There is a checkbox of what you want transferred. See the screenshot on this page.
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Transfer-from-Yahoo-Groups

Just be sure to check off in Group Admin, Settings what you want to happen with old attachments if you are over storage.
Remember that messages don't count towards storage.

Just get going or you might miss the boat!

That wiki page (above) also says:

Assess Group Storage Needs
There are limits to how much storage your group is allowed under the Basic (free) plan...see /static/pricing for details. Transfers by the transfer agent require at least Premium account for a full year. With that account level you are not allowed to have more than 10 GB of storage in use for Files and Photos.
?
If your Yahoo group contains more than 10 GB of files and photos, the transfer agent will stop the transfer at that point and send you an email asking what you want to do. This can result in delays and confusion, especially if the inquiry lands in your spam folder. It's usually better to take measures to mitigate this ahead of time; for example, you can set up your group to downscale oversize images, and this can be used to reduce your storage needs during the transfer itself. Limiting images to -- say -- 1024 pixels in the long dimension can significantly reduce your storage footprint while being more than adequate for viewing online.

Frances-

This is really a minor issue but with the date issue and suspense . . .

I am currently logged in to both Yahoo page and also the groups.io page with the "Start Group Transfer Process" green button.

Dare I close the Groups.io page and go on with my chores? I would really hate to close it at step 4 and screw up the process.

I'm more than a bit paranoid about the transfer given the 2 weeks we spent getting the Yahoo group to accept me as a member and then owner.

If by that you mean is there a "one click" solution then no, there isn't.

They have to be looked at and (after deciding whether to delete or keep) deleted one by one. Some thought is necessary; the attachments can be deleted but this leaves an orphaned message (or lots of them!) languishing in the archives. More often than not it is likely to be better to go to the parent message and delete both it and its attached photo in one go. (Thinks; can a message be both a parent and an orphan at the same time; discuss)

There are almost certain to be some that are worth keeping, but there is no means of moving them to another location in the Photos section other than by downloading and then uploading again, which strips them of their ownership although this can be restored; be warned - it's time consuming if done at scale.

If you are running out of storage have you got the Out of Space setting set to Delete Old Attachments?

Mark -- See Admin>Settings>Message Formatting>Attachments. This allows you to handle emails containing attachments in any of the following ways:

-- Allow attachments and forward them
-- Strip them before sending
-- Block (reject) the incoming email, or
-- Put emails containing an attachment on moderation

However, there is no function that will allow you to forward the attachment via email without also storing it in the message archive. This might be a good suggestion for.

Attachments may be deleted according to the instructions found at?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Deleting%20attachments,%20files%20and%20photos. See?/g/GroupManagersForum/message/25046 for further guidance. It is tedious.

Don -- I don't know a direct way to do this, but you can subscribe to the groups.io calendar using your favorite calendaring software and use the print function in that.

At the bottom of your groups.io calendar is a Subscribe to Calendar button. Click that and a dialog will pop up with a URL that can be used to subscribe your local calendar to your groups.io calendar (the URL ends in feed.ics).?An?ICS file?is a?calendar file?saved in a universal?calendar?format used by several desktop and web?calendaring?programs, including Microsoft Outlook, Google?Calendar, and Apple?Calendar.

Once you complete this subscription and the calendar entries have synced (can take a few hours) you can then print your calendar using the external app. The two calendars will continue to sync at regular intervals and you don't have to do it every time.

Hope this helps,

Is there a process for group managers to eliminate attachments from archived e-mails?

print calendar option needed #calendar

Lets try this again. My last post never got posted for some reason in the Groups.io Beta Group so reposting it here.

First, I love Groups.io! Compared to Yahoo it is a breath of fresh air. I only have one thing I can think of that is desperately needed by our group and that is a print function from the calendar. I tried the print function in the browser (both Chrome and Firefox) but both put out ugly and essentially unusable handouts. We use groups.io for our community of some 150 or so residents but several do not have computers or just prefer to have a hard copy of the calendar. Because Yahoo was so unpredictable in its behavior, especially in regards to the calendar, we created a Google calendar to be our "official" calendar.? Unfortunately this requires a Google account to access as we want to keep the calendar private. We could only get about 1/3 of our community to sign up for it so it was not that successful either. Now with a good and functioning Groups.io calendar it would be great if we could just use this calendar as our official calendar and get off Google. BUT we need to be able to print a month on a single sheet of paper to hand out to those who can't get online or prefer the hard copy. I hope this can be done soon as we really need this functionality.

Is the 12-1 deadline a hard deadline or will they attempt to transfer until the 12-14 date??
The new deadline of 12/5 is a hard deadline for giving the go-ahead. I'm sure Mark will do everything in his power to complete the transfers of those who meet that deadline.

I edit a club newsletter, and have?never?extended a deadline. I don't want anyone contacting me offline, asking what my "real" deadline is, when I already gave it to them. Folks here are fortunate that Mark seems to feel differently about this.

My first two were transferred quite quickly and I expect this one to be just as easy, but I have no idea how long the queue is at this point.? Getting concerned!
Do not procrastinate...get the agent invited and upgraded and give the go-ahead ASAP. You'll still be at the mercy of Yahoo server crashes or whatever but there's nothing any of us (including Mark) can do about that.

To be totally clear:

This means you have to GIVE THE GO-AHEAD for your transfer (complete Step 5) by this deadline. Simply initiating a transfer, or paying for Premium Yearly, or completing any of those other preliminary steps will not ensure you a spot in the transfer queue.

Do not procrastinate...get started on this NOW, so the delays involved in inviting the transfer agent and making it a Moderator do not come into play.

Those who have paid but are not able to execute an Easy Group Transfer will issued a refund upon request. Just email Mark at [email protected]?and he will refund your money and delete your group.

Re: Email addresses with/without dots

Here's my advice for a quick solution.

The facts are that Number 4 in the Activity created the problem; it doesn't matter how it happened but it did. Also, her email client is clearly using "n.k.mara.3250@" as the return address.

So, the simple solution is to remove "N.K.Mara3250@" from the membership. Then, either Direct Add (if this is a premium group) OR have the subscriber resend their request to [email protected]?to properly join.

Also, technically, the other "N.K.Mara3250@"?is their problem, not yours. Even so, if that separate account exists and if they want it gone, they will have to first be sure they are?logoed out and then login with that exact address to remove that account.

Good luck,
Jim

Here's a screenshot of hers:

Next I discovered the Activity History under her Membership which proved interesting. Up until I have been looking only at the Activity tab sitting below the Admin section.?
Her Membership Activity History is quite telling. No where is there any indication of the the dotted lower case email (n.k.mara.3250@...,)

There are only three entires on "Mara's" Activity History. All of them contain only the non dotted email address (N.K.Mara3250@...)

So to me this it means she has one GIO account. It is under the non dotted email address.
It would appear the system didn't pick up a discrepancy.
It would appear that she can resolve things by adding the dotted email address as an alias.?

If you can confirm this, I will inform her she needs to set up an alias. I will need to search the wiki to refresh myself on that and send her the link.?

I know how busy Support is so unless it's of benefit to them, I see no need to elevate it. Should I perhaps make a Bug Report so Mark is aware of this behavior?

Greatly appreciate the time you have invested in assisting me,?

Re: Can a Message Be Sent from the Owner Address without Identifying the Owner Who Is Posting? #question #messages

Hi, Shal,
You can change your Display Name to something like "Moderation team".
Yes. But even in this case I could be identified I believe.
If you don't want that appearing on your regular postings, use a spare
email address for the purpose: promote it to mod and set its Display
Name to a generic team name.
We did this of course a while ago. Each moderator has a special owner address now. But in spite of this it does not make much sense to have an owners address option in groups.io which doesn?t work correctly, especially since it looks very convenient when there is a setting that gives you the choice between the personal and the owner?s address. It is even somewhat misleading.
Granted this is a bit inconvenient due to
the need to have a separate login for this alternate address.
Yes, it is, since you have to log out and then log back in again, then log out and in again to go about the usual business:-)

Yes, I am aware of that. I just didn?t want to bother Mark with additonal trivia as long as he is occupied with transfers.

Re: Email addresses with/without dots

Sandi,

Here is the email the owner received on Nov 3. This shows the email
address characters inside the body of the email were different from
those generated by the webmail captured email address in the Activity
Log on Nov 3. Any ideas on what could have triggered the character
change?
Possibly the notification captured the spelling she entered when accessing the web site to request membership, and the activity log captured the email address that actually responded to the confirmation request that Groups.io sent to her.

The mechanism is supposed to notice a discrepancy like this and automatically make the typed spelling the account (and subscribed) address, and set the sending spelling into that account's Email Alias. That's supposed to prevent subsequent inability to post due to the different spelling.

Do you think I need to elevate this to Support?
Maybe.

I can't discern whether the mechanism failed or whether she did something unusual. Worse, I can't convince myself that we can decide whether she has now one account or two (one under each spelling).

The only hard part about telling her to start over at this point is that not only must you or she remove her subscription(s) from your group, but she would need to delete (both of) her Groups.io account(s) in order to get a truly fresh start.

Re: Email addresses with/without dots

Sandi,

So here's my problem. The user did everything correctly. What types of
things could have transpired allowing the Owner to end up approving an
email address that never requested to join?
Your activity 4 is impossible as stated: the owner could not have changed the spelling of mara's address while approving it.

So it would seem that there must have been another application under the non-dot spelling which your owner actually approved.

Or, perhaps mara accessed her account to change her email address after applying and before the owner approved it.

And what is the correction?
If the user is receiving group messages then there's no need to correct her subscribed email address. On her page in the Members list check the Email Delivery History tab to be sure this is true.

Instead, assuming her subscription is still using the non-dotted spelling, mara can go into her account and add the dotted spelling as an Email Alias. This will allow posts under either the dotted or non-dotted spelling to post as "her".

If the Email Delivery History tab shows that this spelling of her address is "bouncing" group messages then go ahead and delete this membership. Send a fresh invitation to the other spelling.

And once she joins under the correct email, do I tell her to contact
support to merge them? Or should I remove that email and then we all
ignore it?
Ignoring for the moment her membership(s) in your group, there's a question as to whether she has one Groups.io account or two at this point. If she changed her email address from one spelling to the other then she would still have only the one account. In which case no merge would be required.

If she managed somehow to have two accounts at Groups.io, even though they are two spellings of the same email inbox, then yes she'd want to either merge one into the other or simply delete the account she doesn't wish to use.

I am guessing she entered?N.K.Mara3250@... into the GIO website?and GIO generated an email that Gmail accepted because it doesn't differentiate dots or no dots. Then when she clicked on the link confirming her email address as valid, the GIO system captured her email address from Gmail.

I'm just not understanding how the email address in the activity log wasn't the one approved since that is what GIO captured.?
