's what the user desired--but again with quoted text. I never even attempted to train the users of our Yahoo group. I'm not sure it would have worked. Larry |

Re: Private (and not) response breaks "via" showing "via address=domain.xx@[]"
Thank you for the reply Bruce. I remember the introduction of DMARC and the accompanying gnashing of teeth. However I'm talking about both a "direct"/peer/"Private" message (sent by a user logged in to the GIO system, and a similar one sent in the same however via a list. In neither case was the address presented, fully, in that munged/DMARC fashion we love. It was absent parts and square brackets were showing. Strange in of itself and strange to appear in both cases. Cheers, John

Postings delay?
I'm owner of a group. This morning, I received a 'Membership approval needed' message. When I went to approve it, it had already been approved by a moderator. An hour later, I still haven't received a 'New Member joined your group' message. Nothing has changed since I received both messages yesterday about a different member. And I have received other posts to the group, so I definitely am still receiving 'All posts as individual emails.' Any ideas? It ain't earth-shattering, but it has me curious.
